WINNIPEG ARENA!
I just found a similar image on Google! |
Yes, it is Winnipeg Arena.
|
This is from my phone. Sorry for the crappy resolution.
http://www.milnoc.com/images/SSPX0013-AX1.jpg A historical event occurred near here. |
Fisgard Lighthouse?
|
Nope! Not Fisgard Lighthouse.
|
Pointe-au-Pere's lighthouse, Rimouski Quebec?
|
That's it! The Pointe-au-Père lighthouse, in the area where the Empress of Ireland ocean liner sank, having been hit under the water line by the Norwegian collier, the Storstad. The ship quickly filled with water and sank within 14 minutes. 1012 people lost their lives on the morning of May 29, 1914; there were only 465 survivors.
The area has been converted into a local museum where the ship's tragic history is preserved. More info on the tragedy can be found on-line on Wikipedia at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empress_of_ireland . Here's the complete shot of the lighthouse. http://www.milnoc.com/images/SSPX0013-DCFull.jpg |

Capilano Suspension Bridge in Vancouver?
|
The Lynn Canyon Park suspension bridge?
|
I'd go with Lynn Canyon...
|
yes, game on Milnoc. New talent with a penchant for Canadian sites! I thought I would throw a curve with the lesser known Lynn Canyon... (It's also free compared to Capilano).
|
All right. Let me throw a curve ball here. Not only must you answer the next one correctly, you must also say WHY you think your answer is correct! It's something very specific!

Is this at Casino Rama in Ontario, where the woman just won a jackpot of nearly $9 million?
|
Nope!
BTW, that was just a standard $625 jackpot win. |
Niagra Casino - becuase they have Double Diamond machines from IGT?
|
Cognawaga (sp?) because of the French on the machine? (I don't know, I don't frequent casinos).
|
Actually I think that the hint has to do with the trees in the reflection of the slot machine glass. That is my guess but that has not yet helped e find out where it is.
|
The reflection in the glass is not the WHY. That's just a fluke. But you're getting close! Keep looking!
|
OK I will try again.
Niagra Casino becuase the double diamonds on the slot machine are surrounded by the Niagra Casino green oval from their logo. |
You people were getting warmer. Now you're getting colder!
Let me help you with another of my slot machine wins taken from a different casino. http://www.milnoc.com/images/SSPX0014.jpg Ignore the symbols and the denomination. Look at everything else, and compare it with the original picture. There's a subtle yet significant difference which will help you narrow down the location of the first image. |
Casino de Montreal becuase French is listed first?
(actually that does not meet the language requirements - the English must be half the size or less than the French) |
THAT'S IT! The WHY is that the French language is listed first! And you're right, it's the Montreal Casino. As for not meeting the language requirements, you're right about that too. But since the Casino is run by the provincial government... :)
The other picture is from the Rideau Carleton Raceway in Ottawa. |
I figured it might have something to do the the French... I just don't know where the Casinos are and that big jackpot was in the news.
|
OK, this may be hard from this specific vantage point.
http://img329.imageshack.us/img329/3355/example5fs0.jpg The hint is that the rest of the building does not look like this. This section (or facade) has been preserved from a 9th century building. Extra points for the name of the 19th century building as well. |
Is this an arena now?
|
Yes it is an arena now.
|
I'm still looking for landmarks that'll help identify the city...
|
i get this 'Ontario' feel looking at the pic. white licence plates.... older style archecture on the facade.
|
Possible about it being Ontario. The license plate of the green car is definitely white, and using the resolution enhancement in my paint program reveals a hint of red in the plate, indicating red lettering. The street board on the right appears to say "Halloween" on the second line. The rest of the board appears unreadable. So we MIGHT have narrowed it down to Ontario, assuming the Ontario car isn't from outside the arena's province.
Just a thought. What if it was a curling rink and not a hockey rink? Have any curling rinks ever been built to that size? |
John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario.
The building you are seeing is The Talbot Inn |
Charlatan is right.
Nice one. Here is another view: http://www.infrastructure.gc.ca/mc-c...n-Labatt_b.jpg |
OK... this could be hard for some.
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/StevenMurphy001/TFP/photo?authkey=rg-0rAySR3s#5183735158154317026"><img src="http://lh3.google.co.uk/StevenMurphy001/R_BTqWd9zOI/AAAAAAAAClY/4t_cObwFFao/s800/2371539203_6d4bae48f5_o.jpg" /></a> |
Holy crap Charlatan! Thats a doozy!
|
hard on the eyes when you're buzzed that's for sure.
|
whoa.........no doubt jay.
|
That's the Time Tunnel!
Ha, well it sure looks like it doesn't it? Could it be in the Ontario Science Centre? |
Looks more like the entrance to a "swinging seventies" style club or thrift shop...
[Insert Austin Powers catchphrase here] |
The Edge nightclub?
|
None of the above. I will post a clue later, if nobody gets close.
