I guess the book store that Charlatan was referring to was Bakka, on the north side of Queen. It's gone now, moved down further to West Queen West, and is called Bakka Phoenix.

The building beside where Bakka was used to be the exterior that was the Lawyer's office in that wonderful '80's CBC offering of Street Legal, which for some reason is now broadcast on Bravo at around 7 AM weekdays.

Since Charl is gone, I'll find a pic and post....

Well done! Actually the book store I was refering to is Pages. One of the best book stores in Toronto.

Anyway... carry on.

Milnoc 04-16-2008 08:17 AM

Let's zoom out a bit...

Leto 04-16-2008 11:36 AM

Ha! I knew it was a bar. Now to investigate more. it must be a 'destination ' of some sort, but the downspout looks fairly run-down. So not a real 'touristy' place.

But also the siding is weathered wood. hmmmmm

Leto, you're going to laugh when you discover what it really is! :)

Charlatan 04-16-2008 05:48 PM

Looks like a hotel's breakfast bar... or some sort of coffee shop.

blahblah454 04-16-2008 06:36 PM

Are all those lights from the reflection, or are they in the store?

Good question! :)

You're all still very cold. Let's try zooming out some more...

So he is not drinking a Guiness, he is drinking a specialty coffee.

Leto 04-17-2008 08:13 AM

ya... what I was thinking too. But that's an awfully big coffee. I see a street sign in the reflection, as well as parked cars. there's also a second floor.

Milnoc 04-17-2008 09:27 AM

Here's the full picture.

http://www.milnoc.com/images/PC270107-4.JPG

And if no one can guess it this time, I'll add the left and right shots.

silent_jay 04-17-2008 11:09 AM

I reckon it's at the waterfront as I can see boats in the reflection, at least I think they're boats, time to do some more looking around.

Leto 04-17-2008 12:14 PM

Blue Parrot Coffee shop on Granville Island, Vancouver.

silent_jay 04-17-2008 12:20 PM

I think we have a winner, nice one Leto.

Leto 04-17-2008 12:24 PM

Score! Well, it was part your observations that got it too... Okay. I've got one. Hang on.

Ok, back with a poser:

Milnoc 04-17-2008 05:28 PM

Confirmed! Leto got it! I was hoping someone would at least recognize the window trim, and see the water in the reflection of the windows.

As for Leto's picture, it reminds me of the movie "The Sweet Hereafter", but without the snow.

silent_jay 04-17-2008 05:31 PM

It seems to have an Alberta look to it, even though I've never been to Alberta, so I don't know why Alberta popped into my head.

Leto 04-17-2008 07:07 PM

Wasn't that movie in Nova Scotia? Well, this picture isn't an eastern location, nor is it in Alberta.

Milnoc 04-17-2008 07:57 PM

Actually, the B.C./Alberta border cuts through the Rocky Mountains. So it is possible to have such scenery in Alberta, especially west of Rocky Mountain House.

The sign in the back appears to read "K Life". The closest reference I could find was a Christian radio station in California.

Leto 04-18-2008 02:50 AM

the picture is in keeping with the recently introduced 'cafe' theme. It is possible to have such scenery in Alberta, but for this one you would have to go further west. I would most likely stop here, if I was on my way to get some peaches.

Charlatan 04-18-2008 08:11 AM

Moving to the country
Gonna eat me a lot of peaches...

blahblah454 04-18-2008 01:17 PM

That looks like it could be in BC near the Kamloops area... close?

silent_jay 04-18-2008 01:39 PM

Penticton has a peach festival, but I think Penticton is a bigger than that.

Leto 04-19-2008 04:02 AM

BC certainly does have that kind of terrain... and Penticton does have peaches... This cafe would be as the crow drives if you're coming from Vancouver.

splck 04-20-2008 10:37 PM

Looks like Keremeos to me.

Charlatan 04-20-2008 11:40 PM

I'd say splck has it... And now I get the "crow flies" hint that Leto gave...

Quote:

Breakfast is found on 7th Avenue, in a collection of cafés conveniently located within an easy stone’s throw from each other. The most popular is the “K” Café whither came Lynn Redgrave to be filmed in Touched in 1998.
http://www.crowsnest-highway.ca/imag...emeosKCafe.jpgFrom downtown Keremeos, the Highway passes the firewall and its 1944 Ford fire truck displayed outside in a wired glass cage, climbs the 8% grade of the “town hill” onto the Similkameen valley’s bench and arrives at a Tee intersection which unravels the 3A from the No. 3, sending each by its own route over the Okanagan Range and into the Heart of Vacationland, B.C., the Okanagan Valley.
Interestingly, I used to sell the film Touched...

Leto 04-21-2008 07:08 AM

Game on splck, it is the K cafe in Keremeos. I really love this part of the interior. Drove the crows nest many times in my tree planting days too.

splck 04-21-2008 11:00 AM

Keremeos = peaches and pumpkins.
Next...

Leto 04-21-2008 07:51 PM

what the heck kind of bridge is that???

Charlatan 04-21-2008 10:49 PM

It look like one that is no longer in use... I'd say the old road runs from the front right into the "tunnel". What purpose it serves... not sure.

Maybe it isn't that at all. Maybe it's a garage.

Leto 04-22-2008 02:56 AM

Could be... maybe a mine entrance?

Milnoc 04-22-2008 03:07 AM

There's a road sign on the side of the main road, but the image is too low-res to read it.

Leto 04-22-2008 05:16 AM

yeah, I saw that. what do you think of the terrain? dry BC or Alta interior-ish? Or northern Boreal-ish? If it's a mine entrance I was thinking Yukon...

splck 04-22-2008 08:58 AM

Here's another view.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v11/splck/where10.jpg

Milnoc 04-22-2008 02:02 PM

Found it! It's the old Greenwood road tunnel! http://www.greenwoodcity.com/tunnelinfo.html
Quote:

The 1913 Road Tunnel was underneath the CPR trestle. It was used until 1964 when a new double tunnel replaced it. This one was buried until 1992 when the double tunnel was demolished and this tunnel was once again uncovered.

Leto 04-22-2008 06:59 PM

amazing. How the heck did you find it?

Milnoc 04-22-2008 07:39 PM

The tunnel's year is partially visible in the second picture. I google image searched for "1913 tunnel", and found it in the third image.

This was a weird one. The tunnel looks like it was unearthed from the ground, which turned out to be true! :)

It's probably safe to assume I found it at this point. So let's move on to the next entry.

http://www.milnoc.com/images/SSPX0074.jpg

splck 04-22-2008 10:02 PM

Good work Milnoc..
I drove through that tunnel for years. I'm glad they didn't bust it up when the took out the Kettle Valley Railroad.
As for the next picture...It looks like something from Toronto of Montreal, so on that note, see you guys in a few months.

Cheers!

Charlatan 04-23-2008 12:11 AM

Looks like a condo...

Milnoc 04-23-2008 03:40 AM

As a hint, the building has some fascinating movie history associated with it.
