Leto 10-20-2008 07:14 PM

so, is it Ben's?

james t kirk 10-20-2008 07:17 PM

Whoops, sorry.

No, it is not Ben's.

As I said, it is THEE most famous Deli in Montreal, nay, Canada.

Leto 10-21-2008 05:46 AM

hmmm... I would have thought that was a Druxy's somewhere in Toronto... :)

Milnoc 10-21-2008 06:36 AM

Kirk, when was the picture taken? The place is empty! I've never seen it like that before! :)

I cropped it from the net.

I've been there a few times. The first time I went there, a Quebecois amigo of mine sent me there. I remember thinking, "this is what he's been yapping about. The place looks right out 1945"

Well, who knew, it was right out of 45.

When I was there it was around 2 or 3 p.m. and there was no lineup outside.

Every other time, though, it was lined up out the door.

Milnoc 10-21-2008 06:10 PM

Unfortunately, I don't like smoked meat. So even if I've passed in front of the place a few times, I've never eaten there.

And no, I'm not a true Montrealer. I'm from Ottawa. :)

Leto 10-22-2008 07:18 AM

ok, so the only other one that seems to be famous is Schwartz's. Is this Scwhartz's Deli or the Charcuterie Hebraique de Montréal located at 3895 Saint-Laurent?

james t kirk 10-22-2008 06:38 PM

Oui have a wiener, er winner.

Shwartz's it is. Aka, the Hebrew Deli (it's original name)

And I love smoked meat....

Leto 10-23-2008 05:40 AM

where is this?

james t kirk 10-23-2008 03:26 PM

Hamilton.

HMCS Haida.

Leto 10-24-2008 03:28 AM

not Hamilton. Is that where the Haida got moved to? This baby is floating on a river.

Leto 10-28-2008 02:15 AM

go east.....

Lucifer 10-28-2008 04:28 AM

Bridgewater, Nova Scotia

Leto 10-28-2008 04:53 AM

whoa... Game ON Lucifer.

But I guess you are in the 'boat' business......

Lucifer 10-28-2008 05:43 AM

I am, but actually I just drove past it on Saturday on my way to Lunenburg.

Lucifer 11-02-2008 09:30 AM

need a hint, or am I just a thread-killer?

Leto 11-03-2008 09:55 AM

no... you're not a thread killer, it's just not that this is burried in Nonsense, it doesn't get the exposure it so rightfully deserves!

(a hint would sure help tho)

This wouldn't be somewhere Magnetic Hill, in New Brunswick would it?

Lucifer 11-03-2008 10:24 AM

It isn't, but it is somewhere between you and there.

perhaps the large version of the pic will help

http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...100_3489-1.jpg

Leto 11-05-2008 07:23 AM

I would guess that this is very close to the St Lawrence... obivously in Quebec.

Is it famous for something?

Lucifer 11-05-2008 07:30 AM

It isn't in itself, but it is on the grounds of somewhere famous.

Leto 11-10-2008 07:07 AM

Is it on Mont Royal?

Lucifer 11-10-2008 11:24 AM

no, much further east, past QC

Leto 11-10-2008 11:36 AM

Okay.. so, it's in quebec, it's a famous location, and it is east of QC. Very few places that would be well known are left. Places like Perce?

Lucifer 11-10-2008 03:54 PM

too far east. Okay, big hint: It's behind Ile d'Orleans.

Leto 11-12-2008 05:59 AM

I'm ashamed to say that I had to goole ile d'orleans. for some reason I thought it was near Ottawa, even though I've driven past at least four times. So.. If this is behind that place, looking at the map I would put the butt side of ile d'orelans, or the behind part, the south shore, directly south of the island. Is this picture somehwhere in St Michel de Bellechasse? I guess this because it sounds kind of churchy, and there's a church in your pic.

Lucifer 11-12-2008 06:40 AM

Oh, see when I meant behind Ile d'Orleans, I meant the north shore. I pass Ile d'Orleans all the time, but I'm in the seaway, so naturally (to me) behind means the north shore. You are on the right track with the churches.....

Leto 11-18-2008 08:26 AM

How about Mont Saint Anne or st joachim de montmorency?

Lucifer 11-18-2008 09:26 AM

ummm, no, she isn't on a mountain

Leto 11-18-2008 10:24 AM

ahhhh... a hint... "she" isn't on a mountain. so there must be a reference to some kind of female saint... of to search google again.

Lucifer 11-18-2008 01:46 PM

so close, and yet so far...

Leto 12-08-2008 01:31 PM

holy smokes, I'm at a loss... my googling skills are definitely sub par for this one... Hint?

Okay, without actually giving the answer, when I said "she isn't on a mountain", what I meant was, you should google "Mont SAINT ANNE" without the Mont!

Leto 01-07-2009 09:47 AM

ok... the obvious guess would be Ste Anne de Beaupre, althought I can't find the scenery that youv'e posted. Is this close?

In the interest of breathing some life into this thread, I'll post something while waiting your answer.

You are indeed correct, the location is Ste. Anne de Beaupre. The place in the photo is across the square from the cathedral and is called The Basilica Inn. More information can be found here

Leto 01-07-2009 12:32 PM
