I wonder in what context this would make sense? (previous post)

How about: very cute young girl, but very self-effacing and/or with low self-esteem, feels that mother nature has not done right by her. ?

Maybe she needs a good man ...or boy in her case ;)

Or in that case, how about: her boyfriend let her down and now she's dissapointed that she let her raging hormones get the best of her and compromise her initial good instincts. ?

Dear Mother Nature,
if you'll start lying to me,
I'll drop the pretense.

My longest nose is enough that I can smell teen spirit when I see it. Nevermind.

Ourcrazymodern? 06-25-2010 07:16 AM

Bless the sense of smell.
Even unaware, it feels,
& can't be ignored.

BadNick 06-25-2010 11:14 AM

It seems our noses are more directly connected to our brains than is visible on our faces. Otherwise, evolution may have dispensed with us long ago ..or even longest ago.

ring 06-25-2010 11:23 AM

Jacobson's Organ.

I had a pic of one....somewhere.

I'll try to ferret it out.

Jetée 06-25-2010 11:33 AM

"And, of course, that is what all of this is - all of this: the one song, ever changing, ever reincarnated, that speaks somehow from and to and for that which is ineffable within us and without us, that is both prayer and deliverance, folly and wisdom, that inspires us to dance or smile or simply to go on, senselessly, incomprehensibly, beatifically, in the face of mortality and the truth that our lives are more ill-writ, ill-rhymed and fleeting than any song, except perhaps those songs - that song, endlesly reincarnated - born of that truth, be it the moon and June of that truth, or the wordless blue moan, or the rotgut or the elegant poetry of it. That nameless black-hulled ship of Ulysses, that long black train, that Terraplane, that mystery train, that Rocket '88', that Buick 6 - same journey, same miracle, same end and endlessness."
Nick Tosches, 'Where Dead Voices Gather'

comes forth camaraderie;
better than conflict.

BadNick 06-25-2010 12:37 PM

Thanks, Jet.

I can especially personally relate to the "born...June" and "rotgut poetry" parts. In the meantime, I'm just trying to get in as many miles as I can before the end of the road, and enjoy the trip as much as I can. Fleeting it is.

Jetée 06-25-2010 03:00 PM

You are trying to trip me up, I believe, with the tie-ins; what comes after Pisces? (The Ram; what is it called - Libra?) I think that is what you are (fiddlesticks, that is your "join date").

Well, among my many other diversions today (none of them being audible, tho, save for Pac-Man's chomping) I had a good ten minutes reviewing this page:

http://www.grammarbook.com/punctuation/quotes.asp

I hope you enjoy it, too.

BadNick 06-25-2010 06:55 PM

Thank you, Jet!

I'm not just saying this to appease you, but I found those quotation mark rules informative and reassuring. I have actually questioned my own use of quotation marks quite a few times and this clears up my main questions.

Jetée 06-25-2010 07:10 PM

I appeciate you actually stating you said this not to appease me, but you acknowledged and accepted its teachings. I do feel a bit needy here, don't I? Such comes the price for sharing.

I don't know how nuns can be so selfless. I want to be thanked, and hear it as such, from time to time.

And speaking of which, (a few pages back) on the medley and tune of Orpheus in Hades; I think this is actually the basis for the 'Can-Can', would you not agree?

BadNick 06-25-2010 07:19 PM

hmmm, that Can-Can thing I have to go revisit. I don't remember.

Now that I noticed I forgot to thank you for your quotation mark guidance, I went back and edited it in, since I meant to say that. Thank you. If only life were so simple and we could go back and edit it to correct or change things....ahhhhh.

Jetée 06-25-2010 07:27 PM

I've been meaning to work on a new theory on that sort of thing, but then that would factor in working on time traveling, and without yet perfecting my new "perfect" calendar, (of which I found some old kinks in the machine again) it'll still be some time before I'll revisit the notes of whether or not it is possible to back in time, even if just for 12 seconds (or more, depending on height, weight, age).

I missed my deadline for starting it again. I've got too much on my plate; and I'm still hungry for more (diversity).

I think it's been exactly 12 years and counting since I told myself to buy a new camera (canoe, parakeet, etc.) and I have yet to allow this to come to fruition. I'm pitiful. Procrastination will soon become a new entry for the medical dictionary, I predict.

BadNick 06-26-2010 07:05 AM

I know, that bugs me.

as an impetus.

"Rules"! As they're stated, "a,b,c," they're made to be broken.

((2+2)/8)x2=1

BadNick 06-26-2010 07:34 PM

Very astute, Ocm?. <<< oh, oh. I just got paranoid about having a period after a question mark. I'm sure that's a rule somwhere.

As you say, Ocm?, why would anyone even make a rule unless they expected it to be broken? I mean if you knew for absolutely sure that no one would ever break a rule, why would you even make that rule? Would there be a point for such a rule?

Jetée 06-26-2010 07:55 PM

To have precedence. That's the entire basis for our current culture and studies of the histories.

I'd recommend you reading this and giving your thoughts on the article, but then again, no. Nobody would reply to you because it is within a topic of mine, so you would be an extension of my insignicant thoughts, and there is an unwritten "rule" instated outside these confines and everywhere else here that I am to be avoided, and made to feel invisible.

Perhaps I'm just being the paranoid one now, but nevertheless, it's working. :( (first/last smilie usage for this month)

BadNick 06-26-2010 08:11 PM

I had a couple contributions to your list thread. As far as that Mr. Semiotician, my revolting nature says I don't need no stinkin' signs, they just block my view.

Jetée 06-26-2010 08:16 PM

Sign of the times?

(I'll probably get back into finding and discovering semi-topical images to post, instead of pondering the melancholy unnecessities.)

ring 06-27-2010 12:03 PM

I collect my mother's lists, for a few reasons.

1: Her longhand penmanship is beautiful.

2: They are quaint & telling time capsules of her thought processes.

3: I enjoy reading her jumbled lists. On one list she will have grocery items,
books that she wants to read, articles from magazines she wants to share,
& household chores that need to be done..etc.

Sometimes, when I make lists,
I'll go for the, Im Grat. Listing a few endeavors that have already been accomplished, and placing a check mark next to them, provides some sense
of completion & control, if I'm feeling particularly tasked.

I bookmarked that article. I listed it for Mother to read.
