Switch Places!

I honestly try not to give up any contextual spoilers to what I have in mind for any post of mine, but when other members just quote the first five words I state, or place me in a virtual headlock over parenthetical, silly thoughts I just included to give you a piece of my mind as I was jotting down this post, it doesn't serve me well to ever voice an opinion again if the 3 second snippet is taken, and the other 30 minutes I spent composing is trashed. Maybe it's the everything you say, I'll think the opposite mentality that the internet has bred? THIS is why I have such a contempt for sarcasm (and also, I don't understand it half the time either).

That's why I mostly curtailed my involvement in general discussion. It's too hard to keep up with the joneses, and actually be let alone to be serious.

The lying down game was a post and thematic expression idea I received from a Polish forum/blog (I think everything is a blog nowadays). I'd give an example of it, but again, that would be "contextually-spoiling" its awesome premise (first use of the A-word this month).

In this case, I used parentheses (see above) to substitute a photograph's title that was never really there, or marked as "untitled", so I casually went ahead and supplanted my own "feel" to what it could have been. After reading what square brackets were mostly about (in literature, not mathematics) on th previosu page, I am wondering if I should eschew and abandon the curves, and go for squares instead?

I wonder if a TFP meet-up would be be more or less successful if there was a promise to play some kickball thrown into the foray.

BadNick 06-20-2010 08:00 PM

Around here if you kick the balls they call it "mountain pool". I suppose that's to make fun of the mountain folks for some strange reason...maybe insecure city folks. In any case, I believe the official rules are you have to keep at least one foot on the ground.

I believe he's just marking his twain of thought.

That was the longest day ever. I can't believe how long it was, I still think I'm in it.

BadNick 06-22-2010 07:35 AM

I even got more than the usual amount of sunburn from all the extra solar radiation!

Ourcrazymodern? 06-22-2010 09:47 AM

I walked in the rain,
through the woods, beside the creek,
relishing angles.

Happy summer, everybody!

the first-ever National Beard and Moustache Championships, taking first place

BadNick 06-23-2010 11:46 AM

To me, today seems like the longest day. The 21st blew by so fast I thought it was the Winter Solstice.

Jetée 06-23-2010 12:40 PM

Thanks for bringing that point back up. Are we sure that the longest day really even ended? Today, much as you've said, seems to be a continuation of that fact and observance, and one only needs to look at the eerire coincidences around the Wide Wide World of Sports to realize this is an extraordinary year, in terms of length.

Perhaps it's our last great run?

ring 06-23-2010 12:52 PM

Soccer balls as Langoliers, perhaps?

BadNick 06-23-2010 12:54 PM

I'm an optimistic non-fatalist so I believe things are getting better and our greatest runs are yet to come. By "runs" I don't necessarily mean just sports related achievements nor do I imply that anyone is having gastrointestinal problems.

Jetée 06-23-2010 12:55 PM

Why does the word Langoliers sound familiar, but still look entirely foreign to me (in terms of contextual meaning)?

Ourcrazymodern? 06-23-2010 01:00 PM

Maybe something else:
Entertainment overload,
finally winning.

An alien's tongue,
& a ball, patterned Bowzer,
what more could one ask?

Jetée 06-23-2010 01:24 PM

Man, I don't even know what a 'Bowzer' is either.

I'm sleeping on my vocabularium expansion.

water tanker - equates to - river imp

(In my mind, I equate a 'bowser' to a bruising, hulk sort of character. A 'kuppa', or as I more familiarly recognize it as, a KAPPA, is a river monster/spirit. Forgot to mention a Japanese spirit. On the other hand, I equate a 'koopa' to the green-shelled antagonists to Sir Mario, but the way they sport beaks and shells, well, that is a direct tie-in to the legend and mythos associated towards the demonic, foul-tempered KAPPAs.)

Yes, it's been a very long day.

The timekeepers are weary, too.

Jetée 06-23-2010 02:16 PM

Is anybody else as fascinated as I am by this folklore article I posted above?

I'm currently at this stage of the reading:

random thought for the day: nobody uses the word 'literally' right anymore, so far removed from the orginal contextual meaning, it's downright pitiful.

BadNick 06-23-2010 06:12 PM

it sounds like an alley where cats go to have their kittens

btw, one of my dear sisters (they are both very dear) and some of her neighbor friends have caught a large number of feral cats that come to her yard to eat, rest. Then they have them spayed or neutered at a friendly local vet. I'm glad they do this since these cats seem to live a tough life in the city so at least this way their numbers seem to be diminishing, though too many people are irresponsible about caring for their pets so there's always more where they came from.

Jetée 06-23-2010 06:19 PM

Thanks for reminding endearing me to your story about stray, accumulating cats, BadNick. It has called forth something within me, to give me notice.

Were you talking about 'KAPPA' when you stated it sounds like an alleyway where cats gather?

BadNick 06-24-2010 03:34 AM

Jet, not KAPPA. I was referring to literally. Playing with words can be more dangerous than playing with fire. I bet a fireman didn't say that.

Oh. Litter-alley. I get it.

Let's see what pops up in a quick search for the play on words...

Gangsta Skeeter by ~queenmari on deviantART

author's comments:
My friend Xand had a dream one night that Doug (from the old Nick cartoon Doug) had grown up and was now a heroin addict and was shooting up in an alley when up walks adult Skeeter, decked out in gangsta apparel. I had a laugh and then drew this on an oekaki later XD Enjoy

Hey, that ties together, Alley-Skeeters-Nick-and perhaps a soccer ball.

& probably others if I look intently enough.
