Unless it's with a cheesecake......teehee:)

uncle phil 07-12-2009 11:42 AM

you lost to a cheesecake too, huh...

ring 07-12-2009 11:50 AM

Beer is a necessary ingrediant for the best cheesecake.

Ingredients:
1 cup sifted flour
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon grated lemon rind
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 egg yolk
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
***Filling:***
1 cup finely grated sharp cheddar cheese
1 3/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon lemon rind
1/2 teaspoon orange rind
4 eggs
2 egg yolks
1/4 cup beer or ale
1/4 cup heavy cream
2 pounds cream cheese

Turn this recipe into a puzzle! [click]

Directions:

Crust: Preheat the oven to 500 degrees. To prepare the crust, mix the flour, sugar and lemon rind. Cream with the butter. Add the egg yolk and vanilla. Stir till a soft dough is formed. Press 1/3 of the dough onto the bottom of an 8-inch springform pan. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Watch carefully, as it burns quickly. Let cool. Press the remaining dough around the sides of the pan, coming to within 1 inch of the top.

Filling: beat the cream cheese until light and fluffy. Beat in the Cheddar cheese until well blended. Add the sugar, vanilla, and lemon and orange rinds. Beat until smooth. Add the eggs and yolks, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in beer and heavy cream. Pour into the prepared crust. Return to the 500 degree oven and bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Reduce the oven temperature to 250 degrees. Bake for 1 to 1-1/2 hours, or until a tester inserted in the center comes out fairly clean. Cool to room temperature. Serve warm or chilled.

silent_jay 07-12-2009 05:47 PM

uncle phil 07-13-2009 02:23 AM

why not?

BadNick 07-13-2009 06:14 AM

uncle phil 07-14-2009 05:39 PM

ever try some good, fresh-baked garlic knots?

BadNick 07-14-2009 05:51 PM

oh yea! The little joint near here, Bravo Pizza, has the best garlic knots...the perfect degree of greasy garlicy bread...yummy, but they usually give me heartburn.

unc, whaddaya take for a heartburn?

uncle phil 07-15-2009 02:21 AM

bourbon and coke...maybe a cigar...

BadNick 07-15-2009 05:53 AM

and for a haddock?

uncle phil 07-15-2009 11:55 AM

2 tylenol...

BadNick 07-15-2009 05:52 PM

when my knee was sore, I took 3 X 800mg Motrins each day for a few months, then they cut out the torn meniscus and I was good to go

uncle phil 07-16-2009 02:44 AM

for a few months?

BadNick 07-16-2009 03:31 AM

yes, almost 6 mo. The surgeon said "if your job depended on your knee, we'd operate today, but since it doesn't, let's give it a chance to heal before we start cutting" and thus I was Motrinized.

Well, then, this is my latest "fav'd" picture on flickr... and wouldn't you know it, the locale is the peaceful serenity and fun of the beach, what with crashing waves and chickies. For an even better portrayal, you should see the pic I saved before this one. ;)

very nice...and it reminds me that I've been there

Jetée 07-27-2009 05:23 PM

let me figure out where it was taken, or maybe i should just post the page-link?

it's called "sunrise at aazhimala"... but I still can't figure out the continent (darn, I tied it back to "that" word)

BadNick 07-27-2009 06:54 PM

the shape of the boats make me think it's in somewhere in Polynesia, as well as the large group hauling in the fishing nets.

I found this about aazhimala:
The location of Aazhimala couldn’t be more perfect, situated 24 km’s from Trivandrum International Airport & about 8 km’s south of the main tourist resort of Kovalam.

Aazhimala is in the small town of chowara, the area of the resort is just over an acre of reclining hillside sloping down with landscape gardens & beautiful terraces to a depth of around 50 metres. At the end you come to a golden beach nestled by rock formations on both sides to provide exclusivity to it.

Jetée 07-27-2009 07:05 PM

I found this on Aazhimala:

Aazhimala Ayurveda Beach Resort, Kovalam Hotels : Reviews of Aazhimala Ayurveda Beach Resort - Yahoo! Travel

have we answered yet what continent it is on, or I am not looking hard enough?

BadNick 07-27-2009 07:28 PM

so it's in India! ...do they call that the Asian subcontinent?

Jetée 07-27-2009 07:33 PM

Jetée 07-28-2009 03:14 AM

It was the first result of my eight-second search... glad to be of service...

and now I need to watch the entire movie now, and that other Nicholson film where he is a hippie aiding some runaway deaf girl, I think. It's amazing how many times I never sat through an entire film before 1983. Astronomical, maybe.

BadNick 07-28-2009 05:39 AM

btw, it's Jim Beam not Jack.

Fortunately, I have the soundtrack to Easy Rider in my car's multidisk player. Along with the soundtracks to The Harder They Come, and O Brother, Where Art Thou? ...that makes 3
