I have to confess, I'm guilty of not paying attention to the different kinds of sushi that I eat - I love them all.
I always go to sushi trains and just grab whatever looks nice off the conveyor. I should probably pay more attention to the written menu. I do like watching a good sushi chef work though, those guys are amazing. |

My favorite types of Sushi rolls are the Dynamite roll (Tempura shrimp), BC Roll (Salmon skin) and Yam roll. My favorite sashimi is definitely salmon. As for sushi...I'd say the Unagi (BBQ eel) is great!
Best part about sushi is actually making it. I've only done that a couple of times but it's a hoot.

mm...unagi...mmm. i love the smoky taste of any sushi with unagi in it. typically i order whatever the sushi chef's special is--our little Japanese place here in town does one that has avocado in it, shrimp and salmon. Mmm, very good.

I'm crazy about sushi. I live in an area that has lots of great cheap sushi joints.
My favorites are: Uni Unagi Toro Saba Ukura Ama ebi with fried heads I don't order rolls with city names or with gobs of mayo or cream cheese in them, they just don't cut it for me. I do like small simple maki roll's like Salmon maki and Tuna maki. Here's a take out tray we had tonight. It costs $28 CDN, about $16 US....it's good to know your Itamae, he'll give you good deals

Fuckin' shit, dude. I want that plate of goodness.
I'm gonna cry now... I've never had good uni. What do you like about it? One time at Fuji Do in Harrisburg (highly reccomended. go and see Twan if you can.) I got ama ibi, and there it comes with the deep-fried heads of the shrimp. I didn't eat them an the waitress came and said, "You didn't eat that? it's the best part." I thought it was a game--get the round-eye to eat the garnish, but she was serious. I ate them. Tasty. The second(long) antennae are a bit awkward, but it's neat. |

All of the Sushi's in the picture I like with the following exceptions:-
1. Not ever had the Uni or Tobiko 2. Not a fan of Unagi Thanks for the names though! I've never known what they were called. I would say that Tuna is my favourite.

He did the same thing to me for the ama ebi fried head too. It's a bit wierd but very tasty too. I'd recommend sitting at the bar and try and get to know the guy making your food and try different stuff...you may even be given freebies

I love sushi! Where I live now, it's really hard to get anything good, but I've been quite a few places where it's excellent!

I just had a wonderful lunch with a serving of uni sashimi, fresh from the shelll. It was delicious, and reminded me of the ocean. Another diner casually asked me how my meal was, and related to me a story about his trip to Greece. He said he was diving for sea urchins, and when they got topside, the divemaster handed out some limes. They cracked open the shells, squirted the lime inside, and scooped out the most delicious eggs ever eaten. I'm headed for Greece.
Ah yes, I sampled both East and West coast sea urchin. I must say, the Pacific bred sea urchin was much larger, and tastier than it's brethren from Maine. It must have something to do with the temperature of the water. Does anyone else have any regional favorites?

<- occupation sushi chef
my favorite sushi includes: Tuna, Saba, Eel, Surf Clam, Octopus, Conch. my #1 fav is Ikura. i hate raw salmon and white tuna because its very oily. salmon is okay when its cooked though. white tuna isn't even a tuna. it's escolar! they just call it white tuna to sell it. the real white tuna is abalone and i dont like that one much because its way too soft for my taste. its about as soft as uni. if you ever go to a sushi bar and ask what the white fish is.. most places use ""Red Snapper". i put those in quotations because it really isn't red snapper. it just looks like red snapper. its really talapia. but the restaurant wont tell you that because talapia is kinda at the bottom of the exotic fish list. some places might tell you its Izumidai which is the correct japanese name. but its really talapia. |

ewwwwwww white tuna is sooooo mushy.. and salmon is good, but mushy to cut. I hate skinning salmon because its all oily and soft. Damn all that for $16USD thats pretty cheap for all that
I know my sushi bar doesnt use talapia because I dont like talapia very much.. and I know the staff down there and Ive seen them clean whole fishes. And they use yellowtail tuna.. which is $$$ but they sell soooo much sushi.. its amazing the place is always packed and I cant leave without dropping $25 or more. Even the beer, and tempura and snacks are very cheap |

Masa Restaurant - Time Warner Center
10 Columbus Circle New York City, NY (212)823-9800 Ginza Sushiko closed Ginza Sushiko Restaurant in Beverly Hills, that bastard. I paid an arm and a leg for first class plane tickets, a hotel, SNL tickets, broadway tickets, and a slew of other americana the last time I visited NY. This was by far the best money spent. Despite the $600 bill (+$90 tip, yikes), this was the best sushi experience of my life. Every time I visit NY now, I end up here. Book about a year in advance. Seriously. |

I'd go for sashime if I can, the rice part fills you up too quickly. Many consider it "imitation" Japanese food but I like Todai and Onami restaurants. Usually you get charged by piece with sushi, I'd go broke before I can fill my stomach half way.

My favorites are oyster special (w/ uni and quail's egg-yum!), fatty tuna (gotta be fresh, not frozen), spanish makerel, spider roll, spicy scallop, oh...so many! It's hard to go out for sushi when I always drop a hundred bucks....almost never happens anymore (esp since my current bf doesn't like it).
Home sushi: sugar/soy sauce reduction, saute portobello slices, roll with cuke or avocado, nori and rice....fabulous.

I'm actually a vegetarian and where I live, the sushi joints tend to have so-so selections. Therefore, I'll eat whatever vegetarian sushi the talented chef chooses to throw in front of me. MMmmm, sushi.
Hopefully going to Haiku in Columbus, OH this weekend for some good sushi!

I've only ever had shrimp sushi and a veggie california roll (which was terrible).
It was at a really large Chinese buffet in the Bronx that had a sushi bar. But it wasn't just sitting around, they actually had a guy there who would make whatever you wanted. There were so many things I wanted to try but I was so intimidated by all the fancy names. I really want to go to a sushi place with someone who knows what's what so I can really try it. That plate looked very appetizing, especially for only $16. That's pretty cheap from what I've heard. |
