If given the option of stinky dog breath or stinky cat breath, I'd have to go with stinky cat breath. Nothing like waking up in the morning with a big furry critter in your face to greet you "good morning! wake up now and feed me!"
Plus, a yowling cat is much more tolerable than a barking dog. Cripes. Never going through that again.

Ok I'll say it..... I fucking hate dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only thing the little ones are good for is punting!!!!!!! All the barking and jumping and acting stupid when you get home. And the dogs that get so happy or so nervous they piss on the floor???? What the hell is that???? Can you leave a dog in the house for the weekend??? Hell no, you'd have crap all over the place... and the dumb thing would probably eat your couch. I personally don't want to have to take Fido for a walk in a rain storm just so he can piss on his favorite tree. They eat too much... and they smell way worse then cats too!!! About the only thing i prefer dog over cat for is taste!!! cat is too stringy.
CATS RULE!!!!!!

CATS: The perfect pet. Every couple of days, fill the food bowl, get fresh water. Going on a trip? No problem! Change the litter box, dump the bag of food out, raise the toilet seat. Leave for a week.
DOGS: Seems like almost monthly visits to the vet for allergies, heart worm pills, ear infections, flea stuff, etc. Must be feed a couple of time a day. Chews up anything left out. The thing drinks about 5 gallons of water a day of which half end up on the floor. Glad to see me when I get home but knocks everything over trying to get to me. Needs frequent walks in all kinds of weather. Poops and pees about every 10 minutes. Going on a trip? No problem! Call around to the kennels to see if they have room. Pay $10 to $15 a day not including food. Get everything ready and haul the stupid mutt over to the kennel. When I get home, get to the kennel before they charge me for another day. etc, etc, etc... Please why even get a pet if you don't want the responsibility then? Lord forbid you ever have children. Cats need to see vets too ya know they also can get diagnosed with Feline Aids. Everytime we take our dogs in to get boarded we see more cats at the damn place gettin fixed up than dogs. You think cats don't mess up your house? Leave em at your house for a week and come back to your couch shredded. You have to buy them way more excessories so they don't destroy your freakin house. 11 different toys cause they get bored with all of em, a scratching board so they don't claw up on all your furniture. A dog you just give em one bone and they'll chew it till it's completely gone and a litter box smells worse than any dog I've ever had plus no dog of mine has ever brought a dead animal into my house (not that dogs don't I'm sure they do). Seems like everyone here likes cats not because they're better companions or more loving pets but because they require no responsibility. Shitty reason if you ask me. Just tie the dog outside give him a big bowl a water and a big bowl a dog food. They aren't as big a responsibility as you guys are making them out to be.

Dogs all the way. I have always liked a pet that you can do things with, and nothing is like a dog.
I like my hunting breeds--labs especially, but some retrievers and lots of spaniels are good dogs. Hunting breeds tend to be good dogs to train, and contrary to what many people think, it does not mean it is a viscious dog. Dogs must be trained though, untrained dogs annoy me. This is another reason why I like dogs though--you cant really train anything like you can a dog. I cant wait to move out of my dorm so that I can get myself a new Lab.

I just thought of something else, too. Another reason why I like dogs is that you need to care for them. Having a pet is a big responsibility, and buying a pet to just sit around and do nothing with is a little less than moral in my eyes. Part of the joy of having a pet is being able to play with it, and care for it, and by buying an animal that needs no care, you are skipping out on the responsibility that comes with a pet, and I think this tends to be the wrong reason to buy a pet. To be blunt, if you don't have the time or desire to truly care for the animal, don't get one.

I prefer dogs to cats, though I still like cats very much. With dogs what can you say? They're loyal enough to fight to the death for you, affectionate and fun to wrestle with.
Cats are nice, but they won't do shit if you're violently murdered while you sleep.

I don't know. I just think that if you don't have kids but want to know what it's like...get a dog. Another thing, my cats are very enjoyable. They're very friendly and love attention. They actually race the dog to the door when I come home. Last edited by Dibbler; 10-20-2003 at 04:54 PM.. |

No two animals are the same. I've known people who can do the same thing with dogs and they don't do any damage either. They just walk out the doggy door and walk back in. I think it depends on the animal you have. I'm sure certain cat breeds are more prone to diseases than other cat breeds as is the same with dogs. I'm sure if the cat could he'd fight to the death for your life too. Never said they weren't loving or anything least I don't think I did. I just pointed out some of the things people say about dogs that aren't true with all dogs and are true with some cats. Picking them soley because of those reasons is being a little close minded wouldn't ya think? I mean all the reasons why people don't like Dogs is because you have to actually CARE for a dog. I just think thats a rather lazy and irresponsible reason. I mean thinking about it even a fish prolly holds more responsibility than a cat. How old is your Retriever? They're great family dogs....really smart. We could use a cat for these little fuckin mice that keep runnin round the house. Used to have a bunch. Only one I really became attatched to was this adorable kitten I used to have named Amber. She was furry and um redish color to the hair with white streaks in it.....I don't know cat breeds :-\ We all loved that one though she was very loving. She would climb on us and sleep on us. I think some bitch stole her though.

I grew up with both dogs and cats and really they both are great. As many have said, they each offer something different and enjoyable. That being said, I have two dogs and no cats. I would get a cat, but my dogs do not like them. Next time around, I will get a puppy and a kitten at the same time and raise them together. But, if I had to make a choice it would be a dog. WOOF!

A cat. Doesn't bug you for attention and loves to snuggle when you're sick. I get so many others during the day that bug me for attention - one more if not appreciated. A dog would HAVE to be walked and taken out to go and played with more. A cat is more able to care for itself. I already have enough people to care for in my life I don't need more. A cat is the pet for me. Now if I could choose any pet besides cat or dog I would choose a bird. I love their song and my parakeet Cappy used to follow me everywhere in the house and sit on my shoulder and come when I called. He even sang while I played the piano. A bird is the best pet ever.

I have mixed feelings..
Dogs are more loyal and appreciative of their owners. Cats are generally solitary beings that aren't going to be as loyal as a dog from my experiences. I still consider myself a cat person though. I love animals, so I don't really see the need to put one above the other, but in terms of which pet I would rather own at this stage in my life, I would have to say a cat. They are less maintenance and if I get one that is friendly, they can provide companionship. I love dogs also, but right now for me to get a dog, I fear it wouldn't get enough attention and taken care of enough to result in it having an enjoyable life with me. When I am older, and settled down, I definitely would like to get a small dog, but right now a cat is just a better pet for me to have. They both are great though. I like animals a lot, and think they make for great companions. One funny note regarding cats.. We have two now, both used to be strays before we took them in. I picture them living a rough life in the alley, eating whatever they could scrounge up.. Now, years after being taken in by my family, they only eat a certain brand of cat food, and even then, only will eat certain flavors of that particular brand. It's quite humorous to note how spoiled they have become so fast.

More than just cat vs. dog, the size of the dog matters too.
I like big lovable dogs. Little yappy ones don't have much appeal to me. Cats are completely out of the question. This of course is made more interesting by the fact that I grew up in a house with 2 cats and a small yappy dog (schnauzer). We had Wilson, a big brown mutt (120lbs), from '84-97. Now we have Happy, a Golden Retriever that doesn't retrieve much. Anyway, in this poll, count me in the guy-big dog category. Thanks for listening. |

Wel, I really used to like cats a lot. I lived with cats for 13 years until I went away to college last year. Some how I developed an allergy to them, so now when I go home, especially if it's been a long time since I've been around cats, I get very sick. Just last weekend I had to go home for fall break, and I am still sick right now!
Dogs... eh, dogs are alright. Never really cared too much for em though.. and I sure don't have any plans on owning one. |

I appreciate cats for what they are, and I appreciate dogs for what they are... they both do something that I like, which is why I have both

i just realized that everyone here is talking about inside pets. me personally i was referring to outside pets. At my house only the dogs get fed because only they work to kep the house a safer place. the cats get paid in a different way. they get any creature which burrows crawls flies anywhere on our land and believe they get it all, or else they just eat dog food. we feed the pregnant cats just because of the fact that they are pregnant

Once upon a time...
|
I have a cat. It's as affectionate a creature as I have ever known, but the important part is that when I am out at work or something, it's happy to do its own thing.
It's hard on a dog, I think, being left behind, they need a lot of companionship to be happy. It's a two way thing with any animal... except for fish I guess Also, a dog needs a good sized garder to run in, to be fair on it. Cats are a tad more adaptable.
