Exercise - it can save your mind- How much do you do?
Interesting, but perhaps not surprising research that a sharp mind and exercise go hand in hand:
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/10877612/#storyContinued So the question of the day is how much exercise do you do? For me I walk about 2-3 hours a day. |

An embarrassingly low amount. However, I've just quit my desk job and found a workout buddy, so I have no excuse not to get my ass in gear. I always feel so much better when I'm moving a lot.

I don't go to the gym. Even though it's downstairs and free. I used to go and do weight training, but haven't been in awhile. My exercise is walking. Since we live in downtown Chicago we walk everywhere (grocery store, parks, shopping, etc). I'm also a first grade teacher so I'm constantly on my feet and doing activities with the students.
During the weekends we will easily walk 20 miles. I've never been able to stick to an exercise routine. I just hope that my daily routines and active life style will fulfill the workout needs. I do notice a remarkable difference in my life though. I always lived in areas that weren't conducive to walking. In fact, where I grew up if I would walk to the store that was about 2 blocks away people would look at me like I was crazy. Since I've moved here and became more active, my disposition and health has definitely taken a turn for the better.

I get 3 hours minimum of cardio from spins classes each week. I also add another 30-45 minutes on an Arc Trainer each time I lift, which is usually 3 times/week. I feel the best when I keep this pace but I take a week of every three months.

I could do more but hate routine in all things. I do pilates/yoga once a week at home usually after a long walk around my neighborhood. I always feel better afterwards but it doesn't motivate me to do more. I prefer walking to most forms of exercise. I do not have a weight problem--never had; good genes I guess but I am prone to be meloncholy and walking is the best deterent I've found, ever.

I do cardio about 4 times a week and I lift about 3-4 times a week. Some days I lift then run, others I just run or just lift.

I was doing about 1hr each/3 times a week until January hit. Then we started remodeling and I've had absolutely no time. BUT I've been doing a LOT more lifting, carrying and heavier work during the day so my activity level has not dropped. I'm just not getting the aerobic workout that I should be getting.

My job requires constant exercise. 8 hours a day, 5 days a week of constant walking, lifting, pushing, pulling etc. So when I get home I'd say I'm allowed to relax.

I take a walk every day on my lunch half-hour. Usually a 2 mile or so loop, up and down hills in a residential area. On weekends there is this really great trail by my house, 3 big, steep hills then down the back side, then over and down again on a paved road. Takes a little over an hour, makes for a great workout.
I'll admit that I should do some weight training for my upper body, but for my weight-loss routine, the walking does the trick. I regularly post in the TFP weight watchers topic, since I started last May, I have lost 108 lbs.

I Spin cycle 3-4x a week, if not doing that then I try to run or workout on the elliptical crosstrainer. I also weight train 1-2x a week for an hour. I took this past week off which is rare, I haven't had a break like that in 2 years. I guess I was feeling burned out and in need of a change. Hoping to get back at it Monday morning!

I work out every week day, and run about three days a week, for at least three miles.

As far as feeling healthier...i feel better when i work out and i do feel *clearer mentally, because i think it's a destresser. sweetpea

Yep, not even therapy for two years helped much until I started exercising regularly. I think it has really helped my mental outlook... I still have my bad days, but exercising has always been positive for me. If only I could stick to a better schedule...
So on my good weeks, I walk about an hour each weekday (20 minutes uphill and stairs), and do cardio (ergometer) 3 x for 20 mins each. Then I lift 3 x for about an hour each time. So I guess if you add it all up, that's close to 10 hours (including making love, which I count as some exercise!). Of course, the cardio and lifting bits haven't been consistent for two months now due to vacations and injuries. I treasure my daily walking commute, though, and am so glad that it is halfway uphill (most of the time). No matter how cold it gets, my pulse is always way up there during that part and I start overheating in my warm clothes!

Go to the gym for 1 to 1.5 hours three times a week. About half weight training, half cardio. I started three years ago after my divorce, and it's helped me to relieve stress ever since.
