Ear Stretching
So i know it is becoming more and more trendy to have your ears stretched but i have it done anyway.......
Does anyone else have their ears stretched? I suppose mine are "medium" at zero gauge..... If you dont and you are opposed to the fact tell me why, but remember they are just ears. |

Mine are somewhere between 0 and 00 ga, because i've got tapers in right now. It's slow going and can be painful at times, but it's completely worth it. I love my stretched ears. I'm planning on going a lot bigger from here I love my piercings.

From Bmezine.com... "If you stretch your lobes, even just a little, there is no guarantee that they will go back "to normal" if you remove the jewelry. Everyone's skin is different. While young healthy skin tends to be very elastic, this elasticity does go away over time, so the longer you have the jewelry in, the longer you have the jewelry, the less likely your ear is to stretch back. In addition, the older you are the less it will stretch back. There are no hard rules, but most people can stretched to about 0ga and have it fully close again, given time. Stretching to 1/2 to 1" in diamater may mostly close, but the resultant lobe will be much larger and will quite likely have (at best) a "cat butt" in the middle. Stretching past an inch should not be expected to close full, although it will shrink dramatically (to about 1/2 its size usually). Fully closing a stretched ear is a surgical procedure."

It depends on the time you've had them in, and what size they are whether or not they completely close.
I'm not too worried about the closing part, I fully intend on wearing mine for an extended period of time. They're not big or gaudy, and I think they look cute Depends on the person I guess, we're all different in the bodmod scene. |

I guess I'm too conservative, I have my ear pierced, but that's it for me. A couple of friends are into this, and it's not a big deal to them, but try to get a professional job, it just doesn't work. But if that's what you want to do, then have fun.

Well then having settled that matter:
No, I for one don't really think it's the best of ideas. I mean, how many 50 year old men do you have to see with faded, wrinkled tatoos of semi-naked mythical sea creatures do people have to see before they decide maybe placing tatoos on their forearms where the sun will break down the pigment and make them look like gigantic patches of gangrene is not a good idea? Ok, so one could stretch their ear, but then, when you're older there's no guarantee you will want to keep them that way, and it sounds a little irreversable... Then again, it's your ears, feel free, but no complaining 20 years from now |

Where I come from, we call it 'gauging'. I've never heard it called stretching before...
I'd never do it. It creeps me out. I had a good friend in high school that did it though. He liked to gross my cousin Nikki out by holding cigarettes and pens, pencils, etc. in it. I've only seen a few people who look good with their ears gauged... they've all been men... and all been MMmmmmMMmmmm goood!

Wow, I saw on Riply's who was doing the same thing with his lower lip. I am sure you would get lots of stares. But who cares about everyone else? Its the first time I have even heard of it, but it sounds like it could be very erotic depends on how big you get them. By the way the guy on Riply's had a 7in disk or so in his lip.

My sister does it.. I don't know the size, but they look pretty fucking cool. She's an Anthro Major, and thus its more cultural to her than "trendy" On the plus side, you pay like 50 cents for a set of earings, just by going to the local hardware store. How cool is that? Her favorite pair has an 'inside' that is clear with a skull in the center. Anthro Major.. skull.. Anthro, SKull? Yeah. It looks pretty cool though. Her boyfriend does it as well, fits him too. As for me? I just don't think I'd look right with them.

I was under the impression that if you put the gauges in slowly, and you didn't scar them, they would grow back in. But what do I know, I just started mine, I'm on 16s. Hay, when you can't get anymore piercings, gotta do something;-)

Please be careful.
Decorating your body may effect you lifetime earnings, your health, your occupation, your choice of mate, and your self-esteem. Today tattoos are cool, tomorrow is another day. Style comes and goes. How can you be an individual when everyone is doing it? I personally find facial peircings to be almost gastly. Tongue rings make it hard to have communication and seem very dangerous. Me: "Hi, can I get a New York steak, medium, baked, salad with blue cheese and an iced tea." Waitress: "Mew Morg dake, meeium, baded poao, walad booeeese ressin and I pee, do woo wan wemon?" Me (with a confused face, wondering if this person has been in the customer service career field for long): "New York steak, medium, baked, salad with blue cheese and an iced tea." Waitress: "Matwut Iseeead" Me (to wife after a screwed up $26 meal): I bet she has peirced ear drums too. Tip..... for poor service, an attitude, and having to look at that nasty crap..... I think NOT. BTW, I will not be back, I will mention it to the manager on the way out. I guess it is because I wa raised in the late 70's when au natural was in style. ::rant:: I find the money that I have saved by not "decorating" my body is better spent in other ways. In case you are wondering, yes I get pissed when I see people with hundreds of dollars worth of non-essential crap when they drive a POS car that breaks down in the middle of the road and pollutes our environment needlessly, pay for groceries with food stamps or get "free to the needy" anything when they have the ability to pay. ::soapbox now vacant::

I was just about to say the same thing. Good luck getting a decent job when the person hiring you can see somebody behind you through your ear.
It has been my limited experience that people who have these outrageous piercings thrive on the attention. Unfortunately for them, they are just another body setting off the metal detector and nothing special. |

Whatever.
Hopefully it is only a matter of time before society and employers can see the person the earlobe is attached to. ::rant:: Maybe i am biased since both my earlobes are at a half inch. I just think it is ridiculous when i hear people make broad, ignorant generalizations about the character of random strangers based on their appearance. I would love if, at some point, getting a job was actually more being able to do the job competently and effectively, than conforming to the interviewer's prejudices and misconceptions. ::soapbox now vacant:: P.s. boo, i think it is a huge stretch to blame the poor service at a restaurant on the fact that your server had her toungue pierced. It seems more like you're still angry and in order to make yourself feel better you are picking out some superficial detail and harping all over it. |

Ear stretching looks boring. Do it to your cheek, and spurt water - that would be funny. Or on your stomach, but instead of a hole, use plexiglass. That would be cool, and you could rent yourself out to biology classes. Get in a bureau with all of those cows. Or start your own.
Or you could do it on your eyelids, and be able to see stuff in your sleep, so nobody could sneak up on you. Or what about in the middle of your hand? That would look so cool. You guys need to get ahead of the style - ears are so passé. Really. |

I think's Boo's rant was on target.
Get pissed all you want. I know it's your body and you can do what you want with it. I also know that it's discrimination to not hire people with piercings and tatoos, but it happens, get over it. Point is that my friend's little sister had several piercings (tongue, eybrow, 5-6 in each ear) and went out looking for a job. She didn't get a single call back. He then told her to take the piercings out and try it again, she got called back on every single application and now has two jobs. Once again, call it profiling, discrimination, whatever you want. Fact is we area visual society and most retail businesses think twice about hiring someone who is overly "decorated'.

eh, i just got my cartilidge pierced with a 14 instead of the standard (i think it was 14, definately thicker).
thad is the biggest I will ever get because of things discussed in this thread. Things like finding a job. I don't think I'm meant to beable to put my finger through my ear lobe and touch my neck. just me though, and i'm not currently a teenager which i'm sure effects my decision making process. I don't care if others do it, it's their life, their choices. I do find it stupid though because eventually it will bite you in the ass with employment or something. Unless you get a job where you never have to deal with the public that is. Most employers don't allow more than some earrings (no nose, eyebrow, tongue, lip, etc) when dealing with the public because you are there to serve them, not disgust them. |

Hmm...some interesting opinions in this thread.
As for me, 0ga in both ears, and honestly don't care what the majority of the population thinks about it. No offense to anyone, but when it comes to my appearance, I'm all about pleasing me. No "rebellious statements", it's just that I greatly prefer the appearance of me ears with visible holes in them. So far, my school doesn't mind, my very conservative job only requires that I wear solid plugs on the job, and the guys I'm going into business with think it's cool. So, it looks like I'm going to be happy when I look in the mirror and in my wallet. As most of family has pointed out: It won't look so hot once you're 80. As I pointed out: NOTHING on me will look "hot" at 80.
