What do you plan to do after you quit/get let go?
Are you going to look for work right away?
Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills? Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now? Do you think you would ever want to start your own business? Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world? Would you just take a few months off to unwind? Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care? Do you have enough saved up to retire? Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned? |

I've worked at my job for about 3.5 years. In no way is it a job that I really need.
If/when I leave the job, it'll probably be because of school or because of a new job.

Are you going to look for work right away?
If I got let go from my current position, I'd be very disappointed. However, eventually I'll have to quit, and the reason would probably be a real job (right now I'm in school full-time). Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills? Were I lose my job, yes. Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now? Once I'm done with school and looking for a real job, yes, mostly because I love where I live but I'm tired of it. Do you think you would ever want to start your own business? Yes. I'd like to own a bookshop and cafe someday. Or a bed and breakfast. Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world? If I had the time, yes. I've seen a great deal of the United States. I'd like to see other places for a change. Would you just take a few months off to unwind? If I had the money, maybe. I'm not really good at working in high-stress environments. It fucks my body up too much. Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care? Absolutely. Having worked in daycare...no thanks. I won't be sending my child there if I can help it. Do you have enough saved up to retire? Well, I'm 24. Retirement is not really something on my mind at this point, but I do plan on starting an IRA once I get a real job, and since I'm going into teaching, I'll have state retirement benefits. Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned? Yes, I've thought about it, because my dad turns 59 and a half in six days and can finally get into his IRA. The amount of money he has saved in there is insane, plus he has an annuity through the state retirement system, and state retirement benefits due to him once he does retire. I hope to be on as good or better footing than that when I get close to retirement.

Not knowing how to do the snazzy quote bit, here goes:
Are you going to look for work right away? I am only because it's financially necessary. Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills? Probably, I have little in the bank to hold me over. Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now? I would if I could afford the moving costs. Do you think you would ever want to start your own business? I would love to if the capital landed in my lap. Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world? That's a lifelong dream. Would you just take a few months off to unwind? IF I could, damn right I would! Even if just to stay at home and read all day. Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care? Um..N/A Do you have enough saved up to retire? Abso-fucking-lutely not. Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned? I think about it constantly but attempt to not let it stress me out. |

I've been down sized, and fired, twice in a year, this sort of hits home.
Are you going to look for work right away? Yes, and always job shopping. Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills? Unfortunately yes, my wife doesn't work. Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now? Yes, but it's harder to convince her into moving. Do you think you would ever want to start your own business? Yes, but have no ideas what to do. Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world? 3 months to travel the US, not the world. 3 months without a job sucks though. Would you just take a few months off to unwind? If I have tons o money yes. I'd play lots of golf. Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care? My wife already does this, and I can't be home 24 hrs with them for more than 2 weeks without pulling my hair out. Do you have enough saved up to retire? What's saved up? Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned? Lotto baby! |

This all depends. If it happened right now, or after my house is built.
If it happened now. 1. - No, I would not look for a job right away. 2. - For once in my life I have a multi-month financial cushion, I would file for unemployment (I guess I would look for jobs to fulfil my unemployment), but I would not worry about bills for at least two months. 3. - I would do exactly what I did this summer, load my bike with everything I need to survive, and start pedaling. I would go to Jackson Hole, Missoula, Calgary, Whistler, and Vancouver, look at local newspapers for job openings, and stop at the location of those available positions that interest me and hand them my resume and ask for an interview before I pedal out of the town. 4. - Maybe... 5. - I guess pedaling around for months at a time would fall under travelling the world for months at a time. If it lasted that long I would keep doing it, if I found a job I liked in a place I liked I would stop. If my house were completed. That makes things much different. If I could find renters quickly, I would go with the same idea as above. Otherwise I would look for any job I could get in the region to help pay for bills while I look for renters. If I had a SO the circumstances would be much different also. Saying all that, I like my job, like where I am at, and will do everything I can to keep my position, but having lost jobs multiple times before, even when I thought things were going great it's nice to know I'll be alright if it did happen. |

When I left the cellphone company, I'd built up enough money to not work for a month before starting to look for something to replace it. I took the time to relax, finally, after being in such a high-pressure job (sales, management). I also took the time to plan out what i'd decided to do (and am currently in the process of), which was to go back to school and become a Paramedic.
I will be working all over, so it doesn't much matter where my "base" is. I'll cover all different areas, depending on for whom I work. I don't think I'll ever want to start my own business. Just not really my thing, and not in line with my professional interests. I'm not much of a traveller. I enjoy vacationing, but I'm not a fan of "unknowns", which you can definitely have a lot of while on vacation in unknown areas. I hope to save up more than enough to retire... because by the time i'm ready to do so, I will probably really need to be done working. |

Are you going to look for work right away?
I am looking now. Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills? I can afford to live off savings for a few months, plus I make some money from selling artwork and designing websites. So I will have time to be choosey. Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now? Yes Do you think you would ever want to start your own business? Definitely Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world? Would love to but that isn't feasible yet Would you just take a few months off to unwind? no, I enjoy the kind of work I do Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care? No kids to watch Do you have enough saved up to retire? I have enough money to live off of for the rest of my life, as long as I don't buy anything, lol Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned? I invest and put money in savings to try and prepare for retirement |

Are you going to look for work right away?
Absolutely- I am a student, so I need all the money I can get. Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills? See above. Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now? Probably neighbouring cities, yes. Do you think you would ever want to start your own business? Maybe as a side "job," but never as my only job (unless I was at home taking care of a child). I like having a steady income. Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world? Sure, I'd want to, but it's not feasible. Would you just take a few months off to unwind? Maybe a couple weeks, but not months. I would start to get too anxious about finances. Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care? Yes. It's important to teach them morals and values while they're young. At least, that's what I believe. Do you have enough saved up to retire? HAAAHAHAHAHA, no way. Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned? Yep, I'm working on saving right now. |

Are you going to look for work right away?
-Ya, but I won't necessarialy take the first job that is offered to me. Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills? -Ya to pay bills you owe, so as not to fall into debt. But once the bills are paid and I know no more are comming after them, I will make sure that those particular bills stay away. Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now? -Yes. Do you think you would ever want to start your own business? -That would be my main concern, finding a job second, however not forgotten. Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world? -If I had not bills to pay, storage for my shit for a given amount of time, paid off house, or apt lease up, and no children dependant on me, definetly. Would you just take a few months off to unwind? -Fuck no, It will be that much harder to get back into the game. Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care? -I don't have kids, and If I get this vasectomy in time, I will not ever have to worry about that. (nice I just did some research and found that testosterone stays in the bloodstream after a vasectomy) Do you have enough saved up to retire? -I'll retire when I am dead. Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned? -Ya my plan is to do whatever makes me the happiest even it means being homeless and dying of starvation. |

Are you going to look for work right away?
No. I'm still travelling (over 1 year so far). Currently in Argentina and will stay until March or April when the weather improves in Canada. I want to travel through Argentina until then. When I go back to Canada, I'll likely re-train for a new type of work. Like space travel. Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills? No. I have family and money to survive for the near future. I've never been in debt. My cost of living here is very affordable. 3 pesos to the Dollar. Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now? Yes. I'd even apply in different countries. I think the real question is if you'd move there and leave the life you had, behind. Do you think you would ever want to start your own business? No. At least not right now. Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world? Yes, I'm taking more than that off now. I quit my job long before I went travelling. I was in a unique position and could afford to do it, financially at least. The rest of my future is even more uncertain. Would you just take a few months off to unwind? Yes. It's a good way to clear your mind. It took about 6 months before I didn't think about my work or past troubles at least once a day. Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care? I don't have kids but I'll look after some if you give me money. Travelling isn't cheap. Do you have enough saved up to retire? Hmmm... maybe, but that might mean living in a box. I'll start work again and avoid that route if possible. I also invested well when I was young, which I'm thankful for now. Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned? Yes. I'd like to be nicer to people. The more you give, the more you get, in the end. |

I wouldn't quit my job unless I either had enough money to retire or I had another job already lined up.
If I was fired or laid off, I would look for another job right away. I could afford to be out of work for a little bit but it sometimes takes a while to find a new job. If I farted around for weeks or even months, I might still be looking for a job even after my savings had been used up.
