What do you plan to do after you quit/get let go?

Are you going to look for work right away?

Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills?

Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now?

Do you think you would ever want to start your own business?

Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world?

Would you just take a few months off to unwind?

Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care?

Do you have enough saved up to retire?

Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned?

I've worked at my job for about 3.5 years. In no way is it a job that I really need.

If/when I leave the job, it'll probably be because of school or because of a new job.

In my case, yes. Spouse is a skilled tradesman. In some ways, that's not as good because it's less flexible.

I do that now. I'm not immune to the idea of picking up and going or getting something that would require travel.

I am doing that now, with very limited success. I've yet to make back my initial supply outlay and may never do that, but doing something you love, even at a loss, is better than doing only what's necessary to survive.

Stayed home their first 6 years, until they were in first grade and from that point, only worked while they were in school. I highly recommend taking time to be home with your kids. They're only kids once and childhood is swift.

I always have 'ideas' planned. Reality has a way of biting into those plans, though. Right now, working a lousy job and still having time to do what I love seems the best compromise. And it's not even that the job is that lousy-more that the pay really sucks.

Are you going to look for work right away?

If I got let go from my current position, I'd be very disappointed. However, eventually I'll have to quit, and the reason would probably be a real job (right now I'm in school full-time).

Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills?

Were I lose my job, yes.

Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now?

Once I'm done with school and looking for a real job, yes, mostly because I love where I live but I'm tired of it.

Do you think you would ever want to start your own business?

Yes. I'd like to own a bookshop and cafe someday. Or a bed and breakfast.

Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world?
If I had the time, yes. I've seen a great deal of the United States. I'd like to see other places for a change.

Would you just take a few months off to unwind?

If I had the money, maybe. I'm not really good at working in high-stress environments. It fucks my body up too much.

Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care?

Absolutely. Having worked in daycare...no thanks. I won't be sending my child there if I can help it.

Do you have enough saved up to retire?
Well, I'm 24. Retirement is not really something on my mind at this point, but I do plan on starting an IRA once I get a real job, and since I'm going into teaching, I'll have state retirement benefits.

Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned?
Yes, I've thought about it, because my dad turns 59 and a half in six days and can finally get into his IRA. The amount of money he has saved in there is insane, plus he has an annuity through the state retirement system, and state retirement benefits due to him once he does retire. I hope to be on as good or better footing than that when I get close to retirement.

Yes, I would need to start looking for work right away. Although, I would file for unemployment to help in the interim.

Just about...although I would hope for a job with comparable pay. But I'm a single mother with very little savings. I wouldn't have a choice.

Not knowing how to do the snazzy quote bit, here goes:

Are you going to look for work right away?

I am only because it's financially necessary.

Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills?
Probably, I have little in the bank to hold me over.

Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now?
I would if I could afford the moving costs.

Do you think you would ever want to start your own business?
I would love to if the capital landed in my lap.

Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world?
That's a lifelong dream.

Would you just take a few months off to unwind?
IF I could, damn right I would! Even if just to stay at home and read all day.

Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care?
Um..N/A

Do you have enough saved up to retire?
Abso-fucking-lutely not.

Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned?
I think about it constantly but attempt to not let it stress me out.

I have saved up enough money in my vacation fund to not worry about getting a job within the month. Some people buy houses that they barely can afford, cars, new furnature, and a bunch of other things. I save 30% of my income in an account to allow me to choose what I want to do in life instead of having necessity dictate what I need to do. True, I might be driving an 11 year old car that I fix my self instead of getting a loan from the bank to drive a new one. I currently rent an apartment, which can be debatable if it is a good move or not sometimes. But, I can move and not have to worry about selling it.

My bills are very low. If I do lose my job, my rent at $610 is the highest bill, $45 for car insurance, electric at $25 and cell phone at $25 each month are the main other bills I can think of.

Yes. I could easily get a job in Washington DC, if I wanted to live there. But, I would first look at places in Arizona and Nevada. Maybe with a few years of experience I could find a good job there.

I've been down sized, and fired, twice in a year, this sort of hits home.

Are you going to look for work right away? Yes, and always job shopping.

Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills? Unfortunately yes, my wife doesn't work.

Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now? Yes, but it's harder to convince her into moving.

Do you think you would ever want to start your own business? Yes, but have no ideas what to do.

Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world? 3 months to travel the US, not the world. 3 months without a job sucks though.

Would you just take a few months off to unwind? If I have tons o money yes. I'd play lots of golf.

Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care? My wife already does this, and I can't be home 24 hrs with them for more than 2 weeks without pulling my hair out.

Do you have enough saved up to retire? What's saved up?

Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned? Lotto baby!

At this moment, no. I've got enough to completely take a few years off but not enough to never work again. The plan is to work another 15-20 years, then semi-retire and teach or something (7 or 8 options at this point) and then completely retire. I'm ahead of schedule now, but that will change while I'm funding for the kid's education.

I have a very detailed but flexible plan for the next 25 years. I've even got guesses on the insurance market cycles.

This all depends. If it happened right now, or after my house is built.

If it happened now.

1. - No, I would not look for a job right away.

2. - For once in my life I have a multi-month financial cushion, I would file for unemployment (I guess I would look for jobs to fulfil my unemployment), but I would not worry about bills for at least two months.

3. - I would do exactly what I did this summer, load my bike with everything I need to survive, and start pedaling. I would go to Jackson Hole, Missoula, Calgary, Whistler, and Vancouver, look at local newspapers for job openings, and stop at the location of those available positions that interest me and hand them my resume and ask for an interview before I pedal out of the town.

4. - Maybe...

5. - I guess pedaling around for months at a time would fall under travelling the world for months at a time. If it lasted that long I would keep doing it, if I found a job I liked in a place I liked I would stop.

If my house were completed. That makes things much different. If I could find renters quickly, I would go with the same idea as above. Otherwise I would look for any job I could get in the region to help pay for bills while I look for renters. If I had a SO the circumstances would be much different also.

Saying all that, I like my job, like where I am at, and will do everything I can to keep my position, but having lost jobs multiple times before, even when I thought things were going great it's nice to know I'll be alright if it did happen.

When I left the cellphone company, I'd built up enough money to not work for a month before starting to look for something to replace it. I took the time to relax, finally, after being in such a high-pressure job (sales, management). I also took the time to plan out what i'd decided to do (and am currently in the process of), which was to go back to school and become a Paramedic.

I will be working all over, so it doesn't much matter where my "base" is. I'll cover all different areas, depending on for whom I work.

I don't think I'll ever want to start my own business. Just not really my thing, and not in line with my professional interests.

I'm not much of a traveller. I enjoy vacationing, but I'm not a fan of "unknowns", which you can definitely have a lot of while on vacation in unknown areas.

I hope to save up more than enough to retire... because by the time i'm ready to do so, I will probably really need to be done working.

I can afford to live off savings for a few months, plus I make some money from selling artwork and designing websites. So I will have time to be choosey.

Yes

Do you think you would ever want to start your own business?
Definitely

Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world?
Would love to but that isn't feasible yet

Would you just take a few months off to unwind?
no, I enjoy the kind of work I do

Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care?
No kids to watch

Do you have enough saved up to retire?
I have enough money to live off of for the rest of my life, as long as I don't buy anything, lol

Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned?
I invest and put money in savings to try and prepare for retirement

-Yes.

-That would be my main concern, finding a job second, however not forgotten.

Do you have enough saved up to retire?
-I'll retire when I am dead.

Are you going to look for work right away?
No. I'm still travelling (over 1 year so far). Currently in Argentina and will stay until March or April when the weather improves in Canada. I want to travel through Argentina until then. When I go back to Canada, I'll likely re-train for a new type of work. Like space travel.

Do you need to find any job you can to pay the bills?
No. I have family and money to survive for the near future. I've never been in debt. My cost of living here is very affordable. 3 pesos to the Dollar.

Would you apply for jobs in a different city than the one you live in now?
Yes. I'd even apply in different countries. I think the real question is if you'd move there and leave the life you had, behind.

Do you think you would ever want to start your own business?
No. At least not right now.

Would you want to take 3, 6, 12 months off to travel the world?
Yes, I'm taking more than that off now. I quit my job long before I went travelling. I was in a unique position and could afford to do it, financially at least. The rest of my future is even more uncertain.

Would you just take a few months off to unwind?
Yes. It's a good way to clear your mind. It took about 6 months before I didn't think about my work or past troubles at least once a day.

Would you stay home and watch your kid(s) instead of sending them to day care?
I don't have kids but I'll look after some if you give me money. Travelling isn't cheap.

Do you have enough saved up to retire?
Hmmm... maybe, but that might mean living in a box. I'll start work again and avoid that route if possible. I also invested well when I was young, which I'm thankful for now.

Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned?
Yes. I'd like to be nicer to people. The more you give, the more you get, in the end.

I'm not spending/saving any more money not working than when I was working. It costs the same to work as to stay at home, still can't pay the bills, but a job, of the sort that I could get while still making progress on my degree, didn't help.

I'm always willing to move, its what I do best, but hubby is the kind that thinks you have to have a grand plan before doing anything. Hubby and I have always tried to work our schedules so that our kids are in daycare as little as possible, but my first daughter was NEVER in daycare and lost when she started school, so keeping the boys out of daycare isn't really an issue, I want them in SOME. I just didnt' like it when they were living at the babysitters.

I have enough saved to re-tire the car does that count?

Have you ever thought about it or have some other idea planned?
Once we get out of school hubby and I will each be able to make, in starting salaries, more than what we have been earning COMBINED. We intend to save my entire salary for the first three years and just pretend I'm not making any money. We already know that we can live off the amount of money that we're talking about here. Right now saving is not an option.

I've already done it... and now I am in a new job in a new country.

New lease on life.

I wouldn't quit my job unless I either had enough money to retire or I had another job already lined up.

If I was fired or laid off, I would look for another job right away. I could afford to be out of work for a little bit but it sometimes takes a while to find a new job. If I farted around for weeks or even months, I might still be looking for a job even after my savings had been used up.
