you do...
|
and Just in time for me to get back into the fray!
Crazy week, kept peeping in and never had a chance to put in a guess of my own. So where ya Shell? |
Quote:
Wait. Is that a trick question? :p ...You tell me. Ohh, you thought you'd catch me off guard and I'd tell. Okay, I'm on board. I'm at a natural monument somewhere in the world. It resembles someone or something. I'm a little rusty at this so go easy on me....but I do know that I'm in the northern hemisphere. Oh, and uncle phil, thank you and have wonderful time with auntie phil in cancun. Now, you be sure to wine and dine her with a lobster dinner...I hear they're cheap and yummy down there. Maybe I could come and be your chaperone? |
Mt Rushmore?
|
nope...wrong side of the world, amonkie
|
Shell, are you in Asia?
|
yes, BadNick
|
Thailand?
|
land-locked country?
|
I'm still searching, but here's my longshot guess in the meantime:
Shell, are you on this mountain? http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...usaCEE2208.jpg Mount Kailash, Ngari region, Tibet Throughout Asia, there is a myth of a powerful mountain, the navel of the world. Four religious groups - Hindus, Buddhists, Jains of India, and the ancient Bons of Tibet – view the 22,028 foot Mount Kailash as the most sacred pilgrimage site in Asia. For the Buddhists, the mountain's regular form resembles a gigantic natural chorten, a scared Buddhist monument with a square base topped by a dome. To Bonpo, as to Hindus, the swastika was an ancient symbol of power. On the southern face of the sacred mountain, a vertical gully intersecting with horizontal striations in the rock emblazoned the sign for the faithful to witness. ...I think it resembles Pamela Anderson before her last two breast augmentations, and I thought of her since she is right now at the Rite Aid in our neighborhood to promote some new cosmetic product that I offered to rub around on her but they threw me out :( |
^
No, I'm not in Tibet but you're getting closer and, yes, it does have to do with a hill (but only one hill...pamela anderson at your rite-aid in amish country? who wudda thunk it) ---------- Post added at 01:30 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:29 PM ---------- ...oh, and phil, not a land-locked country ---------- Post added at 01:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:30 PM ---------- oh, and amonkie, not in Thailand |
are you in china?
|
Yes, I am in China and it's beautiful here...very unique landscape! I hope your bags are packed 'cuz this is the day...take pics! ...and thanks again for passing the torch in your absence...hurry back
|
i'll guess the great wall, but it's not a "natural" formation...
|
No, I am MUCH further south. I'm in a Province that is as south as you can go in fact.
|
Are you in the Hainan Province?
|
no, amonkie...i forgot about Hainan since it kinda sticks out down there. You're right, that's the furthest south. You're soooo close....province-wise, that is
|
might you be in Guangdong Province?
|
No, but getting hot. You would love this place, Nick, because the landscape has the awesomeness you often show in your photographs. It's one of the most popular tourist destinations in China. But remember, I'm at a particular natural formation that resembles something...right in the city...although there are many others in the close but more outlaying areas as well...just not quite as well known as this one.
|
are you someplace related to these strange hills/mounds in Quangxi Province?
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...and-rice-p.jpg |
Yes :)
|
Those mounds look sort of like this weird giant yam ...but I'm just throwing that out there to think about while I keep looking
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2..._guangxi-1.jpg |
you do have an imagination...keep in mind that, the object this natural formation resembles is also the name of the formation

Elephant Trunk Hill?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Trunk_Hill.jpg |
Piled Festoon Hill?
http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...bigfestoon.jpg Located by the Li River north of Guilin, Piled Festoon Hill is so named because it has eroded on all sides exposing the strata and creating the impression of piles of silk. The hill consists of Yuyue Hill, Siwang Hill, Crane Peak and at 223 meters, the tallest Bright Moon Peak. The site has been a tourist attraction for over a 1,000 years and tourists come to enjoy the many inscriptions and Buddhist sculptures mostly dating from the Sui and Tang dynasties (518-907AD). Some of the damage to these historical relics is a legacy of more recent Chinese history, the Cultural Revolution. In recent weeks, the Chinese government's heavy-handed censorship of Google and other sites, along with allegations of the Chinese government's role in hacking large computer systems in search of "trouble makers", is another recent example of a huge pile of festoon. ...ok, I added that last sentence myself. So if you think I'm being a big dick, I offer you this place called Cappadocia in central Turkey. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...dickturkey.jpg |

^omg, hahaha
...amonkie!! You got it! You're turn now! You posted a great photo of it too...below are more photos of Guilin,China where Elephant Trunk Hill is centrally located in the city. __________________________________________ Elephant Trunk Hill is located on the western bank of Li River in Guilin located in the Guangxi region of china. The shape of the hill is just like a huge elephant drinking water from the river with its trunk, so it is called Elephant Trunk Hill. Shui Yue Cave (Water Moon Cave) is between the trunk and the legs, which is a semi-round cave penetrated by water. The inverted reflection of the cave in water plus the part above forms a full moon. This phenomenon is unique and many laudatory inscriptions were found on the wall inside the cave. Visitors can boat through the cave to the river. The most impressive is said to be the water reflection of the moon-like cave when the moonlight sprinkles over the river, hence the name 'Moon over the Water'. Another cave regarded as the eyes of the elephant lies in the hillside. It provides tourists an ideal position to enjoy the panoramic view of Guilin. On the top of the hill is a two-storey pagoda built in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) surrounded by green trees. The north seat of the second floor is inlaid with an image of Bodhisattva Puxian. The pagoda looks like a precious vase on the back of an elephant seen from distance and many beautiful legends about the pagoda. __________________________________________ Boat Trip: A boat trip from Guilin along the Lijiang River presents one of the finest excursions in China. The journey downstream to Yangshuo offers 30 miles of breathtaking scenery. One of the first points of interest is the pagoda-capped Elephant Trunk Hill, or Xiangbishan, long used as the symbol of Guilin. A little further downstream you will pass, on your left, Baotashan with a Ming Dynasty pagoda on top. East of it stands Chuanshan, or the Hill with a Hole. Then begins a series of beautiful scenes that unfold as you glide away from Guilin on your journey south. Coming close to the Erlang Gorge, a huge cliff comes into view. This is the famous "Picture Hill" that resembles horses of different colors in different positions. On the right, after passing Picture Hill, is Huangbu (Yellow Cloth) Beach. Here the river is wide and flows gently. Seven graceful peaks are likened to seven quiet young girls standing shoulder to shoulder. The fabled Xingping Wonderland begins here. Xingping is a famous, ancient town. Caishi Hill looms high in front of the town, with thick bamboo groves in the back. The cruise ends at the colorful market town of Yangshuo. __________________________________________ |
Cool! and Badnick... I'm glad i was at home when I checked this thread again. You troublemaker!
Let me toss a pebble and get lost... |
I would love to go to see that area of China one day. It's "other worldly" in a beautiful earthy way...like Shell and amonkie, I bet :)

are you at a flower show in Brisbane? I'm seeing a few flower shows going on around now, just past or coming up soon. I love orchids so this caught my eye: Queensland International Orchid Fair

|
St Stephens Cathedral?
|
Nope... but there is a crucial clue in my original location post.
|
The only connection I can find of "To Wong Foo" to Brisbane is that the author is from Brisbane and made a cameo appearance in the movie...so are you at a theater?
|
Not quite that literal... its The middle word is the biggest clue... re-arrange some o's and try again. :)

Yes. :) Toowoomba is located just outside of Brisbane and is home to one of

Flowers are more something that folks bring to this place as decoration and memorial.

I'm pretty close to the Botanic Garden, so keep trying.
If you're not careful ... you might meet a ghost or two when you get here. |

I haven't found a connection to flowers at this place, but I'll throw my guess out anyway while I keep looking:
are you at Newstead House? ....BOO! Brisbane's oldest haunted dwelling NEWSTEAD HOUSE Ghost Tours |
...i don't think she is, nick, because she says it's a place where one might take flowers as a memorial.
Must be a cemetery. Ahhhhhh....the Toowong Cemetery! |
You got it!!

Shell's on a roll!
...why does that sound to me like it needs mayo on it? Furthermore, it also reminds me that I just had two sushi rolls for lunch which set me back a cool $28!...but it was from a new local place and I had to try it - cost be damned!...though it was a couple bucks more than my favorite sushi place near home. My "Lucky Roll" was $12.95: spicy salmon, crunch tuna, & yellowtail inside; topped with black tobiko. My "Eel Dragon Roll" was $14.95: king crab, avacado, crunch inside; smoked eel outside. |

imstillthinkin but in the meantime I would like to be of service to any of our women in the audience by advising you that I recently learned that thongs might be on the wane while booty shorts might be on the rise so to speak...here's a nice pic and link
ok, since my tongue is loosened so to speak I'll add that I made more mistakes typing these last few words than I've made in the last month possibly due to a very fine, complex, dark Belgian beer I had with dinner which I will soon post with a pic in the "what the 'f..k are you eatin' right now" or similarly named thread in the food section. I spoiled it now, but the best would be if I actually left all the original typinc in palce ...funny shit http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ootyshorts.jpg |
ah...
booty shorts... still not there, though... |
