right above it! does that count? ....I almost was somewhere but last second decided it wasn't what I wanted so I'm still looking...I'm making too much of it, but I'll decide soon.

The place I was almost going to be was Greene County, Tennessee since Davy Crockett was born there, on a mountaintop in Tennessee, which happens to have been the greenest state in the land of the free. And the main reason for being here was because Fess Parker passed away just this past March 18th. He was why I had to have my own coon skin cap when I was 8 years old.

uncle phil 03-24-2010 02:42 AM

didn't we all...

BadNick 03-24-2010 07:45 AM

OK where in the world am I?

uncle phil 03-24-2010 12:10 PM

EH?

(not to be confused with the canadian linguistic catch-all word...)

BadNick 03-24-2010 12:49 PM

not EH

...I'm digging how we're expanding our posts to include fun and thought-provoking discussions and comments, eh?

uncle phil 03-24-2010 12:51 PM

NH?

(not like new hampshire, though it very well could be...)

BadNick 03-24-2010 01:04 PM

yes NH ...though I'm not admitting I'm in New Hampshire punless youp spepifipally pask

uncle phil 03-24-2010 01:13 PM

east of the mrs.?

(we'll narrow it down a bit, if you are in fact in new ham cheer...)

BadNick 03-24-2010 03:46 PM

ahh, but I'm west of the mrs.

amonkie 03-24-2010 04:09 PM

landlocked?

That lovely thing called ocean is all just relative anyway..

BadNick 03-24-2010 06:25 PM

not landlocked, though I'm not right on the shore

...yet, in a totally different sense I am landlocked.

uncle phil 03-25-2010 02:29 AM

north of 40?

(not your age, we know that...)

BadNick 03-25-2010 01:21 PM

unc, if I keep going far enough north, do I get back to south again?

yes, north of 40

...agewise, too. though who's counting?

uncle phil 03-25-2010 03:19 PM

you da ho?

(not landlocked, right?)

BadNick 03-25-2010 04:58 PM

not da ho, and yes, this part (aka state) of the sofa is not landlocked.

amonkie 03-25-2010 05:49 PM

are you feeling a little Bendy in Oregon?

BadNick 03-25-2010 05:52 PM

I got the bends for you, babe...YES I'm gon' in the ore

and I'm here visiting a superlative natural thing, so I'm hiding with it and you'll have to find it to find me.

amonkie 03-25-2010 05:59 PM

Are you hangin with 3 Fingered Jack?

It makes me wonder how he lost the other too fingers... maybe he broke the bottle on them?

uncle phil 03-26-2010 02:41 AM

the Lost Valley Nature Center?

BadNick 03-26-2010 05:15 AM

nope, neither of those

...poor Jack :( I hope he still has at least one opposable thumb < not a clue, just a sentiment

clue: if you were flying over where I am, you wouldn't see me or this superlative natural thing

amonkie 03-26-2010 05:19 AM

are you near a lake?

BadNick 03-26-2010 05:35 AM

yes ...unless I was a lot smaller, it would be hard for me not to be near a lake

about not seeing me if you're flying over, I'd like to "correct" that clue since if you had super sharp eagle eyes you might see teeny little parts of me

amonkie 03-26-2010 09:42 AM

Are you in Deschutes national Forest?

uncle phil 03-26-2010 11:37 AM

are you a monument/statue?

BadNick 03-26-2010 12:10 PM

amonkie, I'm in a national forest but not that one.

unc, I'm a natural thing in a natural habitat...a superlative natural thing. Not man-made at all. You probably know by now I have a thing for superlative things.

amonkie 03-26-2010 04:24 PM

Are you at Crater Lake?

http://cache.virtualtourist.com/2377...ional_Park.jpg

uncle phil 03-27-2010 01:40 AM

mt. hood?

BadNick 03-27-2010 11:42 AM

no and no

hmmm, more clues needed. champignon

amonkie 03-27-2010 06:00 PM

I thought for sure Crater Lake.. especially since their website even said it could only be described with superlatives! :p

Are you in Hell's Canyon, the deepest river gorge in North America?

BadNick 03-27-2010 08:18 PM

nope.

the champignon clue is crucial.

uncle phil 03-28-2010 02:13 AM

central point?

BadNick 03-28-2010 07:00 AM

Not in Central Point, OR. Though now I know that Branden Rickman, 18, winner of Make Me a Supermodel (season 2), lives there. But he's not the superlative organism I am surrounded by...literally, since this one takes up a very large area.

amonkie 03-28-2010 07:29 AM

Are you at the Armillaria in the Blue Mountains, covering 2,200 acres?
http://www.extremescience.com/images...-mushrooms.gif

Quote:

To go into the forest where this giant makes its home you would not look at it and see a huge, looming mushroom. Armillaria grows and spreads primarily underground and the sheer bulk of this organism lies in the earth, out of sight. Occasionally, during the fall season, this specimen will send up golden-colored "honey mushrooms" (see photo, above left) that are the visible evidence of its hulking mass beneath. Scientists have not yet begun to attempt to estimate the weight of this specimen of Armillaria.

BadNick 03-28-2010 07:38 AM

amonkie, that's the fungus among'us! You found me, you're up next.

This mushroom is widely considered to be the largest organism in the world:

A mushroom of this type in the Malheur National Forest in the Strawberry Mountains of eastern Oregon, U.S. was found to be the largest fungal colony in the world, spanning 8.9 square kilometres (2,200 acres) of area. This organism is estimated to be 2,400 years old. The fungus was written about in the April 2003 issue of the Canadian Journal of Forest Research. While an accurate estimate has not been made, the total mass of the colony may be as much as 605 tons. If this colony is considered a single organism, then it is the largest known organism in the world by area, and rivals the aspen grove "Pando" as the known organism with the highest living biomass. It is widely believed that if BadNick keeps eating pizza, he will soon surpass the Armillaria as the largest organism that has ever lived on Earth

amonkie 03-28-2010 07:48 AM

Man that was quite the challenge! And share some of that pizza wouldya.

Off to find a hiding spot, back in a bit.

amonkie 03-29-2010 03:33 AM

top o the mornin to ya... and where am I?

BadNick 03-29-2010 08:02 AM

on an island?

amonkie 03-29-2010 08:16 AM

I thought about it, but nope, not on an island.

BadNick 03-29-2010 08:23 AM

WH?

amonkie 03-29-2010 08:23 AM

ayup

BadNick 03-29-2010 11:39 AM

are you hiding in your sofa?

uncle phil 03-29-2010 11:56 AM

mt. washington?

amonkie 03-29-2010 12:21 PM

Not in the sofa... I decided I'd rather spend some time looking at a different body of water than lake Michigan.

BadNick 03-29-2010 12:26 PM

so are you looking at a lake somewhere?

amonkie 03-29-2010 12:30 PM

I can see at least 2 lakes.. but they are not the only bodies of water I can see.

uncle phil 03-29-2010 12:40 PM

in the maritimes?

amonkie 03-29-2010 12:41 PM

nope.. not in Canada

BadNick 03-29-2010 12:48 PM

in Asia?

amonkie 03-29-2010 12:50 PM

Last I checked Asia wasn't in the Western Hemisphere... but hey, I'm all for a new world order!

BadNick 03-29-2010 12:55 PM

oops

SH?

amonkie 03-29-2010 12:56 PM

Nada to SH... But I am really digging these clouds.

BadNick 03-29-2010 12:57 PM

are you in Central America?

amonkie 03-29-2010 12:58 PM

that would be an affirmative :)

uncle phil 03-29-2010 01:49 PM

lake titticaca?

(always wanted to "say" that - have no freakin' idea whee it is...)

amonkie 03-29-2010 03:16 PM

to pil - no.. my i should make my own lake and name it that.

I am not actually AT a lake.. but I can see these bodies of water from where I am... on a good day.

BadNick 03-29-2010 07:03 PM

are you in Panama?

uncle phil 03-30-2010 02:31 AM

costa rica?

amonkie 03-30-2010 05:12 AM

Costa Rica I am ... Actually I'm pretty glad I'm here and not in Iceland right now.. things are warming up over there!

BadNick 03-30-2010 06:19 AM

might you be in Chirripó National Park?

amonkie 03-30-2010 06:23 AM

Nope

BadNick 03-30-2010 06:29 AM

do you have your head in the clouds up on Irazú Volcano?

amonkie 03-30-2010 06:33 AM

That I Do!
http://www.costaricabestparadise.com...olcano_003.jpg

Quote:

The last time Volcán Irazú awoke was in the first half of the 1960's, when, for four years it showered the residents of Cartago and San José with ash, clogged the air with smoke, and sent glowing boulders rolling down its sides. Today, as you travel along the southern slope of the volcano to the park, the potato, onion, and cabbage fields give way to dairy farms at higher elevations. The next eruption can't be predicted with much accuracy, but currently the only activity in the crater is from fumaroles releasing toxic steam.
Good catch :) You're up!

BadNick 03-30-2010 06:37 AM

Apparently the volcano gods might not be Democrats:

"...Its most famous recent eruption began in 1963 and continued until 1965. It began on the day US President John F. Kennedy started a state visit to Costa Rica and showered the capital San José and much of the central highlands of Costa Rica with ash..."

I need to explore that part of the world pretty soon. In the meantime, I'll post back as soon as I find my next place to hide.

BadNick 03-31-2010 06:41 AM

OK where in the world am I?

Tully Mars 03-31-2010 06:45 AM

Second floor of the Empire State Blg, NY?

BadNick 03-31-2010 08:17 AM

Great guess, Tul! I'm impressed with your spontaneous intuition although I'm not anywhere in NYC. Last time I was on that 2nd floor was when I was a Boy Scout and our troop visited NYC. We went up to the tippy top of the Empire State Bldg which at that time was the tallest building in the world. This was in 1961 when both Maris and Mantle were chasing Babe Ruth's homerun record. So even more memorably, we saw a Yankees game with Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris both hitting home runs! And even though Yogi Berra didn't hit any homers that day, I'm sure he said a lot of cool stuff like "I always thought that record would stand until it was broken."

Related a bit closer to where I am this time, Yogi might have said something like: "I'm not going to buy my kids an encyclopedia. Let them walk to school like I did." That's about the only Yogi'ism I could find about shopping.

amonkie 03-31-2010 10:04 AM

Are you in a shopping capital somewhere?

BadNick 03-31-2010 10:11 AM

You're on the right track, amonkie.

amonkie 03-31-2010 10:25 AM

Are you feeling a little Donkey Kong in Hong Kong?

BadNick 03-31-2010 11:11 AM

I haven't felt a donkey in a while, but I think you're in the right neighborhood. But I'm quite certain I'm not actually in Hong Kong.

amonkie 03-31-2010 11:40 AM

Were you "Made" in Taiwan?

Tully Mars 03-31-2010 11:41 AM

Sofa?

My favorite Yogism is the one where he goes to buy a pizza and the guy behind the counter asked "How pieces do ya want it cut into?"... "Just two I'm not that hungry."

uncle phil 03-31-2010 12:01 PM

that mall up in minnesota?

BadNick 03-31-2010 07:19 PM

amonkie, Hong Kong is closer to where I am than Taiwan. I'm at a superlative place not too far from Hong Kong.

So not in or on the sofa, guys. amonkie asked about Hong Kong and I told her she was in the right neighborhood, so I'm over in that part of the world.

uncle phil 04-01-2010 02:22 AM

macao?

BadNick 04-01-2010 05:48 AM

nope. mainland China would be correct.

amonkie 04-01-2010 06:24 AM

Are you at the South China Mall in Dongguan, China?

http://www.photopumpkin.com/wp-conte.../biggest-2.jpg

BadNick 04-01-2010 09:53 AM

of course not, amonkie. I'm not sure how else to say this but

"I am not actually in China"

???

BadNick 04-01-2010 07:35 PM

ok, so I was a little too much into April Fools :) ...now that it's almost over, we can get back to our previously scheduled program.

amonkie, you found me again. Yes, I'm at the New South China Mall. I hope you brought your own credit card to shop at the largest mall in the world ...at least by some measures:

New South China Mall (simplified Chinese: 新华南MALL; pinyin: xinhuánán MALL) in Dongguan, China is the largest mall in the world based on gross leasable area, and ranked second in total area to the Dubai Mall.

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...Mall-Court.jpg

This part is "telling", it might be just you and me here, monkie: Notably, it has been 99% vacant since its 2005 opening.

The mall has seven zones modeled on international cities, nations and regions, including Amsterdam, Paris, Rome, Venice, Egypt, the Caribbean, and California. Features include an 85-foot (25 m.) replica of the Arc de Triomphe, a replica of Venice's St Mark's bell tower, a 1.3 mile (2.1 km) canal with gondolas, and an 1880 ft. long (553-meter) indoor-outdoor roller coaster.

I do like noodles: The project was spearheaded by Hu Guirong (Alex Hu), who became a billionaire in the instant noodle industry.

You're up, amonkie.

Tully Mars 04-02-2010 02:16 AM

I was wondering...

amonkie 04-02-2010 06:10 AM

Where I am?

you tell me!

Tully Mars 04-02-2010 06:12 AM

Graceland?

amonkie 04-02-2010 06:15 AM

well... I'm not there, but I'm within 500 miles of it, and in a place that is a tribute of sorts in its own right to the days gone by.

uncle phil 04-02-2010 06:52 AM

rock and roll hall of fame in cleveland, ohio?

BadNick 04-02-2010 06:59 AM

my uncle and cousins live in Cleveland...maybe you're visiting them ...though apparently Graceland is 634 miles from Cleveland so I'm not sure we/unc found amonkie yet.

So I'll go with the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville...are you there?

amonkie 04-02-2010 07:06 AM

Nope... and its not a tribute to music.

uncle phil 04-02-2010 08:09 AM

east of the mrs?

amonkie 04-02-2010 08:21 AM

yup yup

BadNick 04-02-2010 02:21 PM

are you at the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame & Museum?

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...of-Fame_HR.jpg

amonkie 04-02-2010 02:49 PM

I'm not... but where I am used to provide the energy all those lights would need.

uncle phil 04-02-2010 05:25 PM

north of 40?

amonkie 04-02-2010 06:18 PM

That would be a yes.

uncle phil 04-03-2010 01:44 AM

TVA?

amonkie 04-03-2010 10:44 AM

Not quite sure I know what TVA is?

If its Tennessee/VA border... nope.

uncle phil 04-03-2010 12:04 PM

TVA - tennessee valley authority...

amonkie 04-03-2010 12:33 PM

There's conflicting region coverage based on the maps i'm looking at.. but short answer. Not in Tennessee.

You'll find me near a fork, with a nice water view.

uncle phil 04-03-2010 12:44 PM

are you munching on a pittsburger?

amonkie 04-04-2010 04:16 AM

nope... that's more than 500 miles :)

BadNick 04-04-2010 07:39 AM

might you be at the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers in Cairo, Illinois?
