Tul, hi bud. I hope you're in a humorous good mood reflected by your guess. In case it makes you a bit happier, YES, I am on earth.

right where I am is out in the country now.
This location is famous for something recently (in the last few months) found here that goes back before "England" existed. |
stonehenge?
|
In a castle?
|
not Stonehenge and not in a castle. I'm pretty much out in the open since this important discovery was made here. They don't have counties here, so look for me in a shire.
|
worcester?
|
good sauce, but not where I am. But I am in ________shire because of the startling discovery here recently.
|
shrop?
|
nope, but that's closer to where I am than that sauce place was.
|
Wiltshire, England. because of Bluehenge?
|
not that shire, either, Tul. But I looked up Bluehenge since I didn't recall hearing that name, and it fits my clues exactly, although I am not there. I'm north of there.
The discovery at this location is not as ancient as Stonehenge or Bluehenge, but it is archeological in nature. |
hadrian's wall?
or have we been there before... |
I think we were at Hadrian's Wall, and I'm not there this time.
Clue: Anglo-Saxon |
Staffordshire?
|
el correcto, hombre! You're up next, Tully.
I'm in Staffordshire because of the discovery here of the "Staffordshire Hoard" in July 2009 The Staffordshire Hoard The Staffordshire Hoard is an unparalleled treasure find dating from Anglo-Saxon times. Both the quality and quantity of this unique treasure are remarkable. The story of how it came to be left in the Staffordshire soil is likely to be more remarkable still. The Hoard was first discovered in July 2009. The find is likely to spark decades of debate among archaeologists, historians and enthusiasts. Leslie Webster, Former Keeper, Department of Prehistory and Europe, British Museum, has already said: This is going to alter our perceptions of Anglo-Saxon England… as radically, if not more so, as the Sutton Hoo discoveries. Absolutely the equivalent of finding a new Lindisfarne Gospels or Book of Kells. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...shireHoard.jpg |
Hmm I should use my metal detector more often.
Ok find me. |
EH?
The Narberth Hoard - My Metal Detector Story by BadNick About 24 years ago, my then wife, now my ex, apparently lost a couple of her rings including a diamond engagement ring and a diamond anniversary ring, together worth way over $5000. We couldn't imagine how they were lost. I checked all the drains in the house and anyplace else we could think of, but nothing turned up. Over a year later, my daughter, who was ~7 years old at the time, came running into the house from our back yard "mommy, daddy, look what I found". It was one of the lost rings! She noticed a shiney little speck in the dirt path along one side of our yard and as she dug out the item, it was this ring. So we looked all around to see if we could find the other ring, but nothing turned up. We decided to rent a metal detector as a last ditch effort. After scanning our yard and finding some very old, large nails, we eventually got a buzz and when we dug down a little over an inch deep in the dirt, we found the other ring! This dramatic find has come to be known as the BadNick Family Hoard. Local historians, and Mr. & now ex-Ms. BadNick have theorized that years ago when Ms. BadNick was getting washed clothing out of the washing machine and ready to hang it on the clothsline in the yard, she removed both rings. Then as she carried the basket of clothes into the yard, she held the rings in her hand while grasping the laundry basket. Upon entering the yard and placing the basket down, she "forgot" that she had the rings in her hand and simply let them fall without realizing it. With rain and children and dogs playing, the rings became buried until this startling find by Baby BadNick. The End. |

I kid, you win Nick. Sorry no tix to spare. |
shoot, he'll probably pick something obscure, like shibe park...
|
Guys, please give me a little time to find a new place to go.
I've taken my boys to some of the smaller-time baseball games around here and we had a great time, the little parks are really nice, and it feels sort of more involved than MLB, the players talk to you as you sit near the front, the kids have several opportunities to get on the field for games, etc....though it's several orders of magnitude difference in typical talent. We've been to the Trenton Thunder from the American Minor League (they're the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees) and the Camden Riversharks from the Atlantic League. Plus, the beer's the same and costs less! |
Given the date I'll go with Madame Tussauds in London.
|
Nope, not Tussauds.
The place I am this time is quite different than other places we've been. |

I'm man-made. |
another one of those dudes trying to sail around the world?
|
nope, nothing like that.
But it is a special ship of high enough significance that I felt it was an appropriate choice for this game. Try to specifically guess what I am and that will nail down where I am. |
a nuclear submarine doing a "round-the-world" underwater?
(pronounced 'nuculer' for you republicans out there...) |
nope, this is a civilian surface vessel of significance and has been in the news for the last few days.

Oasis of the Seas?

uss new york?
|
Tul swoops in for the find....you got it, bud. You're up next.
The Oasis of the Seas is now the largest passenger cruise ship in the world. It was launched a few days ago, so when I started my round it was in the Baltic Sea and most recent position is just about exiting the English Channel heading out into the Atlantic. Here's the ship's site with cool pics, videos, and facts Oasis Of The Seas This is a cool site that does live tracking of ships, and this is the page for the Oasis of the Seas Live Ships Map - AIS - Vessel Traffic and Positions 1:22:45 AM http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...oftheseas1.jpg The Oasis of the Seas is a new cruise ship that is now the world's largest passenger vessel. For a sense of the scale, the ship is approximately 5 times the size of the Titanic in terms of registered tonnage. The ship was completed and turned over to Royal Caribbean on 28 October 2009. Two days later, she departed Finland for the United States. While exiting the Baltic Sea, the vessel passed underneath the Great Belt Fixed Link in Denmark on 1 November 2009. The bridge has a clearance of 65 metres (213 ft) above the water; Oasis normally has an air draft of 72 metres (236 ft). The passage under the bridge was possible due to retraction of the telescoping funnels, and an additional 30 centimetres (12 in) was gained by the squat effect whereby vessels travelling at speed in a shallow channel will be drawn deeper into the water. Approaching the bridge at 20 knots (37 km/h; 23 mph), the ship passed under it with less than 2 feet (0.61 m) of clearance. Oasis stopped briefly in the Solent to disembark 300 shipyard workers, on the way to her intended home port of Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The ship is expected to arrive in Florida November 11, where tropical plants will be installed prior to her debut. Amenities Oasis of the Seas will offer passengers features such as two-story loft suites and luxury suites measuring 1,600 sq ft (150 m2) with balconies overlooking the sea or promenades. The ship features a zip-line, a casino, a mini-golf course, four swimming pools, volleyball and basketball courts, theme parks and nurseries for children. |
