BadNick 04-04-2010 07:54 PM

Back to the papyrus board.

monkie, are you somewhere related to coal mining?

amonkie 04-04-2010 08:16 PM

Badnick - you're absolutely on the right track.

uncle phil 04-05-2010 02:10 AM

are you in kentucky?

amonkie 04-05-2010 03:56 AM

Yes.

uncle phil 04-05-2010 04:13 AM

are you in frankfort?

amonkie 04-05-2010 05:19 AM

Nope, not frankfort.

BadNick 04-05-2010 06:22 AM

Me and Bobby McGee used to share the secrets of our souls in Kentucky coal mines. I'm sure she'd know where you are, but somewhere near Salinas I let her slip away so we'll have to keep guessing.

amonkie, I'm having a hard time finding anyplace in Kentucky that is north of the 40. Would you please check and confirm that fact? If you've been kidnapped by aliens, please ignore my request.

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...edbyaliens.jpg

amonkie 04-05-2010 06:25 AM

Well, on all my maps the 40 runs through TN. So, technically all of KY is north of the 40.

BadNick 04-05-2010 06:32 AM

which 40 are we talking about?

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...udelongiUS.gif

EDIT: OOPS, NOW I SEE YOU MUST MEAN HIGHWAY 40 WHICH RUNS THROUGH KNOXVILLE AND NASHVILLE.

OK, as you were and I'll keep searching.

amonkie 04-05-2010 06:39 AM

hahaha :) now YOUR confusion makes sense.

That's monkey sense for ya!

uncle phil 04-05-2010 10:14 AM

covington?

amonkie 04-05-2010 10:23 AM

Not in Covington.

If you find some falls... and take a little trip from there, you'll be pretty close to where I am.

uncle phil 04-05-2010 12:59 PM

laurel river dam?

amonkie 04-05-2010 06:23 PM

Nope.. I'm feeling more like i'm in the boonies.

BadNick 04-05-2010 07:01 PM

Are you at the Kentucky Coal Mining Museum's Portal No. 31 underground mine?

you mean like Daniel Boone National Forest?

amonkie 04-06-2010 03:49 AM

Badnick - not in mine 31 - but your correct guess of the clue above will definitely get you closer to the mine I AM at.

BadNick 04-06-2010 10:26 AM

are you actually in the Daniel Boone National Forest?

amonkie 04-06-2010 11:11 AM

Yes I am.

BadNick 04-06-2010 11:20 AM

sorry if this makes you hunt around, but are you in the Cumberland District?

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...-06own-map.jpg

amonkie 04-06-2010 11:31 AM

I'm a lot closer to Graceland than the cumberland district would put me... In fact if I was a bird I could probably see Tennessee.

uncle phil 04-06-2010 12:32 PM

are you in the redbird ranger district?

amonkie 04-06-2010 06:50 PM

Not in Redbird....

And I definitely don't see London.. or France.. or Badnick's Underpants!

BadNick 04-08-2010 12:02 PM

I'd like to just say that I was not scared-off or intimidated by amonkie mentioning my underpants. I was simply busy with an important business client and didn't have much free searching time...though we did manage to polish off some good food and a couple bottles of cabernet.

OK, back at the ranch: 'monkie, so you must be in the Stearns District of the park?

amonkie 04-08-2010 03:37 PM

You would be correct!

and I hear that guys with Batman on their underpants are always cooler anyways, so you got nothing to worry aboot.

uncle phil 04-09-2010 03:33 AM

Natural Arch Scenic Area?

amonkie 04-09-2010 04:20 AM

Badnick was on the right track earlier - I am in a mine in the Stearns ranger district.

uncle phil 04-09-2010 04:29 AM

barren fork?

amonkie 04-09-2010 04:42 AM

nope

BadNick 04-09-2010 05:44 AM

edit: ok, I wasn't paying attention so skip this first guess that unc already tried but I got so involved in my search I forgot!

are you at the Barren Fork Coal Mining Camp?

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Barren Fork Coal Camp was a major coal mining community in the early 1900s. Now part of the Daniel Boone National Forest, Barren Fork includes trails, horse camp and historic and cultural experiences to visitors.

are you at Barthell Coal Mining Camp? ...and how did you know about my Batman underwear!?

Dating back to 1902, Barthell Coal Mining Camp was the first coal camp established in the region by the Stearns Coal and Lumber Company. After being abandoned as an operational coal mining camp, it was purchased by the Koger family who restored the camp to the look and feel it held in the early 1900s period. Today, visitors can tour into the mine, eat in the Coal Miner's diner, or even rent one of the miner's cabins.

amonkie 04-09-2010 05:45 AM

Nope again to Barren Fork - but I am near a river bearing Fork in its name...

BadNick 04-09-2010 05:50 AM

oops, see above that I edited as you were replying to my wrongness.

amonkie 04-09-2010 05:53 AM

Badnick - I have superpowers!

And i'm not at Barthell, but you are very very close. When I'm feeling a little blue.. this place doesn't do much to cheer me up, that's for sure.

uncle phil 04-09-2010 09:50 AM

churchill downs?

amonkie 04-10-2010 04:55 AM

True... Churchill downs could qualify as a money mine. But Nope, I'm out in the wilderness at this mine.

Blue Heron Mining Community/Camp?

amonkie 04-10-2010 04:27 PM

That would be correct!

http://www.usatravelideas.com/images...D10274C55B.jpg

Quote:

ALSO known as Mine 18, Blue Heron was a Stearns Coal & Lumber Company-owned coal mining camp supported by Mine 18. It is located on SH 742, nine miles southwest of Stearns at the west end of Mine 18 Road, in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.

It was in operation from 1937 through December 1962. At its peak it employed 300 miners, and was carved into the side of a mountain overlooking the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River. The camp consisted of wooden homes, a store, church and school. The buildings have been restored and the site is operated as a concession in the Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area.

When Blue Heron was abandoned in 1962, some structures were removed and others were left to the elements, which rapidly took their toll. In the 1980s, the coal camp was rebuilt as an outdoor museum to show what the town looked like at its prime. The rebuilt structures are not recreations of the original buildings, but open shells called "ghost structures," which were built where the originals once stood. They were also built as close as possible to the originals in size and orientation. Inside each of these coverings, an aspect of life in the community is showcased. The National Park Service (NPS) has installed audio programs along with the static displays, creating a true museum to old King Coal.

BadNick 04-11-2010 07:41 AM

OK, I'll come up with a new place later today.

BadNick 04-11-2010 10:23 AM

ok, where in the world am I? sssshhhhhh. don't make any noise

BadNick 04-12-2010 05:49 PM

I guess I was so quiet nobody heard me? sssshhhhhh

amonkie 04-12-2010 06:07 PM

are you in a place that is avalanche prone?

BadNick 04-12-2010 06:16 PM

not at all. Just quiet.

BadNick 04-12-2010 07:07 PM

yes

amonkie 04-12-2010 09:33 PM

Are you in the Library of Congress, the largest library in the world?

Lots of sexy hot librarians to make sure its "quiet".

monkie, I hope you are not making fun of librarians!!! I love librarians, and libraries.

I'm sure the stereotypical images are usually not accurate. When I retire I am seriously considering volunteering to be a librarian, so one day I may have to retract what I just said.

But no, I am not in a library.

unc, I've been to Lake Placid, NY...very nice place. Never been to the one in FL and I'm not there now.

Keep in mind my predilection for superlatives. Like awesome librarians, for example.

uncle phil 04-13-2010 11:55 AM

river city, iowa?

Tully Mars 04-13-2010 12:05 PM

Cemetery?

BadNick 04-13-2010 04:52 PM

amonkie 04-13-2010 10:22 PM

are you in Orfield Lab's floating room, labeled by Guinness as the Quietest Place on earth?

http://media.audiojunkies.com/quiete...-chamber-1.jpg

uncle phil 04-14-2010 02:29 AM

are you perhaps in the northern hemisphere of the planet earth?

BadNick 04-15-2010 10:33 AM

well now we have two "yes" 's

but amonkie found me hiding in this very quiet anechoic chamber....I like the "chamber" part best, possibly due to my vampire heritage.

go amo, you're up.

Where am I?

uncle phil 04-16-2010 02:11 AM

new harmony, indiana?

amonkie 04-16-2010 05:01 AM

Got the right country, but not the right state.

I'm feeling a little fuzzy since I've been here... must be the surroundings!

BadNick 04-16-2010 08:04 AM

are you in Santa Rosa, CA at the 32nd Annual Harmony Festival? If I was there I'd be looking forward to hearing Slightly Stoopid as well as Swami Beyondananda. I also usually participate in the naked Techno Tribal dancing.

amonkie 04-16-2010 08:45 AM

Nope... wrong coast.

And the place I am is a little more permanent, and with the naked Techno tribal dancing I'm in a good place once it gets cold!

uncle phil 04-16-2010 04:40 PM

BadNick 04-16-2010 07:15 PM

Badnick you are so close.

Right idea, wrong animal. Harmony is part of this farm's name.

BadNick 04-18-2010 03:30 PM

So I've been looking for an alpaca farm with "harmony" in the name...no luck in R.I., but I'm having fun searching around and finding new things. Will report back when I find something that fits your clues.

uncle phil 04-18-2010 03:34 PM

amonkie 04-18-2010 06:08 PM
