east of mrs?
you're on a roll, unc. Keep this up and I suspect you'll win ...in spite of all the competition
north of 40?
not this time, my dear mr. explorer
landlocked state?
not bordering on an ocean but I can easily float over to the ocean
tennessee?
not with my eyes closed...no
kentucky?
nope, not in the home of the Derby and the giant baseball bats.
we(s)t, virginia?
No we we's, t Virginia.
If you take that magnet out of your pocket, hang it on a very delicate string, and it might point you this way. |
(.)hi(.)?
Lindy, wondering how I am to interpret that, I'll say yes, great guess!
within 50 miles of columbus?
oops....I'm not in Ohio. I misinterpreted Lindy's clue. Although now that unc made the Ohio connection for me, I admit to being dumb with that reply.
illinois?
no nois, it's pretty quiet here right now
that leaves indiana...
i would suggest a nudist colony in indiana, but they're all north of 40, as i recall... are you east of I-65? |
Not in Indiana, Kemo Sabe.
Perhaps that "landlocked" clue has you up a creek without a paddle? The state I'm in does not have an oceanic coast. |
sorry for the coastal presumption...
alabama? |
no banjo on my knee. Sorry.
louisiana?
(that part east of the mrs.) |
no crawdads around here, unc. Not Louisiana. Go north, young man, go north.
that DOES leave western mississippi...
no mrs. around here, either.
unc, you need a better magnifying glass about that old 40
sorry nick, i just don't see any state that hasn't already been nixed...
clue: I'm in Pennsylvania
within 17 minutes of the border...
ok, east of I-81? |
yes, east of 81
west of the cream cheese?
nope, right in it. I'm in a famous man-made structure but it's not a building or bridge.
the rocky statue?
nope, not a statue, not a monument of any sort.
strawberry bridge?

This famous structure used to move pretty fast. |
i'm having a mental impasse with structures which are not buildings, bridges, statues or monuments...
hows about wells fargo center, home of the flyers? |
great guess, unc and a good one for Cream Cheese Headquarters, but not correct.
I just looked up "structures" and I think I was a bit hasty in saying I'm in/at a structure since that seems to mean "man-made object permanently fixed to Earth's surface or in its orbit" and this is neither of those...though some day we'll probably be able to shoot it into orbit and make it into a space station. It used to move pretty damn fast but now it's just sitting here rusting which is why I suggested you get that little magnet out of your pocket. |
are you a railroad car?
not a railroad car of any kind. Try a different mode of transportation.
a boat?
yep
the Olympia?
She's a gem of the ocean, but I'm not on the Olympia. This ship is of more recent vintage and not intended primarily for military purposes. If you check every post I ever made at TFP, you'll find that i mentioned this baby in the past.
gazela?
not the gazela. Head down river.
the s. s. untied states?
you found me unc, you're up.
Ever since I was a little kid I was very impressed by and attracted to the S.S. United States. I built a couple models of it when I was quite young. What attracted me first was the sleek design and colors scheme. Then when I learned that it was the fastest ship to ever cross the Atlantic, I was permanently in love. Here it is with it's sister ship, the S.S. America http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...nd_America.jpg A shot of it departing port back in 1956: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...tates_1956.jpg http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...I/Ssunited.jpg Now it sits at a Philadelphia pier, almost certainly too far deteriorated to ever be a functional ship again. But there's still hope it can be financed into a museum or maybe even a docked casino type function. While that's not a glorious as it deserves, it's better than scraping it. Here's a photo I took myself when I drove down there with my kid to show it to him: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...adelphia-1.jpg |
nick, we're leaving for cancun wednesday so i probably shouldn't start something now. why don't you snag tully or jewels or somebody to take over. we'll be back on the 24th...
I hope you & aunti phil have great weather and a great time. I'll see what I can drum up while you're gone.
The next person who shows up in here and would like to go hide, just post and we'll try to find you:
I've never played this before, but I'll try.
I'm hiding. Sure does look cold outside. Lindy |
Somewhere in Canada?
Nope, not Canada. Good guess. Looks like snow as far as the eye can see.
Lindy |
North of lat 66? (arctic circle)
somewhere in the Western Hemisphere? (aka WH)

are you in the U.S.?
(aka "on the sofa" re: u s o f a) Btw, Lindy, thanks for being so gamely and taking a turn. |
Yes, in the U.S.
east of the Mrs.?
(i.e., Mississippi River?) |
N of 40?????
Are you in a state that borders on Canada?
I imagine it might be hard to see snow as far as the eye can see below the 40, but not impossible. You can see 40 deg latitute line here: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ngitudeMap.gif |

Here's a link to the photo I put up when I visited it in the middle of July, 2008. Temp about 90° Hope the link works. http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/tilted-...ml#post2814682 With my 1981 AMC Eagle. It sure does look cold. Lindy |
Lindy-Link works and that's a real cool pic...though I can feel the searing heat. I wonder what that large shadow on the lower right is from?
OK...I guess I'm up next so give me a bit to figure out a new place to hide. If anybody drops in before I post again and wishes to take a turn hiding, just say the word and we'll try to find you. |

OK, where in the world am I this time?
Are you on the top of the planet?
I must be because when I look straight up I only see the sky. But it's definitely not cold here.
"Our" side of the planet?
no
And not just because I feel like any part of this planet is as much mine as a planet circling Alpha Librae, the second brightest star in the constellation Libra, which in endearing human terms has also been called Zubenelgenubi, from Arabic الزبن الجنوبي (al-zuban al-janūbiyy), meaning "southern claw", and alternate names Kiffa Australis and Elkhiffa Australis, partial Latin translations of Arabic al-kiffah al-janūbiyy, another name used in ye olde astronomy texts was Lanx Australis so no. |
So...somewhere in the Middle East?
in that part of the world, but not the "Middle East"
If I took flight toward you from the Island of Malta, would my heading be somewhere between 180° and 270°?
Just to make sure my compass bearings are correct, I'll say "no" if you mean 180 as heading due south and 270 heading due west from Malta. So if that, no.
Are you in eastern Europe?
I hate to say "no" to you again, Ocm?, but no.
I'm just guessing - "no" is tantalizing.
Are you in one of the 'stans? |
no-go-istan...nope
I might suggest you go back to visit Lindy in Malta and lube your bearings a bit |
When not west or south, but in the neighborhood of the middle east...
Are you in Greece? |
just about due south of there
Benghazi?
I'm less than 100 miles from Benghazi at an archeologically important site that you will have to name.
Did you leave a big visual in ABC?
yes :) I'm amazed at how interconnected our world is.
absolutely. While we're sipping the refreshment, let's lay back, kick up our feet, and enjoy this place for a while. I hear a cricket chirping...I'm gonna try to find it.
Maybe. It looks sort of familiar. Let it go and when it makes its chirp maybe we can tell if that was the one.
