are you in gay paree?

Are you south of a line from Strasbourg to Nantes? |
oh, you don't have to apologize, Lindy! North of that line because as unc has so astutely discovered, I'm in gay Paree.
I'm at a specific location in Paris that had an unusual mystical effect on me when I was there and the place is usually associated with a historically important person. |

|
did marie antoinette lose her head there?
|
Lindy, this place is not associated with a 20th century person.
unc, no. Sadly Marie was monarchial at a time in France when that was no longer popular :( The person who is associated with the place I am came after Marie. |
did mr. picasso ever paint there?
|
Is the person who is associated with the place a female person?
|
unc, I am not aware of Picasso ever painting at this place. I just searched to check on that question and didn't find anything.
Lindy, the person associated with this place is a male. |
related to mr. deGaulle?
|
nope, not Mr. De Gaulle...this was before his time.
|
the richelieu library?
|
Are you at the tomb of Napoleon Bonaparte?
|
Are you north of the river?
|
sorry, Ocm?, but I just realized that Lindy found me an hour before you posted.
You're up next, Lindy...go hide! Not because I have any special reverence for Napoleon, but to me his tomb had a mystical aura about it. There have been a few other tombs that affected me that way, so maybe I'll go to one of those later in this game. Besides being the tomb of such a historically significant person, the design of Napoleon's tomb is burial high-art. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2..._Bonaparte.jpg Talk about high art, high on the ceiling of the dome over Napoleon's tomb are murals which always remind me of the ones my dad painted high up on church domes and ceilings. This is over Napoleon's tomb: http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...f_Napoleon.jpg An interesting fact many people don't appreciate is how the visual perspective of what's painted so high above the viewer and on a curved wall has to be distorted by the artist in certain ways so that it looks right from the ground...my dad used to explain that to me when I climbed up the high scaffolds to watch him paint. He painted murals in most churches and cathedrals around here, and up and down the east coast of the U.S. I guess I'll throw in a couple bonus pics, one of St. Monica's Church in Philadelphia after it totally burned down. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...Churchfire.jpg This presented a rare opportunity for my dad to design and paint the murals for the entire inside of the church. The parish wanted a bright, more modern style than some of the "more traditional" styles seen in churches, so this is what my dad came up with on the front area of the church...bright colors and themes carry throughout the church and are quite striking when you first walk in http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...casChurch2.jpg |

Sorry this reply was so long in coming. Nick, your turn. Lindy |
Lindy, I love that!
ps: I have a nice old brass trumpet and a Fender Mustang under my bed. Tonight I'll try to have a dream of them coming out and marching around my bed playing John Phillip Souza's version of "When the saints come marching in..." as I dance around with a beautiful Hollywood actress, or my wife, whoever shows up in my dream first. I'll find a new place soon.... |
are you in a pickle?
|
That would comprise the whole world, uncle phil.
Are you north of the equator? |
or maybe east of jesus?
we might just find him before he knows where he's at... |
funny, I was just thinking that. If you keep guessing, and I keep saying "no" I wonder where I would eventually be narrowed down to? But I am thinking of a place as hard as I can. Soon.

|
not bia game or big game
If the next couple guesses don't find me I'll give you more clues. |
for the record, it is Bia Game Production Reserve, but i digress...
Lake Volta? |
Are you standing on the Akosombo Dam, which forms the superlatively largest (by surface area) man-made reservoir in the world?
|
unc, I love records! And I thank you for that follow up since otherwise I would never have known there was such a place as Bia Game Production Reserve, where I am not.
Lake Volta would be a great clue! However, Lindy the Sleuth has found me, again! Yes I am standing on Akosombo Dam and thank you for pointing out its superlative character. You're up again, Lindy. In case you're wondering why I'm not in this photo, it was taken just as I fell off the back side of the dam. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ombo_Dam-1.jpg Here's some facts and pics of Akosombo Dam which you can peruse until Lindy's next post. The Akosombo Dam (also referred to as the Akosombo Hydroelectric Project) is a hydroelectric dam of the Volta River in southeastern Ghana in the Akosombo gorge and part of the Volta River Authority. The construction of the dam flooded part of the Volta River Basin, and the subsequent creation of Lake Volta. Lake Volta is the world's largest man-made lake, covering 8,502 square kilometres (3,283 sq mi), which is 3.6% of Ghana's land area. http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...kosombodam.png The primary purpose of the Akosombo Dam was to provide electricity for the aluminum industry. The Akosombo Dam was called "the largest single investment in the economic development plans of Ghana." Its original electrical output was 912 MWe, which was upgraded to 1,020 MW in a retrofit project that was completed in 2006. The flooding that created the Lake Volta reservoir displaced many people and had a significant impact on the environment. |
Treading water isn't all it's cracked up to be?
|
words of wisdom
Upon my initial investigation, this dam project seems to be nothing but full of positive benefits. But looking a bit deeper starts to show how even the seemingly obvious benefits might end up causing more harm than good. The jury is still out on this project A still good rule of thumb is "don't fuck with Mother Nature" |
