Starting to hate Newegg...

I sent back the 3rd video card in a row to them last week, got a mail today that said we are now out of that card, so we'll refund your money.

Now I gotta find another card or place to get one so I can get this stupid computer running top notch again.

Where do ya'll buy video cards that accepts paypal?

Anyways, why do you need to use PayPal?

You could try zipzoomfly.com, they are another good place, but I dont know if they take PayPal...

Sorry for your bad luck, but nobody is better than Newegg, and I refuse to buy from anywhere else.

oh man, let me tell you my bad experience with newegg:
I needed a new modem for my parent's computer so who do I order it from?...the best site ever of course (newegg). I even pay the extra 2 bucks to rush my order so I can get the modem installed before my parents leave for the week (that way they wouldn't worry all week about their computer). I get my package amazingly fast, so that was nice, but then I open it up to find the wrong one...they sent me a pcmcia one instead. I call and the nice young lady just says we'll ship out the right one immediately and you just go ahead and keep the one you got. I say thank you very much.

5 days later, it hasn't come, I haven't gotten any emails, and there's no info on my newegg account. I call and the guy told me that now I have to send the other modem back first....would've been nice to get the memo ASS!! I told him I wasn't gonna pay to ship it back so he said he'd credit my card $7 to pay for it. I say fine. I go ahead and ship it back even though I haven't gotten the $7 yet.

6 or 7 days go by and I get the right modem. I check my card and there was no $7 credited to it. So I call again to get my freaking $7. Now the guy tells me I have to show them the receipt of shipment to get my money WTF!?!?! I told him I don't have it because I was told I would be credited $7. Why the hell would I keep the receipt if I thought I was already reimbursed for it? Finally he credits $7 to my account while confirming that there never was the original $7 credited to my account. But I wasn't getting my 2 bucks for rush ordering back...bastards.

Basically I'm pissed at this point, so I send an email to their customer service explaining how I was lied to twice. I said it's likely I'll never buy from them again. I expected a good apology as no business wants to lose a customer. The message I got back was this:
They said that Desire (the girl that first told me to keep the modem) was informed that she should've asked me to send the modem back.
They said nothing about the guy that said he'd credit my account and didn't.
As for me not likely buying from them again, they simply said "We're sorry you feel that way". That's something you say when you don't give a crap about the person. There was no "sorry for your inconveniance", only "we're sorry you feel that way".

Well I haven't bought anything from them since. I've been using sites like pricewatch.com and fatwallet.com to get better deals anyway. So yeah, i'd look through those sites. Pricewatch.com recently put in a review system so you can see which sites are not trustworthy. If you know exactly what card you want, go to fatwallet.com and search for it in the forums to see if there's any rebate deals. If not, go to pricegrabber.com and check there....make sure to check after shipping is included.
I think that newegg has just gotten too big for its own good now.

yatzr, that's a shocking story, and I certainly don't think it's the norm. As for Irishsean, newegg doesn't have control over the quality of the products they sell; it's one of the great things about newegg that they sell EVERYTHING: the good and the bad. If you buy a crappy brand to save $10-$20, then I wouldn't be suprised if you have problems. The fact that they "ran out" of stock in that card is probably evidence that they found out they got a bad lot of those cards or something, and have RMAed the whole set.

Yep, they're fast (when things work) but then their dropship formula works for many vendors these days. They are not impressive at handling problems. As with any reseller, some of their prices aren't competitive, shipping can be stupid high (add RAM and a couple fans and cry), and while they have a good catalog for ideas they often don't carry something I need. I've used them much less than I used to this past year, though their catalog is handy.

I've had better service from all of these:
Zipzoomfly -newegg fast
excaliberpc - fast
mwave
monarchcomputer
dealsonic
a couple others off pricewatch

It's a tossup anyway. Once you get stuck on one vendor you pay for it.

NewEgg isn't famous for the quality of their products (they're not really NewEgg's products...you can't exactly "test" a retail or OEM product). What NewEgg IS famous for is their RMA policy and shipping/customer service. Most of the Internet reseller stores out there do not have an RMA policy. Yes, that means that if you get a defective product, you CANNOT have it refunded.

NewEgg is trustworthy. I've did probably $3500-$4000 worth of business with them in the past few years, and I've admittedly sent back at least $2000 worth because of defects. The point? I actually got my money back...and in some cases with no restocking fee.

Ordering PC parts online is a gamble -- they have a high percentage of coming fucked up. I simply go with the companies that DO refund your money in a timely manner. NewEgg is the best in this department.

A few other excellent sites are www.xoxide.com and www.directron.com .

I've been buying only name brand parts from them. I even tried multiple brands, just discouraging to get so many bad cards in a row.

I just ordered a BFG 6800OC from outpost.com.

I'm not sure about the rest of you, but I always buy my pc stuff at retail stores like best buy, circuitcity, etc. Sometimes they have really good deals.

Not when comparing their deals to newegg prices. I have never bought a single PC part/product from a reatil store.

Newegg is rarely the best deal. Their prices can regularly be beat by 10-20%. They just have lots of things in one place with a nice catalog. It's very attractive when you're still weeding out parts. If you know the parts it's time to check the prices from Newegg and others in this thread. We build many business and personal systems each year and have learned they all go in phases of goodness/badness, and each part may have widely varying prices between the vendors. Best for the pocketbook not to be blinded by vendor loyalty that doesn't involve quid pro quo.

Crazy

The only places I've ordered any parts from ( which is all parts for 2 whole computers ) is
tigerdirect.com
newegg.com
xoxide.com

Fortunately, I've had no problems with any of the products, so I haven't really had to deal with RMA/Tech support, etc. Out of them all, newegg seems to always be the cheapest.

Those are three very different shops. I'd expect the egg to do better than the others most of the time but tigerdirect has their moments. Much closer to the egg would be zipzoomfly and they trade blows, with the egg having the better catalog. Check others above.

Again, you can't expect one shop to always beat the others. Sales on single items can blow any favorite out of the water. (especially with free vs. artificially huge shipping costs) Then try the next part and the situation reverses. Open another browser window or two and it can easily mean $100/system.

If you want more savings potential order from the pricewatch lists. Some of those will save you bunches, other times they create headaches. It takes more caution and effort than buying from the established discounters.

I've lost some patience with the basement suppliers other than using them as a price check. Most of the time I open 3-4 vendor windows & fill each cart with the same main parts. Then remove all but the lowest priced of each item. Only takes a couple minutes. If there's not much difference I'll stick with one cart, but it's usually two or three depending on the number of unusual pieces.

I've ordered from Newegg for two years now and never had any trouble at all. I've also told others about them, and those people have never had trouble. A couple people have received bad RAM or motherboards, but that wasn't Newegg's fault. Besides, they RMA'd them and got new parts within days. Also, their prices may not be the absolute lowest, but about half of their product line has free shipping.

Other places I use regularly:

www.directron.com
www.1coolpc.com
www.frozencpu.com
www.jab-tech.com
www.coolerguys.com

I've never had trouble with any of these places, although I've heard the occasionally grievances with all of them.

I've been nothing but happy with Newegg. I've been using them for several years and while their prices aren't always the very lowest of online shops, I've always found their prices to be much better then buying at a local retail shop.
Every item I've ordered from Newegg has shipped ontime and I've received it on or before the estimated delivery date from UPS. I have never had to return an item to them.
Call me crazy, but any place that allows you to return an item 2 times and on the 3rd time they tell you that they don't have the item in stock and refunds your money is a good company to do business with.

Waiting a week in between recieving each card, and having to pay shipping to get it back to them is the downside to newegg.
