That's really funny because when I was growing up my parents had a dog named Shadow and I sometimes find myself calling Gus that.

That's a beautiful dog you've got there, I like the little white goatee he has. :)

OMG, It's my DREAM thread!!!!
Ok, well, at this time I don't have any really good pictures of all of my babies, but I do have a few...
The one's I have are the one of Echo (silver/white) and Infiniti (dark sable/brown) doing a trick for treats, which is displayed in "Post your pic here" thread; one of myself and Jester in "Post yourself right effin now!" that is a bit washed out.

However, here is another I have of one who doesn't live with me, but I still love...her name is Symphony - a ferret I bought for my friend & former roommate... I will take more pics today and post them for you all to see, if anyone is interested. :) Enjoy. :)

irseg 03-04-2005 06:46 PM

On a sadder note, my 14 year old beagle died today.

The amazing part was how quickly her health declined. 4 days ago everything was apparently A-OK. 3 days ago she seemed more lethargic than normal, lost her appetite, and coughed quite a bit. 2 days ago she was back to acting pretty much like her normal talkative self (if you've been around beagles you'll know how much they like to vocalize) and started eating a little bit again, so I figured she had recovered from whatever it was. Then yesterday things took a major turn for the worse. I noticed she was breathing very rapidly and looked to be uncomfortable. Late last night she slinked off into the closet of a bedroom I never use. Definitely not a good sign, since dogs generally go into seclusion when they're ready to die. I coaxed her out, and spent some time just enjoying her company.

I came home from work today to check up on her and make an appointment with a veternarian if she wasn't doing any better. I found her in a pile of my dirty clothes (one of her favorite places to sleep). My first thought was "cool, she seems to be doing better, she's not breathing really fast now.", soon followed by "uh oh...she's not breathing AT ALL." :(

I played with her big floppy ears one last time before wrapping her up in a blanket and putting her in a box, pending burial in my back yard tomorrow. Sure was weird picking up what I had known for the last 14 years as a warm, crazy, animated dog--since this time she was a cold stiff corpse.

It's amazing how some dumb animal can become such a significant part of your life. And given a dog's average life span it's pretty much guaranteed you'll have to deal with its departure. Doesn't make it any more pleasant, though.

I think I'm going to spend a month or so remembering that goofy beagle, and enjoying not having to buy pet food, taking her outside to pee every few hours, and worrying about scaring the bejeezus out of her when I crank up my stereo. Then I'm sure I'll be scouting out another pet, because they're just too fun to not have.

Grasshopper Green 03-04-2005 07:20 PM

Awwww, I'm sorry irseg :( It's definitely sad when pets die, they become a part of the family, too.

I've been there. We lost a female cocker like that once. I almost lost my puppy a while back to Parvo...he kept trying to hide out to die. I wouldn't let him though. I kept dragging him out and keeping him awake and those nights he slept in my room. He puked in various corners of it and I'd wake up everytime I'd heard it and kept a very watchful eye on him so I wouldn't lose him. Also waking him up just to be sure, and holding him in my lap and just kinda petting and loving him..and givin him little kisses on top of his head. Thankfully we were able to get him to the vet on time and it cost us like 200 dollars. Some of the best 200 we've ever spent though. Now even though I know dogs don't have a very good memory I'd swear he remembers how I cared for him..Cause ever since then he just loves me to death. I feel for you :(. Good luck finding a new dog. Hope it's just as great as your previous one.

Asta!!

Here's Heidi - she was the most messed-up, scrawny stray cat at the pound but we fell in love with her somehow. When we brought her home she had sores all over, an upper respiratory infection, ear mites, was about 2 pounds underweight (for a whopping 7-pound cat that's a lot) and was shaved where they had spayed her and cleaned up some abcesses. She's a little princess now though! :D

Squishor 03-06-2005 01:16 PM

dogzilla 03-06-2005 03:05 PM

This is our cat Creamsicle. He's about 7 years old and is a pretty big cat, somewhere around 15 lbs. He spends a lot of his time sprawled out on his back waiting for somebody to pay attention to him. One of the reasons my wife likes him is because he sort of matches the color of our carpet.

I'm not sure i believe in the size of the feet theory when dogs are puppy's.

When i got my pup at 3 months old (he's now between 6 & 7 months) his paws were huge, Everybody including myself were saying he'd be an easy 100 pounds full grown. Right now he's alittle over 50 pounds and the vet said he won't be getting much bigger..I was alittle dissapointed when my vet told me that, I wanted my pup to be bigger than what he is..But i still love him :)

jhkayakr 03-17-2005 02:15 PM

50 lbs is not that small a dog. My dog was 6 pounds when I got him with huge paws and now about 108 lbs. That pup from above is a lab and they can get pretty big. What kind of dog is it? Just curious.

My gf and I babysat these two trouble makers when we moved last month - Ty and Tequilla (guess which is which :))
This is the best shot I could get with them together - later in the day when they were too tired to run around getting into boxes and such.

And here's Ty (in case you didn't bother guessing) sleeping.
Freakin' adorable if you ask me...

Great to see the family, GiantDemon! :) Love how they all have their own personality which shines through in the pictures..

I gotta post some pics of my cat Gucci as soon as I get them on my comp. Seeing all these pets makes me excited when me and my gf go to get Gucci a pet of his own. Either a dog or another kitten, probly the latter tho since we don't have a tremendous amount of time to train a dog.

I recently got a digicam..

After charging it up, it was nighttime by the time I got to use it. My cat was the only thing around that was interesting to shoot pics of w/ the new digicam..

Here's Frank (Sir Franklin Theodore Fuzzynuts):

Amazing Latch, Your cat has almost perfect carpet camouflage.

The last pic turned out pretty good, I'd say.

our friends' dog had puppies, 9 of 13 survived.
so we finally got to go play with them.
they're now 8 weeks old & rapidly being claimed for adoption.

the puppies were not easy for me to get snaps of!
they move about so quickly, i am slow & my camera has a 3 second delay.
