Wet-tail is a common infection that small rodents can contract very easily. It is the equivalent of something like dysentery. The animal will get a severe case of diarrhea and become dehydrated. Dehydration is very serious in hamsters because they are so tiny.

Most of the time it is fatal.

I just copied and pasted :D.

Nice cockatiel man! Mine died a while ago but I remember that crazy bastard woke me up first thing sunrise every single morning with its singing. I miss him though, every time I opened the cage he would put his head down and move his little "mohawk" out of the way so I would pet his head. He would sit there for hours if he could while I petted him, he loved nothing more.

Grasshopper Green 01-13-2005 06:42 PM

My birds don't really make much noise in the mornings, but I used to have some parakeets that would start chirping to each other as soon as the sun starting coming in through the windows, and nothing would shut them up. My other cockatiel loves to be pet on the head, she's a lot more lovable than the yellow one is. But I love them both to pieces!

Here's my 5 month old German Sheppard Boarder Collie Cross

His names Winston

I almost lost him a couple weeks ago, He got ahold of some prescription pills that were on a dresser in another room and ate them all, Had to rush him to emergency vet to get his stomach pumped.

I can only come up with one way that he got them off the dresser, He was on the bed reached to the dresser and used his paw to keep himself stable and snatched them. The dresser is to high for him even if he was standing on his hind legs.

It almost scares me how smart he is.

Yes yes..good to see you too flyman.

You got a nice lookin puppy too, I also like your horse Legacy..Very nice.

Shpoop 01-25-2005 04:21 PM

ooh i love german shepherds. as best we can tell, mines a mix of one too. i always admired them soo much, and wanted one but my mom said no way in hell. she thought they were all ill tempered watch dogs, i said they were as nice as any dog, or nicer, if raised properly. Then my cat died, and three weeks later an emaciated month old puppy arrived at our doorstep. The kicker was that he had a bare spot on his forehead...and and our prior 22 year old cat's defining mark was a light spot on her forehead. No way my mom could say no after that. So he adopted him and have loved him ever since...what do u know, i was right!

bernadette 01-26-2005 04:37 PM

What a cute little guy!!! Scary story about the pills though. That's GSD for you though, they're damn smart! My shepherd is currently trying to learn how to use door knobs. She knows they open doors but hasn't quite figured out how to turn them...but she has managed to get 1 door open twice. Another time I was in the computer room with the door basically shut but not latched. I heard jiggling on the knob and within a few seconds she was coming through the door. She'd futzed with the knob on the door until she figured out she could just push it open...smart I tells ya! That and she'll learn to do damn near anything for a treat.

That's a nice looking Sheppard you got, Pure Breed?

My dog does the same thing with doors, He hasn't opened one yet..But he knows that the door knob opens doors.

Another thing, When he wants to go out in the backyard..He comes with my shoe in his mouth and when i go to grab it from him, he runs to the door.

An old friend of mine had a sheppard, and he had no control over this dog..This dog controlled him, I use to tell him that he needed to get a lapdog because he doesn't know how to train a big dog..He laughed at me and said if you had a big dog he would run you, My dog is the same age as his was at the time and 90% better trained. I wish i still knew him.

Yeah, she's a pure breed. Athena was rescued from an abusive situation. I think the trainer that fostered her can get her papers but we're not too concerned with that. We just love her and she's bonded very tightly with us. People have a tendency to misunderstand her protective instinct as aggression...in fact, once she gets to know you she's a very friendly and affectionate dog, just wary of strangers. Guards the house like nobody's business and we are grateful for that. ;)

My miniature Dachshunds' holiday picture. *grins* I have other pix, I'll have to dig them up. But I wanted to share their most recent pic. This one isn't the best quality... resizing the pic didn't do it any favors. But the original was way too big to post here. (And yes, I know Santa didn't smile.)

Oooh, I found some piccies of my babies! Here goes....

This is Faust. He's almost 9 and the light of my life. This is his "ok, mama, enough pictures now" look. heheh

This is Mathilda. She's 3 1/2 and her daddy's girl. This pic was taken only a couple of days after I rescued her, and she's not sure about the crazy woman on the floor with the camera.... I know her eyes are closed, but its such a good shot of her.

And this is one of my babies being good... or at least giving a reasonable appearance of being good, lol. *grins*

Damn, I've tried resizing that like four times. If it bothers anyone let me know and I'll take it out.

I present to you, thie Mighty Oscar ruler of all that is left in the tank that he has not eaten yet. I got some other pics of my 10 gallon betta tank and some of the "Boys" dogs and the "fat Bastard" cat

Will have to dig around for them and add as I get a chance seeing as how my digital camera just died on me tonight.
