Road Rage. I would love to hear about your most recent road rage experience

It doesnt matter whether you were giving or receiving the road rage, What does matter is that you explain what you were thinking at the time it happened. Dig deep and let us know what you felt and what you'd change in the future.

My experience:

The other day a fellow in a bronco was trying to change lanes in front of my car and he started swearing at me though the open top on his Ford. He said I was trying to block him. ( I was just trying to get turned around as I had taken a wrong turn earlier). As i changed lanes in front of his truck at the next light he drove forward and hit the side of my car.

Then HE FREAKED ON ME. He kicked my car several times and threatened to kill me. He threatened to beat me up.

I was not afraid as he was at least a foot shorter than me but just the same he had my attention. Later I was mad at myself for not seeing the early warning signs. Anyhow my car is dented now and he is going to have to pay for it. There were plenty of witnesses.

Thats my story what's yours?

this happened yesterday actually, on the road around town.

A little granny of what looked like 89 to me (probably alot lower, but hey, I gave her that old) was trying to take a turn and the guy ahead of me totally cut her off.
I saw her slamming the breaks just in time to avoid being hit, and then she totally flipped him off through her window. I was grinning from ear to ear and just had to let her go in front of me

Rodney,

No I am not doing a paper. But Perhaps I should . I think I just like a deeper conversation some days. This thread is also running under "general discussion" and there are some really good posts there too. Thanks for you interest.

I am a surprisingly laid back driver...Somebody has to do something Extremely fucking stupid to get my attention...It hasn't happened yet.

I find it amusing how easily some people lose it while driving.

Yeah, so I was driving to work today, and came to a 4-way stop. THere's this little old woman turning left, so i wait for her to go,like you're supposed to, and she doesn't. I gave her 10 seconds, then pulled on through, just as she started. She slammed on her brakes and gave the finger with both hands. Not really road rage, but funniest thing I've seen lately...

i was at lowe's yesterday, a group of three gents in a pickup were barreling into the parking lot when a woman walks into the roadway. the pickup slams on the brakes, honks and all three start yelling, terrorizing this woman.

after she gets out of the way they smash off, get up to about 15 and the guy somehow swerves into a row of carts, knocking them all over making this huge noise. they all get out of the car yelling at eachother and then get back in and flee the scene blasting queen.

driving to the coast, unfamiliar freeways, I don't drive in the bay area much, and don't much enjoy traffic. I'm a city driver. so... goin' down the freeway in the right lane of a 2 lane freeway, and there's this van comin' up an on-ramp. Me, being the overly polite female used to driving a v8 Mustang, thinks, oh, I'll let him get in front of me, it'll be great. not realizing vans accelerate at a proximately the same rate as turtles. so, I slow down to elt him get in front, and he's speeding up, adn we both hit the spot where the 2 lanes merge at about the same time. Oh shit, I'm thinkin'... this is NOT good, so i give my left mirror a quick glance, don't see no one for a bit, and hit the signal and try'n change lanes, pronto. Only, in the time between looking in my mirror and back again, a man in a truck has sped up, and in changing lanes, i almost changed into HIM. He was rather upset by this. honked at me, and flipped me off. and sped off. no one crashed, thankfully, but i was pretty pissed atthis guy who sped next to me when i had even bothered to signal while panicing. So, I'm driving down the road, and the next exit, there's that same truck, pulled over in the shoulder just before the onramp. Standing beteween the trck and the freeway was the trucks angry drivers, who had, it seems ,been waiting for me to drive by, so that he could flip me off one last time and shout mean things. i laughed. he passed me again, and i laughed s'more and waved g'bye to him.

I enjoy honking. It's fun. I admit it. I don't think I have a problem with it, but others do.

Here in Seattle the trend is not to bother going when the light turns green. People wait till the orange before they really try and cross the street. Then another 2-6 people will cross during the red. Drives me crazy.

I honk at anyone in front of me sitting at the red light. I honk and flip off anyone running the red when I have a green. With about 12 or so lights between my office and my home, I get to do this about a dozen times each trip.

Today, in my comm. college parking lot, me and my friend spotted a lady getting in her car ready to leave. She took about... I'd say 4-5 long minutes fussing with her hair and make up before she actually backed out of the lone spot. She had both her windows down on her way off so I pulled the best Connery voice I could and said in a loud voice "Youuuu shilly cunt!" just so that she could hear. Me n my friend got a good kick out of that throughout the night.

One time, on a one lane highway, a fellow in front of me dangerously moved into the opposite lane (and NOT during the passing broken yellow markers) to pass some family van that he never got more then three car lengths ahead anyway, and he had to cut them off to do it without risking a head on. I yelled for him to f*ck himself when he took his turn off.

This one lady was running against my mother for school board about a year or so ago, and my mom really didn't like her. The day before the election was set, she was standing next to a busy highway (anyway who knows half moon bay can attest to hwy 92's traffic) holding a sign promoting herself. I honked and gave her the finger, and she made the absolute funniest suprise look.

Nothing that ever had any risk of real confrontation, I suppose.

On my way to work one morning, I was trying to get into the left lane so that I could eventually get in the middle turning lane. I saw an opening and tried to get in, but the truck next to me sped up so that I couldn't get in front of him. I let this pass and waited, but my turn was coming up, so I needed to hurry and get over. He was still beside me and had left enough room for me to get over comfortably, so I did. When he saw me coming over agian, he sped up but I was already in front of him. He flashed his lights, and honked. I got over into the middle turning lane and he came up next to me and proceeded to get over into my lane. I had no choice but to slow down or he would have hit me. Once he was in front of me, he stopped his truck and got out. He was screaming and cursing at me. Threatening to kick my ass, etc..

If he hadn't gone out of his way to stop me from getting over, none of this would have happened. It didnt bother me too much. He was the one that was going to be pissed all day at work, not me.

I was on my way to north Phoenix and the on ramp to the 101 goes from two lanes into one. I was going about 65 on the on ramp and this dude starts tailgating me so I slammed on my breaks and he went flying around me. I flipped him off of course and then this dipshit starts flashing what appears to be gang signs. He kept this up for a good mile on a congested highway while not paying attention to steering or the other cars. I just laughed and kept on driving.

The only rather obvious case of road rage I've witnessed was in the form of some guy going berserk in front of me when we were sitting in late evening traffic(there was road construction occuring). I was fairly entertained watching this guy for the duration of the three hours it took us to get from exit 458 to exit 454..

I've recieved the middle finger once or twice two also, I believe...

I live right off a two lane highway with no passing zones for miles in either direction and virtually no shoulder.

I'm coming home from school and this lady in a big white surburban is riding my ass. I look back in the mirror; she's got one hand on the cell phone, another holding a cigarette, and she's making obscene gestures at me trying to get me to go faster.

There's a little old lady in front of me making her turn so I slow down a bit so I don't rear end her. The SUV lady starts honking her horn and flashing her lights. I look back and she's having a seizure or something, but she never drops her smoke or phone.

Now I'm amused.

I finish my drive doing ten miles an hour under the posted speed limit. I make there is no way for her to pass me on a double yellow (she kept edging up and swerving out like she was going to) I get to my turn and take my sweet time making it, she freaks out and squeals off.

Now, I've made my day.

I get out to check my mail, she turns around and comes back to pull over in my drive way and yell at me. I tell her maybe it's time to cut back on the caffeine and that's it's dangerous to drive with your head up your ass.

I then point to my big "trespassers will be prosecuted" sign and inform her she's trespassing. I pull out my cellphone (pretending to call the cops) and she leaves.

Made my week.

It could have been my fault but the other day I had to get home right away. There are two cars infront of me in the left lane and steady traffic on the right. A gap opens up on the right and I move in and accelerate to pass the cars, I am about 2/3 in front of this station wagon as I give it a little more gas, signal and start to slide over. As im coming in a hear the horn and the guy in the rear veiw is giving me the finger, the only possible way I could have cut him off is if he put the hammer down as I looked back after shoulderchecking. He then pulls up next to me and shouts about getting out of the car and kicking my ass (6'7" and I don't usualy get intemidated) I just looked across at him and sped up a bit and he continued to play catch up and pull next to me and I guess he seriously expected me to pull over, I just stuck it in the right lane and at the last reaonably safe moment before the median crossed into a turning lane (no other cars were using turning lane) came barling through the off ramp and around a few cornes, then home, it had me pretty worked up as its the first time iv actually ran into road rage but the combination of tall, 17, classic porsche and N sign bring out the worst in people.

The year was 1979. I was driving on a freeway in the middle of nowhere. I had a fast car and liked passing people on the freeway. With my FuzzBuster securely on the dash, I went around a car at about 90. A short time later, the guy passed me. I couldn't let that be the end of it. I caught up and passed him again doing 100. About that time, I hear a gunshot. I look in the mirror and see a rifle resting on the side rear view mirror pointed my way. Another shot. I floored it. Didn't look back until the speedo said 140. I left him in the dust and my heart in my throat.

In my opinion, flipping off and cursing are quite cliched. Instead, a nice thumbs-up and a smile tend to be much more irksome. If their window is down, yell out, "Have a nice day!!" or "Jesus loves you!" And continue to smile at them as they get more and more angry. And hope they don't have a gun.

When the power went out all around the great lakes region, I decided to walk home from work, rather than sitting on a bus for 4 hours. Naturally, the traffic was bumper to bumper. Some middle-aged clown (not an actual clown, that would have been awesome) decided to drive onto the sidewalk to get around someone whose truck had stalled, and nearly ran my foot over. I yelled "What the fuck do you think you're doing?" He looked over at me and decided he had time to get out of the car and give me a piece of his mind. As he was getting out, his door dinged the side of the truck that had stalled. This started a heated debate between the two guys. I just chuckled and called the guy a "fuckin' idiot" and wandered off, feeling happy that karma worked out for him.

i guess i´m lucky that i never suffer from road rage. i just never found it important enough to angry about.

mind you, i´ve seen some poor highly-stressed individuals out on the road losing it just because someone wasn´t driving fast enough for them or something.

i just feel sorry for them, cos really, its them who´ll have a bad day.

i remember one character, driving a SUV behind me, decided i wasn´t driving fast enough so he tail-gated me for a while ... sadly i didn´t even realise for a while.
he ended up honking and everything. and generally losing his cool.

maybe it was because i didn´t get all riled up that just made it worse for him... who knows, but i do know that a couple of minutes later (after he had managed to overtake me), i saw him getting pulled over by the police for speeding.

silly man.

Yup....Just smile and wave, Works everytime.

Really people, Is doing 20 over the speed limit really gonna get you to where your going that much faster? I speed too, But I never get pissed cause the guy infront of me is doing the speedlimit. It annoys me when people drive in the passing lane on the highways if they are not passing any cars.

If i had a nickel for everytime some dickhead that's behind me gets pissed off and passes me...Only to come to a stop at a light right beside him.

Or

The road is merging into one lane and thier is a ton of traffic...I see these people trying to merge in as far up as they can...Why? Is being 4 or 5 cars ahead that much better? I also think that if you know the lane is merging just switch lanes, Instead of trying to squeeze in as far up as you can....Things would move a whole lot smoother. I NEVER let people in, The merging sign is always posted before you actually get to that point...If your going to ignore it and try to squeeze infront of me...It won't happen. This kind of goes against me saying just switch lanes and everything will go smoother...If I see someone stopped with thier signal on trying to move over, I will usually let them in. The people that go flying up and then try to force thier way into the other lane...Those are the people I won't let in.

I was walking through the Best Buy parking lot, when I heard this woman (think neurotic soccer mom) in an SUV SCREAMING at a small Asian woman in a small, Japanese sedan. Apparently, the Asian woman cut off the SUV lady, or something minor, but the soccer mom was screaming at the woman about why she didn't "pull over when I told you to pull over!" and asked if "you people drive like that in Japan!"
It was pretty bad, and I felt really bad for the Asian woman, who obviously knew little English. . .they had left by the time I was out of Best Buy though.

I was driving down this road, there's a bunch of cars parked alongside of it outside the Sihk temple for some holiday.

This black Murano just pulls off the curb and into the road, didn't inch, didn't look, didn't anything. I missed the shit by about three inches.

So I got out, a let a nice string of explitives and racial slurs out. I felt like I could kill the guy because he didn't think he did anything wrong. Hell, he didn't even speak english.

That was a few days ago.

Many of the road-rage incedents that I've been involved with were mainly testosterone-pumped 16-twentysomethings that get REALLY pissed when their 'autozone' customized Camero got blown-out-of-the-water by a Taurus coughSHOcough. Mainly pulling off of stoplights.

I would have to admit that when I had some asshole tailgating me he would attempt to pass, I'd gun it, and all he'd have left was dust. He'd catch up about 3 miles later when I gave up. Then there is a lot of light-flashing and finger saluting. I usually just look and laugh.. <giggle>

Mine isn't too interesting, but some P-plater (18-21 years old) in his hotted up car was tailgating me as I was going the speed limit, we only had one lane so he couldn't pass me.

It was about 2am, and it had just finished raining lightly so all the oil and grease was in the surface of the road so it wasn't the best time to be driving and faced (from the back!) by a tailgater.

Anyway, I just tapped my brakes a few times to let him know I wanted him to back off but he didn't, so I just slowed down to 10 or 15kp/h under the speed limit and gently rolled up to the lights. He pulled up beside me and was having a heart attack, I just gave him a huge thumbs up and a smile and then shrugged, and then I got my green arrow so I cruised away, leaving him having his brain explosion

I usually just try and pull to the side and let them pass. If they want to speed and get past me then it's not worth the risk of pissing them off or having them run up the back of me, so I'll just let them past and hope they get a speeding ticket.

What does everyone else do when someone tailgates you? Let them pass so you don't have to worry about them rear-ending you? Go slowly to annoy them? Slam on the brakes and let them hit you to teach them a lesson?

I don't get too awful mad usually...but Jesus, you would figure that animals would get off the road quicker! One time, at our town's four-way stop, a dogwalked right in front of my car and simply stood there. Nothing more, nothing less, the dog just stood. I waited afew seconds, then honked the horn at it. It then starts to slow-poke his way in the path I wanna go, so I now hit the gas and pass the dog when I got the chance (which took awhile). It's not that bad a case of road-rage, but I was mad at the time of it.

Actually, I drive a '77 Chevy Pick-up; if they wanna tailgate me...let'em. I do notice, though, that people tend to stay a safer distance from me, or allow me to merge more easily than if I'm driving my wife's Saturn. I guess they figure that the truck's old, faded and dinged up, so I don't care about it as much; and will take greater chances with it...I don't know. I just think that it's kinda funny.

I used to drive a '92 Suburban. I too noticed that folks stayed a much more respectable distance behind me. They also didn't try to turn in front of me without giving themselves plenty of room. Now that I drive my wife's van (yes, I've had my sack removed ) I don't get that cushion from folks like I used to. Bastards!

yeah.. im very laid back... like i was driving with my buddy and this van in the lane next to me decided to switch into my lane... his van was virtually next to my pickup, id say the front of the van was about a foot or two in front of my truck... and the guy came right over.. nice and quick... anyways i just checked out my right mirror quick and swirved out of the guys way... my friend was like screaming and yelling, he was very pissed off... im like, woah man calm down... everyone screws up and makes mistakes.. or maybe hes just a bad driver. getting freaked out wont help, driving well angry is stupid... this happened another time basicly same scenario but i was bymyself.. once again i just moved out of the way... one thing i did because i was angered.. a guy in front of me ran a red... he could have stopped like 10 meters before it, but he went straight through it, didnt even slow down... so i waited for the light then i caught up and tailgated him trying to make a point that being a jackass and runnig red lights wont get you anywhere faster

hmm ive been driving trucks around (kenworths/frieghtliners ect) and people dont give any extra room, which is dumb because it takes alot longer for a truck to slow down so when people cut infront of them at a red its dumb.. and behind them.. you cant see whats going on ahead..
