Be my personal trainer? (advice thread)
Ok so, here's the deal. I'm tired of being a fatty
(who isn't?) Ok so a little about me, 6'6" 300 lbs even. Used to be a truck unloader and my all time lowest with my bone structure and build that I could attain by busting my arse on labor (completely untargeted muscular growth and calories burnt) was 265. I'm back to 300 now 3 years later after 2 call center jobs, (sit on YOUR ass for 8 hours a day and tell me it doesn't happen) Right now My calorie intake is pretty much either nothing, or far too much, I'm either in starvation mode, or overeating, so this is the 1st thing I need to reel in. I haven't eaten in 2 days, hungry, but don't feel like eating. I'm generally shy about anything that will put in in the view of other people, call it being self concious but I'd prefer some sort of private work out, or night jogging might be a valid suggestion. I'm not sure what kind of information one needs, but I'm completely uneducated on diets and/or exercise. I've quit with the damned computer games and lazy behavior, but I'm getting tired of spending all my time being out and being social when i don't feel that good about myself, so I need to divert that time to self improvement. and so... where would you say I start? pictures for reference http://www.myspace.com/shauk (you do need a signon) profile is public, please do not add me, I will not return the action, i like my tiny friends list, thanks |

The easiest thing I've found is not to get all wonky on diets or calorie intake or specific training plans and whatnot. Cut all unnecissary sugar out of your diet. Stop drinking soda and sweet tea, axe the candy, and skip dessert. I find that the more I eat sugar, the more I want it, and the less I eat sugar, the less I want it. Eating less sugar is a great way to cut calories by making a very small change in your diet. It also will probably help with your wierd hunger swings.
Next, go to the bookstore, look in the workout books, and find something that looks interesting that you can do at home. I like the Swiss Ball, but you might like pilates or even Sweatin' to the Oldies! Also, you can be social and be "working out" too. Just take up something like ballroom dancing or volenteer for Habitat for Humanity- things that will get you up and moving around. Easiest formula for losing weight ever comes from my husband- "Get off your ass and don't eat so damned much!" (I mean that to bring a smile to your face, not in assinine drill seargant style). And, holy lord, if you're really 6'6"... tall men just start out being hot in my opnion. So remember that you're hot, and then do what you need to do in order to get even hotter! ps- Pagin' Ch'i!

Eat properly and lace up those running shoes. Those 2 things combined are an excellent start to losing weight.

yeah, i'm really 6'6" I just added a picture of my and my half sisters in the entrance to a 6'6" parking garage
and no, I don't doubt that being tall is an attractant, I still don't seem to have a problem with girls wanting to talk to me and such (I know i"m not repulsive, in the very least) however, I don't really feel that I'm doing as good as I should be, I certainly don't feel healthy. Thats for sure. I'm down to 299 today. But then again I just woke up and still have not had a meal. Whats a good light 1st meal to have? I own a can of spagehttio's heh Last edited by Shauk; 11-09-2006 at 11:58 AM.. |

Got a bike? Get one of these:
http://www.bicyclebuys.com/Items01.a...fo&SKU=0100190 You clamp your back wheel's axle into the frame, and you have an indoor exercise bike for a lot less than the price of an indoor exercise bike. You'll want to get a smooth tire for your back wheel - knobby tires make a helluva lot of racket. I have one, set up in front of an LCD TV with DVD player. I watch movies and get my exercise, and no one can see me (that's not why I have it - I got it so I could keep riding when it snows. I'm not one of those crazies who tries to bike on ice) There are three types of bike trainers. No-resistance (useless because you quickly get the wheel spinning faster than you're pedaling), magnetic resistance (that's what I linked to), and fluid resistance. Fluid is the nicest, and the quietest, but they do have a bad habit of leaking, and whatever that crap is that they put in there will ruin anything carpet. . .I go magnetic -the noise isn't any worse than a regular exercise bike with a fan-wheel, and they don't wear out like the fluid ones do. The resistance increases with your speed and basically keeps a little something for you to work against so your legs aren't spinning wildly. Last edited by shakran; 11-09-2006 at 12:28 PM.. |

1) Ride your bike to work. I've started doing this, and I've noticed that my energy has doubled. I am only about 4 miles from work, but I'd reccomend this unless you're more than 7-8 miles from work (or the onyl way to get to work is a highway).
2) Join a gym. Usually people have a problem with staying motivated. Even the best of us tend to crap out on diets and exercise programs after a short time (thus the obesity epidemic). Joining a gym doesn't just get you access to great equiptment, it gives you a musclar asshole that motivates you to no end. Personal trainers are the cure to the common lazy bug. The great thing about personal trainers is that they are able to give you all the advise you need, and stay on you until you reach your goal. While the nice people on TFP can help, we can't go with you. 3) Eat stuff that grazes, swims, and grows in a field, orchard, on or in the ground. Nothing is as good as natural food. Fruits, veggies, lean meat, basic dairy (yogurt, nonfat milk, etc.), and whole grains are imparitive to any diet. Eat when you're hungry, and stop when you're full. I say that 6 small meals a day, with breakfast being the largest, is the best diet any man can get. If you need something sweet, go for it, but don't gorge. Also, drink at least twice as much water as you drink now. 8 glasses a day is okay if you're 4 years old, but as a 6'6" man, you'll need about 3 times that, and that's without exercise. If you're hungry, eat. If you're thirsty, drink water, 100% fruit juice, milk, light beer, etc. Sodas suck. Energy drinks suck. |

1) I'm a driver, so, no riding to work. Car is part of the job.
2) I've considered it. But like I said, it's pretty public and I'm more of a private type. I have no self discipline issues, I'm one of those types to take a bulldog mentality to doing what I think is right, it's just a matter of finding out the "how" 3) so, no spaghettios gotcha. Guess it's time to go shopping soon. |

The biggest problem you have might be your feast-or-famine diet. After a few days of not eating, your body reacts to a huge influx of food by storing as much as possible as fat, so it can survive during the lean times.
Eating a regular, consistant diet will allow your body to get out of starvation mode. Not only will you store less fat, but you'll have a lot more energy because your body won't think that it has to place every spare calorie in storage. This will make exercise easier too. |

Too bad you're a private person. NOTHING beats a workout partner. Personal trainers are just paid workout partners once you know what you're doing. Remember that the more you exercise, the more you FEEL like exercising. Success builds on itself. |

Shauk, I'd LOVE to be your personal trainer but thats hard to do internet wise. I work now as a personal trainer and people pay me to make them work out. They pay me to create their programs, teach them their program, progress their programs as they improve, motivate them and hold them accountable. I could give you a program but I would have no way to hold you accountable for that program. I could tell you equipment to buy so you could work out at home but again, I couldn't hold you accountable for your workout and like most people that buy home equipment it would probably end up gathering dust and taking up space.
You posted on this space asking for help, but really you know what you have to do, you're just hoping someone will give you a more palatable alternative. Come on, we both know there isn't one. I, like you found myself very overweight and feeling sick and weak all the time. My friends would ask me out and usually I was the "third wheel" because I was fat and felt too insecure to even consider asking out a girl. Maybe I wasn't even that bad but my own insecurity kept me home watching Babylon 5 or playing video games instead of joining my friends out on the town. Finally, after having a two week vacation from work when I was going to "really accomplish a lot" and mostly found myself eating pizza and feeling like crap I decided to make a change. I went to a gym, embarressment be dammned ( and believe me I was embarressed) joined and eventually hired a trainer. I discovered nobody gives a damn what you look like or what you are doing at the gym. People are far too wrapped up into their own thing to care about you. My advice is, join a gym, schedule a time that YOU CAN"T MISS and work out.If you can afford a trainer, hire one. If you can't and need help I will be glad to work with you by e-mail or posting on here to give you work-outs, nutritional advice, and any motivation I can.
