Find a fire hydrant and a wrench. Get a hose and a priest. The priest besses the hydrant (the water becomes holy water), wrench open the hydrant, let loose on those suckers.
I assume holy water would kill them and stuff... it works on vampires for sure. |

Okay, the first thing you need to consider is what kind of zombie we are talking about. Given the recent lack of faith in the dark arts, I suspect we're covering the virus-induced-mindless-undead-hordes that are so popular in movies such as 28 Days.
Now, what are the defining characteristics of these creatures? A) A near immunity to pain. B) A mindless desire for flesh. C) A severe threat for infection. Now, this presents us with several problems. The most notable is that your standard bullet will not cause sufficient tissue damage to stop a zombie. Direct annihilation of motor control facilities, fatal wounds to major organs, and severe blood loss are the only way to guarantee the zombie will be stopped. Fire, while brutally effective (and particularly cleansing of potential infection), is slow-to-act on creatures that are incapable of feeling pain. Fire also carries severe personal risk, and is not recommended for untrained civilian use. The ideal weapon, therefore, is a shotgun. Shotguns are ideally designed for maximum tissue damage, and are simple enough that even a child can reliably operate one. This is preferred over automatic weaponry, or other less-portable forms of weaponry. Furthermore shotguns are very efficient in terms of ammunition expenditure; far fewer shots are required to kill a zombie with a shotgun relative to automatic weapons. The only major issue shotguns have is ammunition capacity; most shotguns carry few rounds relative to automatic weapons. Now, what about a secondary weapon? Most would suggest a chainsaw, but a chainsaw has a fatal flaw; it requires gas and oil. A standard melee weapon is far more effective in the long run. Ideally you want something that requires little training to use, such as a mace. Swords require extensive maintanence and practice; maces or hammers let you smash something until it dies. Blunt objects also reduce the chance of blood-borne pathogens from spreading via splatter. Now, the final consideration is one of location. Some would argue that constant mobility is required, in essence a nomadic form of life. I would suggest the alternative; a static lifestyle in a remote location far from major population centers. Living off the land is not too difficult, particularly in the wilderness, and you'll never lose a battle if you don't have to fight any. If you must remain mobile, an army-style HUMVEE (the original, not the prissy-ass "HUMMER 2") is ideal. The combination of ruggedness, offroad capability, and diesel engine makes survival far easier.

Okay first of all, I'll need some protection (thank god i make chainmaille). I'll probably a get a tight, strong, yet light weave of titanium, proably something around euro4-1 14g 3/8id. That should protect me pretty thouroghly. Probably, also a gas mask, or respiration device, just in case.
Then, I'll need some very close range weaponry, for when it gets ugly, probably some retractable blades mounted onto my wrists, about 2 feet long or so. Probably a very strong titanium alloy. snap action, so with a flick of my wrist, it'll pop out. For moderate close ranger, probably 2 katanas, built from very fine, whatever katanas are made out of. I would have to spend a bit of time learning how to use them right, so i don't cut myself to peices using 2 at the same time. Next an ideal medium-long range weapon would be something that can do lots of damage, over a large range, and have lots of ammo. Probably an assault-type gun, with explosive ammuniton. A good long range weapon would be a rocket launcher of some kind. A good one, that does lots of widespread damage, able to take out a whole crapload of zombies in one blast. |

Can never beat a bottle of whiskey and a lighter/blowtorch.
Take a bit of whiskey in your gullet light your torch and spit! This will invariably light one of the little fucks on fire and while he stumbles around all firey and ablaze he'll light other zombies from the horde on fire. When you run out of whiskey to spit on the little living dead fucks go Silent Hill Style on them with a sword, stick, or pipe. A good smack and they'll fall down and won't get back up again! And if all that fails! Bow down onto your knees and pray the S.T.A.R.S., or some other video game heroes come to save you!

Grab a good 4 foot katana and start servering some heads. The Romero zombies are basically falling apart due to the decay process. A good japanese katana will be able to deal with hundreds of zombies before needing sharpening, which can be done fairly easily and quickly in the Highlander method. Better than fire because it doesn't need fuel and doesn't carry a burn risk, better than guns because of the reload time and required ammo and better than a chainsaw because it doesn't need gas and is much more manuverable. Another option is to use a dai-sho set, the two foot and four foot sword. This style is advocated by the samurai, and we all know that samurai movies are better than zombie movies so you are guarenteed to win.

Ive given this a little thought-
First buy a river camp not some pussy camper next to a river, i mean a real fucking house on metal stilts (the stilts in real life are used so ur house doesnt get flooded). Make sure the stilts are over 10 feet tall at least and at least 4 inches wide. Then take all stairs and steps off and replace the with a rope laders or retracktable laders. Then put some fuckin land mines around the perimeter of the camp. Grease the metal stilts just in case they try to climb them. Get lots and lots of water and food provisions and basic living supplies. You still need weapons to take out them zombie bastards. I would take two 12 gauge shotguns with pistol grips, extended 8 shot magazines with double ought buck shot in them, and sawed off barrels. Then two identical colt 45's and a belt to hold at least 5 clips a peace. To pick those ugly fuckers off at a distance i would use a 30-06 with a high powered scope( i can already shoot a paint can at 150 yards, thats for fun not Zombie killing). Then some fuckin explosive arrows like on the dukes of hazzard to blow those fucks up. Stock pile lots of ammo, dynamite, and arrows: buy at least 2 cases of 45 caliber military ammo, 2 cases of 12 gauge double ought buckshot, and a case 30-06 ammo. If ur married with kids or have a girlfriend thats better she can either help shoot or load ur weapons. The Zombies might start piling up around ur camp and ur running low on ammo so I would also keep a couple Badass medevil weapons. Some real fuckin Braveheart shit, a fuckin big ass Battle sword and Battleax just in case. If worst comes to worst u sould have a couple razer sharp Buck knifes one on ur belt and one our boot. I hate to say it U also might want to keep a journal to record whats going on if u die but i fuckin doubt it with this set up. Those bastard zombies may have a some fuckin problems when they when they stumble on to a river camp like this. -Early H |

I personally
Don't enjoy going in with heavy equipment, I like the feeling of finesse. I find it usually in pistols. It's just my preference. Hollow point .357 sig. 500+ foot pounds per second of damage. Unlike a shotgun you will HAVE to aim well, and you won't be able to do much at range.
As for a rifle, well I would pick a reliable, effective weapon that you can carry with you on foot easily. I would never rely on transportation. My choice would be the m4 or m16. Some recommend the AK-47 which would end up being easier to care for and more reliable, but it's a bit heavier. You can get the RO979 (flat top, semi/burst) model with a grenade launcher for when the shit hit's the fan. Throw on a 4x scope and you have a good all around weapon for medium and even long range. With practice I bet you could get headshots at 200 meters. I would stress headshots at any range. Shotguns would still require headshots not mattter how tweaked they are. Shotguns however simply don't have the range that pistols and rifles do. Hollowpoint .357 is more then enough to incapacitate a zombie if you get a headshot each time, in room clearing and last minute self defence situations it would work great, not to mention you can get 17 round mags, or even larger extended ones. Having an effective backup weapon is must, what if you run into a fellow survivor? You need to equip him also without disarming yourself in any way. And I agree with everyone else, ammo ammo ammo. Ever see the bank shootout in heat? Double that + Pistol clips. Since your not being shot at you can put 12 clips strapped to your legs 28 rounds each without fear of the clips being hit. And alternative to a .357 is the 9MM GL-18. It's really cool, but eats up ammo. It's a full auto pistol (it also does semi) and it can empty a 28 round clip in a bit less then 2 seconds. Not really practical but very amazing to watch. The advantage over other SMGs is that it is no larger then the average pistol. Also make sure you have ammo stashed around whereever you plan on being. You may end up in situations where you have to waste enough that you'll need to restock. Due to viral considerations I would go with a full tactical armor to prevent gnawing and splatter and other such nastiness, not goggles, but a face shield would be nice. It's a bit heavy, but the heavy cloth is quite strong. For vehicular equipment I would recommend a lightly equipped vehicle with good gas milage. Armor isn't critical vs. zombies so a hummer is pointless, (although the mobile .50 cal would help keep you from getting surrounded) If you want a weapon to use at extreme range or for base defence go with the barrett m82A1, a round anywhere in the chest will blow the zombie to pieces quite literally. The barrett claims to be accurate up to two miles, but reality is closer to a mile and it ships with a 10x scope I believe. And shiz... use common sense... stay the hell away from formerly crowded urban centers.

i know alot of people are saying to get an ak gernades and shit like that. the fact is that this is not a movie if you want to survive you also need to no your facts the zombie survival guide by max brooks
First and formost you must pack as much dry food and water as possible and headout to a friends perferably someone you trust and know. But if you ganna try and survive it yourself good luck my friend because you might as well go out there and let them feast the fuck out of you. you must be in a group of 3 to 4 people know more or less the more you have the fast the food will vanish even if you do rashon it. and the less you have the more you must do and saving your energy is the key to surviving. Defending is not an easy task what im about to tell you is the key defence. You must first find a 2 story house fill all the bathtubs full of water so if you water supplie runs out or if the water line is turned off at least you got water then hack the shit out of the staircase WARNING!!! do not try and burn it down cause it could get out of control and then burn the whole house down fences and barb wire is a must. by fences i mean by chainlink fences. A chainlink fence is the best for zombie sieage a fence like that can hold a crowd of zombies but not for long. if chainlinked fences are not availble cars are the next best like a fence they are heavy and strong make a line of them and by the time they scramble over it that should give you enough time to peck ones head off. guns and how to used them first lay low for a while it may be right to go to a local gun shop and take whatevers there but thats what everyone would do they would even kill a inoccent person to get ahold of a firearm after a couple days go and grab the guns but not just any guns grab the most important. List Semi auto rifle(with scope and if possible night vision) Pistal (laser sighting if possible) 12 gauge shot gun crossbow (scope) it may sound stupid but its perfect for a silent kill and as much ammo as possible shooting getting a head shot is not an easy task it takes skill so what you must do it find a some cans or something to shoot at for practice once you get good at a sertain distance half that. that will be your kill zone whatever is in you kill zone theres a 90% chance of a kill shot also practice with the rifle shot gun there is no need. also you must have fun will killing the dead its true so get some boardgame risk,etc.. also earplugs are a must hearing the grons and moans of a zombie can make a person go mad even kill someone |

they are actually into disaster prep, with the idea of zombies to make it fun and lighthearted rather than attracting all the world is ending types- for me and the wife, in the event of zompocalypse, its an AK-47 and sidearm for her, an sks and sidearm for me, and spare pistols for all..... and lots of ammo, then its load the gear into the car and baby into the carseat, and its off to the parents house, which we jokingly call the compound, where we have a generator, catfish pond, and buldozer, among other handy items...... (we decided to prepare for disasters after katrina, and that included in my case an excuse to buy guns.....)

i would say the best weapon would be a SUV with a brush guard on the front...for hand held, you want a machete/sword cause that will never run out of bullets or jam and you have to remove the head to stop them...other than that, shotguns are you best bet....if you want to hole up in a compound, then a 50 calibre sniper rifle, which shoots a klick and takes down anything....

The best firearm would probably be any assault rifle you can get your hands on. It would be a mistake to suggest a shotgun. Shotshells are a lot larger and heavier than normal assault rifle rounds, much shorter range, and a shotgun cannot be fired nearly as fast as a magazine-loaded rifle. AR15 / AK47 would be the best choice, although any rifle with significant magazine capacity 15+ rounds could work fine.
The combination of gasoline and a flare gun has been noted to work when the zombies are in tight groups and you have adequate time to prep and escape. The best hand-to-hand piece is probably a titanium pry bar. Lightweight and good for brain-shots. A machete would be okay, but has to be kept extremely sharp at all times to be effective. |

Yeah, but I've killed zombies before. I know these things.
... Thin blade isn't enough, bro. A bread knife is a shitty anti-zombie choice. What I should have continued with is: Sharp or heavy. The key to success is getting weight behind the business portion of the weapon... whether its the projectile size/weight (as in an AK round) or a bolo or khurk as far as cutting weapons... The standard straight machete, due to lack of weight, needs to be sharp. You won't get enough momentum from a barely 2 lb machete. Weapons like khurks or bolos don't have to be as sharp because they have more weight... blunt force trauma combined with the minimal cross section contact ensure cleavage of won't-stay-dead limbs. Think: Claymore. Those swords weren't particularly sharp, but had a lot of mass behind them. Quote:

First off, I would like to point out the biggest disadvantage of firearms: finite ammunition. Unless you are living out of an arms manufacturing plant or know how to make your own, you are going to eventually run out of ammo.
If zombies are overrunning the land, chances are that society has been disrupted and all the ammo has been claimed by various individuals. There is only so much to go around; it will eventually run out. Reminder: zombies are the living dead; the undead. They have lots of time, we don't. Second, bladed weapons, though more practical than guns, do have another disadvantage mentioned above: they need to be kept sharp or they'll be ineffective. This is a big disadvantage if you are mobbed for more than a few hours. Although zombieflesh is rotting and relatively easy to hack, they do have bones and will eventually make your blade dull. Therefore, I offer you the perfect, fail-safe, zombie-fighting weapon: the morningstar. The morningstar is little more than a big, heavy, spiked metal ball on the end of a chain attached to a handle. They are durable, requiring little maintenance, lasting pretty much forever. What's more, the action on a morningstar is ideal versus zombies. First, the chain arrangement is perfect for getting that snap-the-whip action to get that spiked ball at a decent velocity. Second, the natural weight of a big metal ball lends to some kick-ass momentum. Third, the damage you will bestow upon your necroadversaries will be both bludgeoning and tearing. Imagine, if you will, being brained by a spiked metal ball, only to have it ripped away a moment later. Not good, eh? That's the point. Low-tech, high-impact damage. Guns, though efficient and highly damaging, won't be practical if the legions of dead are around for a few years. I'm not saying avoid them altogether. Hell, lock and load, my friends. Just be sure to seek thee a morningstar, so thou hath something akin to the arm of God. Godspeed, my kin. Strike down thy vile enemies, the treachery of Satan. May you prevail, and smite their ruins down into the hells from whence they came! I forever remain, Your brother at arms, Sir Baraka_Guru Knight of the Holy Fist

In the short term, I think i'd go with sortof a Casey Jones look-- several aluminum bats in a bag I can keep on my back as sortof a sheathe. Not the most effective thing you could use since it's not going to hold up forever, but I don't own a gun (or a morningstar) and going to a gun store during the initial mass panic sounds like a great way to get shot. Once I had a chance to get a bit more organized and things were more deserted, THEN I would find something with some range to it. Even then it probably won't be anything fancier than what I could find in the sporting goods department in Wal-Mart, partially just so ammunition will be easy to find as I go.
I really like the morningstar idea, but where would one FIND something like this? From what I've heard the average replica weapon isn't very durable (yeah, good like with those katanas guys... there's a reason I'll be leaving my klaive behind when the outbreak starts ) and I don't think I've ever seen even a replica morningstar. Do you have a museum nearby that you're going to go raid or something?

Zombies, as creatures with an Undead template, are pretty easy to deal with. Unless you shoot well, guns are just no good at all: As piercing weapons, they're less effective against zombies, which have DR 5/Slashing. As such, I'd suggest a +5 Keen Sacred Longsword of Holy Burst. With even the smallest prayer, you can dust dozens of them, and the raw spiritual energy wrapped around the blade should render the weapon itself little more than a vessel for the furious rage of God...

right lets think about this theres more of us and we're quicker than them we know about things like guns and we're all more likely to kill them than they are likely to kill us so therefore we find a military base wherever or a wallmart for ammo make sure we have guns or as some have said a katana or the bigger ones i can't remember but we get those and a fast car and a land rover and make sure they don't catch us and of course a strimmer and a supermarket trolley with pitchforks and other sharp things in it and just mow them down

Guns aside, Planster has a better idea of what is better, I offer the perfect backup sidearm for zombie killing.
The War Hammer. Hammer-shaped on one side for blunt trauma damage to zombie heads and a nice pick-like point on the other side for maximum zombie killing. Quote:
BG can take a heavy, momentum driven (you have to build up speed for the morning star to become truly effective, except wide swings which wouldn't be good for close melee and fast moving targets), un-weldly morning star. I'm taking a light, (> 5lb) fully forged, steel pickaxe with me to open up some zombie heads. PS. Nice necro Plan, loving it. ***** I have a plan for the Z-War that involves taking over a wal-mart, fortifying the area, and holding out there for a month or so to find out if the government is going to come in a help us or not. I'd go into it, but I can only tell the people that are coming with me about it.
