The Last Samurai -- 5/5 *****
Everything about this film screamed brilliance, I had high hopes for this film being a fan of Feudal Japan and a fan to Kurosawa's films but this film delivered extremely well. Where ROTK made tears trickle down my face Last Samurai brought be to a blubbering mess, this film really struck a chord within me and annot wait to see it again. |

Well, we rented- haven't been to the movies for a while, but will be going to see LOTR 3 soon here....
We rented Head of State with Chris Rock- 5 ***** putting some of the irritating cheesy party- not all were cheesy, just some. But the message and storyline was awesome and Chris Rock did a superb job as being almost completely serious. Gotta watch it! |

Just saw Kill Bill for the 2nd time.
Even better the second go around. The way he uses so many different styles is amazing, use of color lack there of and lighting are stunning. Tarantino weaves a great story about the art of telling a story. 9 out of 10. I can't wait for part 2. |

I just finished up True Romance. I've seen it several times, but it's been a while. It's really just a kick ass movie. That's about all I have to say about it. It's just cool as hell. I wish I had the more recent DVD release, but I just have the old one.

hard boiled DVD. great movie. this and "the killer" are the best John Woo movies so far. the r3 dvd is awefull. 7/10
pirates of the carribean DVD. it is still fun after the second viewing. 80 % of the movie is johnny depp. without him the movie would have been a lot worse. 7/10

Phone Booth
Real odd start, I thought it was some fake version. Pretty interesting, it makes you think, however sometimes boring. It's quite cool that almost the entire movie is one scene from different angles. I'd recommend watching it, although it's nothign amazing. |

Even for a low budget film it has some seriously good moments. Next...Desperado....and then Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

On video... Old School- pretty funny, but I didn't find it as hilarious as people have said it is. I give it a B.
In the theater... Return of the King. I love the scenes of the battle where they do an overhead view and show the masses of armies going at it. So awesome. Definite A+. |

just saw Falling Down... I dont want to overhype this movie but i realy realy realy enjoyed it! it came before pulpfiction(you'll see some parts that pulpfiction took from it)
its about a guy who snaps(goes crazy, goes postal, etc...) leaves in the middle of a traffic jam to "go home" then he gets pissed off at stuff on the way there... while this is going on, theres the story of a cop on his last day... this is one movie that i can watch forever without getting tired. i give it a 95% (lost 5% because theres no realy good music like in pulpfiction) enjoy the movie!

I have seen it many times, but the third time is a charm and a lot of stuff is startind to sink in....symbolism stuff.......but PI(symbol) is an 8 out of 10. I love the black and white look of it, could have used a tad bit better actors too.

Don't make it out to the movies much anymore. Wait for the DVD to come out.
Last purchase was "Bruce Almighty" with Jim Carry. Altho I very much enjoy his movies, this one didn't seem to be up to his normal stuff. Had some funny parts but as a whole wasn't that funny. I guess to much serious fare mixed in.

House of the dead... 1 / 10.
This wouldn't have even gotten a 1 but there were two, split second shots of zombies that I grinned because they looked like something Romero would film. Other than that... Worst videogame movie ever.. no.. Worst movie ever...

It is was a little slow to start off with, but what Kevin Costner movie doesn't. The story was good and the acting exceptional in my opinion. You can never go wrong with Robert Duvall in a western (Lonesome Dove anyone?) and I loved Michael Jeter as Percy (the horsehand).

Chungking Express. Don't remember what channel I was watching when I saw this, possibly some cable channel, but it was a cute, clever film about love & relationships in Hong Kong. Sorta/kinda like LA story, with subtitles, and no recognizable (by me anyway) stars.

I LOVE THIS FILM. i love Sofia's style. i know its a big ask to break away from daddy's influence and money, but imo, shes done it. sofia coppola is an extraordinary writer/director. the cast is sensational, the setting even better (tokyo is, after all, the greatest city in the world). i recommend this film to EVERYONE... 11/10... best film i've seen in a very long time.

Swimming Pool - 8 / 10
I loved this movie. I originally rented it for Ludivine Sagnier, but it turned out to be much more than her smokin' body. I'd recommend this to movie to anyone and actually I hope someone watches it soon, because I have some questions about the ending.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
I own this movie and it still makes me laugh out loud everytime I watch it. It has to be one of Johnny Depp's finest performances. And Terry Gilliam's directing is incredible. ****/****

The last entire movie I watched was Better Luck Tomorrow. It's a movie about overacheivers becoming bored and acting out I suppose is how to describe it. It was really interesting- not boring at all- just hard to explain. 4/5

Kung Pow - Enter the Fist
I don't know why but I find this movie so funny. It's an old kung-fu movie of some sort which has been dubbed over completely. They've digitally added a couple people into most of the scenes and the majority of the movie turns out to be rather amusing. Except for that damn tongue creature. I'll give it 3.5/5

The last movie I saw in theatres was Scary Movie 3.
I thought it was very funny, and not much more. It's a great comedy, very stupid, but funny stupid. My favorite joke/reference in the movie was when they did a Signs scene where the guy that crushed the protagonist's wife against the tree with his truck, looks at her husband when he arrives at the scene of the accident and says, "Hey Frank, I'm gonna need a ride home." I forget the names, but you get the idea. It was stupid funny, and I enjoyed it. It helps if you've seen the movies referenced, as that really adds to the humor. You will get the references then, and not just be laughing at a random situation.

The last movie I saw on DVD was Basic, with John Travolta and Samuel L Jackson. Me being a HUGE fan of The General's Daughter, and hearing that Basic was like TGD, but on crack, I picked it up previewed for $10 and really liked everything but the end. I won't ruin it, but I didn't like it at ALL. Everything else about the movie was great. I give it a 3.5. I was on the edge of my seat through the whole movie, then I was pissed off at the ending.

Directed by Federico Fellini Background: A movie director, Guido Anselmi, is being pressured by his producers, the media, and his friends and family to begin shooting his new movie. His producers are filming screen tests for the possible cast, securing locations, and even building a gigantic spaceship to use as a set for the new movie. The problem is, Guido has no idea what his new movie is about, as the script he wrote is a complete mess. My take: I watched this classic foreign film for the first time a week ago. My initial reaction after it was over was "What the hell just happened?" I knew that there portions of the movie that I thought were absolutely brilliant, but there were also stretches that I felt were lagging. I've now seen it 3 more times, and also read the booklet included with the DVD, which provides a lot of commentary and explanation. I'm now convinced that this is one of the greatest movies I have ever seen, and I have still yet to uncover many of its secrets, as I haven't watched the commentary on the DVD yet. Not an easy movie to get into, but an unforgettable experience if you are willing to delve. 11.5/12 (I like using a 12-pt scale. 9/12 is extremely good, but not 'classic'. 10+/12 is so good that it's classic. 12/12 is untouchable.) |
