Legally Blonde II. 1.5/5 stars

This movie appears as though a movie studio executive decided that since the original made money, just slap on the title and you have guaranteed box office. Oh yeah, you do need to see what was funny in the first movie, and overplay it in the sequel. Bad script, unispired acting, and definitely too much pink.

Best line in movie:"I love my sissy dog!"

Absolutely incredible. I freakin' loved it. There were a couple of minor issues, but I had such a huge grin on my face the whole time, I didnt notice it too much

Bad Santa.

Hmm.... I had high hopes for this flick, and was pretty let down. In another thread here, someone was saying it was a great black comedy, comparable to the likes of Heathers. That set the bar high for me, but it didn't live up to the hype. It had some funny parts, but it was mainly just some chukle-worthy dialog.

2.5/4.

Paycheck 3/5 Predictable. The mystery is supposed to be in these items that he leaves himself, but I figured out most of them before he used em in the movie, so that was kinda boring.. but a decent movie all around. Altho not the best acting from Uma or Ben, but wtfever.

la nuit americaine : film by Truffaud about moviemaking. fun but not as fun as i thought it was at my first viewing. (ageing badly)

father of the bride II : lightweight movie, got me nervous because of the baby thing. (wife wants baby, i'm not ready yet)

infernal affairs 2 : if Tarantino can borrow from asian movies, asian movies can borrow from american classics. superb follow-up to the HK succes takes a different road and shows the rise of the triad imperium from the first movie. some scenes are similar to 'the godfather' but the movie is good enough to stand on its on feet. great acting by Francis Ng , Anthony Wong & Eric Tsang.

the cell : the movie is borderline bad, but the 'dream'sequences stand strong thanks to the great visuals.

Wow, it's been several movies since I've posted in this thread. I just finished up with Gangs of New York. Before that I watched Chicago. I think both films are excellent, but I definitely think the Oscar should have gone to GONY.

The other night (I believe it was Thursday) I stayed in and watched Turner Classic Movies all night. They showed the following four films I'd never seen before:

The Time Machine (1960) - It was pretty good. I liked it much better than the shitty 2002 remake.
Soylent Green - Despite the fact that I knew the ending I still enjoyed it. It was an interesting look at a futuristic dystopia.
Sleeper - I think this is the first Woody Allen film I've seen all the way through. It was pretty funny stuff. I'm going to have to try to watch some of his other stuff.
Metropolis - I didn't think I'd be able to get into a silent film, but I watched it anyway because I'd heard several good things about it. I was actually very entertained, and it had some pretty cool visual stuff going on. Especially considering it was made in 1927.

I watched Chasing Amy the other night and I really really really love it. I had seen it before about a year or two ago, but I have watched it a few times since I bought it and I think it may just be my favorite Kevin Smith film.

4/5

I also just bought Good Will Hunting. Now this is not directed by Kevin Smith, but it is produced by him and Scott Mosier. I love this movie and it deserved all the praise it got. Everyone did a great job acting in it, especially Robin Williams. He was amazing. He is one of the greatest actors around and this is one of his greatest roles. The movie is just so great on so many levels, if you haven't seen it I highly reccomend it.

Paycheck, hated it. 1 out of 4. Mundane, uninteresting, slow, boring, horrible dialogue, ridiculous having John Woo direct this hunk of crap. Couldn't decide if it wanted to be an all out action movie or an intelligent thriller.

Worst movie I've seen in quite a while.

I would love to read the novel that this movie, and the video games are based on. The concept and story, although abit slow in the movie are great. The movie makes the games that I already loved so much better. This is my new favorite videogame/movie if it can be called that.

the core : this could have been a great film. John Amiel knows how to shoot a movie. he showed us in 'Copycat' , so what was he thinking while shooting this movie ? i still enjoyed it, but some plot elements are so ridicoulus you feel ashamed for the screenwriter. Do not attempt to watch with your brain active. 2/5

Tonight i have to chose between 'rules of attraction' (loved the book) or 'tomb raider 2 ' (very bad reviews).

Rugrats Go Wild.

Not bad as far as the Rugrat's go. It's probably better than it should be because of the Wild Thornberries that are in it too. Bruce Willis does the voice of the dog Spike which is pretty funny.

Reading all of the other movies listed above makes me wish I could see stuff that kids 5 and under aren't supposed to watch. Speaking of that has anybody seen The Swimming Pool? It's not out on DVD yet in the states til Tuesday but I know it had a fairly successful theatrical run. Just wondering if anyone has seen it.

i could complain about the bad exposition, the lousy dialogues, the utterly stupid story, the lack of any suspense. but i won't. what is worth complaining though : only in one shot there are nippels visible trough the clothes. and then they wonder why it failed at the box office. ... shame shame...

THOSE WERE NOT PROPS!!! AAAAAAAAAA!!!! (Sorry)

Theatre: LOTR ROTK - 11 of 10. I have been waiting for this movie for 20 years, and Pete Jackson totally came through with it. The better than perfect (as in changing the standard for fantasy movies) rating should imply a complete lack of flaws, and, really there aren't any. Even what I expected to be the most disappointing thing about the movies, totally removing 3/4 of the end of the book, turned out to be exactly what was needed, given that the movie was 3½ hours long. Had they done the Scourging of the Shire, they would also have had to do an intermission, and Theatres don't like to do that any more (the bastards). But, honestly, I never expect to see a better movie than that if I live to be 1000.

DVD: X2
What rating this gets depends on what you're looking for. As a comic book on film, it really worked well, particularly as a Marvel comic, which are, as any avid comic reader knows, laden with cheese. The dialog was the kind you could almost see the speech bubbles, the acting was stiff, the plot sterotyped. Like I said, a comic book.

As an action film, it's excellent. The opening scene where Spoiler: Nightcrawler gets into the Whitehouse and nearly knifes the president to death was both excellent and completely unexpected. At the end of the film Spoiler: Jean Gray dies saving them all which is good, as it will dramatically improve X3, character wise if not in terms of scenery.

However, all the things that make it a good action move and an excellent comic movie make it a not quite as good as average movie overall. Stiff acting, silly plot, poor writing, cheesy ending vs perfect opening scene and state of the art and then some special effects. I don't consider it time wasted, and I will certainly watch it again, just not in an awful hurry.
5/10

Cold Mountain

It was a good film, but I'm really surprised that it's receiving a lot of Oscar buzz. Renee Zellweger was really good, and should definitely be nominated for Supporting Actress. Aside from that, however, I just wasn't that impressed.

//Edit: Just found this quote on Rotten Tomatoes that sums up my thoughts pretty well:

"Not that there aren't award-worthy performances here, there are. And not that it isn't good, it is. It's just not THAT good."

I would give it around a 9/10.

Really enjoyed the movie. Battle scenes were probably the best part of it. I think that Tom Cruise did a very good job as well as the supporting cast. They were very believable. I also liked the soundtrack. Seemed to suit the movie really well.

An ok flick, with a rent.

I haven't seen Seven Samurai yet, but it's a Japanese film I do believe. 'Twas directed by Akira Kurosawa if my spelling is correct. I've seen The Hidden Fortress by him and it was a beautiful movie.

I was pleased with the theatrical cut, but the extended cut is even better. Faramir's motivation is better explained, and the Helms Deep battle is better concluded. I really think it helped flesh the movie out even more.

Stupid movie that tries to think that it's intelligent but isn't. Good if you want to feel smart after being perplexed by Memento... which I wasn't. Would be a 0/10 but Samuel L. Jackson was the movie's only saving grace, with an awesome (as usual) performance. John Travolta, however, SUCKED. I wish he had never started acting. He should be imprisoned for crimes against humanity for some of the shit he's turned out.

I saw The Last Samurai this weekend. It was an excellent movie, wonderfully done. I give it 8/10 only because I wish they had expanded more on the "love story" that was underlined in the film. It was a beautiful, almost artsy, dramatic film. Very calming and absolutly excellent.

I was completely caught off gaurd with this one. A friend heard from someone that it was a good movie so I went to see it with him. I was expecting a good civil war flick, not something that fulfills the area romance. It had both. Which is how I ended up liking it. It starts off as a tragedy.. and then romance, and a happy ending(for the most part). It also has some good 'feel good' parts to it. On top of that, the whole "civial war" feeling was shown through-out.
