Ripped Off
Ugh sorry guys for posting something not very constructive and not asking a question of any kind.
I am angry because I learned that I was just ripped off. A few weeks ago I went to a local computer shop to upgrade parts of my computer. I already had a a8n-sli, 3.0ghz 939 amd chip, 6600gt vid card. I wanted to replace my crt, upgrade my ram, boost my psu. I ended up getting a viewsonic VX924. Its 19" LCD and it has a 4ms response time. I bought the thing for $520. Now I just found a few stuck pixels on the screen but I cant return it or get it swapped. I just checked newegg and over there its only $350. ugh...today is not my day. |

Well, you learned the hard way. It's not helpful now, but it will be in the future. Any time I'm going to spend over $100.00 on a single item, I set a day 2 days in the future. I have to spend those 48 hours shopping around and reading at least a few reviews. I've yet to have a problem ever since.
Don't feel bad...I learned the same way you did. Only mine involved about 10 times as much money and a car....

Asuke, make more noise. To the store manager, given the size of the package you bought. If that fails go directly to Viewsonic. Doesn't hurt to mention the price you paid. Their agents are typically allowed to make exceptions for the more feverish customers. They won't give away the store but they're usually flexible if there are more than a couple stuck pixels.

Sorry to hear that, it sucks getting ripped off. I recommend http://techbargains.com/ they have a ton of great deals posted there, if you know what you want, start looking here for it, new stuff is posted daily. As for the dead pixels, usually the standard is less then 8 and you’re stuck with it. suggestion, call the company and just say it was DOA, and do an advanced replacement, also known as cross shipping, they send you a new product and then you send the first back to them in the same package, they usually need a credit card number incase you don’t actually send the old one back. They get the old one back, ‘fix it up’ and sell it as refurbished to some one else.

I don't see how ripped off applies here, you should always check prices elsewhere before making a purchase, especially when buying from a "local computer shop" which to me means PC World, which isn't exactly the cheapest in the market. And as for the issue with the pixels, as Dilbert says, that is usually the standard with a lot of TFT manufacturers where it concerns replacement for stuck/dead pixels. I think there are different classes of screen where the class dictates the number of dead pixels that are acceptable for each different class, think I read that on Toms Hardware.

1. Why can't you return the 19" LCD? How long did you keep it??
2. If the local store jacked up the price and somehow lured you into buying it, then it's a ripped off. Otherwise you are just a careless shopper. 3. Comparison shop - prices. I always check prices at Newegg, Tigerdirect and vendors from PriceWatch. 4. Comparison shop - quality. Google the product you are interested, read user reviews, comments before you open your wallet. A few dead pixels may still be under the manufacturer's spec, not much you can do there. |

Usually with LCD screens, the manufacturer won't honor a defective exchange unless there is at least the same amount of pixels as the screen size. So a 19" must had 19 dead pixels to be honored. Its a stupid rule, but thats how they do it.
