1. Why can't you return the 19" LCD? How long did you keep it??
2. If the local store jacked up the price and somehow lured you into buying it, then it's a ripped off. Otherwise you are just a careless shopper.
3. Comparison shop - prices. I always check prices at Newegg, Tigerdirect and vendors from PriceWatch.
4. Comparison shop - quality. Google the product you are interested, read user reviews, comments before you open your wallet.
A few dead pixels may still be under the manufacturer's spec, not much you can do there.
