Top OS X Downloads
This (among the two other variations of it for different major OS's) was one of my favorite threads on TFP 3.
List your favorite suggestions for OS X downloads here and briefly explain why. I really can't recommend any since I don't use it but go ahead! |

Games!
I'll start with the things I know and love, games.
Kiki the nanobot: Kiki is an amazingly good game. It won the uDevgame contest (best overall), and I can see why. next we have: NetHack: If you don't have it, you don't have anything. Seriously, try it out. And for number 3 Vendetta: If you like pretty graphics, and fun, this game is for you. It's good. Very good. Next time I'll have some usefuller things to post |

NetNewsWire has totally changed the way I get news and read blogs on the internet. It's an RSS Web News Reader. Also avalible in a free lite version (NetNewsWire Lite) that isn't missing anything from the reading parts. Only the weblog editor and the notepad are really missing.

Firestarter FX is a very cool new CD burning program with features such as Overburning, and just like TFP its free to use and you may donate when possible.

It's all about the Pop-Pop, one of the most enjoyable games ever! It's like a head to head breakout game from Ambrosia Software. (http://www.ambrosiasw.com)
And I could not live without WindowShadeX (brings OS9-style window shading back to OS X). (http://www.unsanity.com/). Finally, I love Watson. Even with the copy-cat features of newest version of Sherlock, Watson is still, hands-down, one of the most useful utilities ever. (http://www.karelia.com/watson/) |

Ack, been too long! Surely other cool freeware/shareware has come out!
Ones that I find essential are:
Phew, I think those are the only ones I use. For the record, all the red words are links to the product's page, and all were hand copy/pasted and all that. This post has taken almost twenty minutes. So ever if you hate Macs or these programs, click one so I don't feel like it was all a waste. :P Hopefully there are other Mac fiends out there with just as fun apps. Don't be shy!

Zip Tools is nice also. Granted zip will be built into 10.3, but for pre 10.3 it is nice to have.

Top Mac downloads?
Since there is a great Windows download thread going, I figured I'd start one for the Macheads out here.
For me it has to be MenuMeters (monitors system vitals) QuickSilver (keyboard file\app launcher) OnyX (gives me system control) Temperature Monitor (keeps an eye on my temps)

A recap!
In a pathetic attempt to bring life to the topic, I'll give this post a bump.
Yesterday, I backed up my important files and reinstalled OS 10.3.7. I wanted to clear out all the accumulated crap. Now I'm trying to find good apps. Here are ones I'm sticking with so far: Firefox - Seriously, the best browser out there. It has some aspects I'd like to change, but still comes out better than Safari. The variety of extensions/themes make for an individualized browsing experience. iTunes w/iPod - Orgasmic! I have 14 gigs of music, perfectly coordinated between the two. It was actually easy to set up iTunes without losing my old playlists! (Though I can't say the same for iPhoto. Grr.) WeatherDock - Heh, I have to admit that I only got this program twenty minutes ago, after seeing brandon11983's post. I used to play around with WeatherPop, but it just brought frustration. This proggy looks like it will work perfectly and for free too! LaunchBar - Fantastic proggy, enough to make me feel guilty for not paying the shareware fee. I find it alot faster and easier to use the keyboard rather than working with the GUI. (Yeah, I know, but you know what I mean.) Synergy - This is one of the few shareware programs I've bought and actually used for several years. It basically adds aspects that iTunes doesn't have. It can place a set of buttons (next song, pause, etc) in the menu bar, allows hot keys with the same functions (if my hands are off the mouse), and can display a floating box with song name, album, etc. It used to eat up my processor, but it is good now after playing with settings. gCount - Shows in the menu bar if I have email. Can also be used with Growl for the prettiest notices. VLC - Phew. Finally, I can chuck WindowsMediaPlayer. I haven't used it much yet though, and am crossing my fingers that it can correctly handle most clips. Macaroni - With this application, I'll set a new system uptime record. It allows you to schedule a time to run the UNIX cleaning commands, and repair disk permissions. I put my computer to sleep at night, so this allows me to keep everything in order without messing with cron commands. Now for programs I like, but haven't utilized to their full extents: Roxio Toast 6 Remote Desktop RealPlayer - Ugh Office X - If I didn't get it for free, I'd go with Open Office . NetNewsWire Lite MacTheRipper GraphicConverter Final Cut Express clamXav BBEdit Lite Adobe Photoshop Elements 2 Acquisition I bet you liked how that last part was in reverse alphabetical order. What about you? Found any new OS X applications? hints? tips? I've modified my boot image and panel.

While searching for some software on my new iBooK, I found this thread and thanks for the suggestions !
Adium is a kick-ass IM client, better than gaim on linux, and trillian on win. Here's a few other newer progs I've picked up and looking good so far. [note: all are freeware, unless noted][Post p2p apps ? hmm..maybe a separate thread, i dunno] airstumbler - to help 'find' any wireless connections to use unrarX - extract RARs on your mac I'll be adding more as I get more acclimated to my tiger.. BTW - Can anyone recommend a [free or otherwise] audio cd ripping app and listener besides iTunes !? I prefer my music to be OGG format... regards, keyshawn
