yeah that was a terrible call and cut. He was getting pretty handled though. That knee bar by Lytle was pretty wicked too.

This weekend. It's been interesting seeing the UFC try to put forth the image that Hardy has anything more than a punchers chance against GSP. Also go Carwin. Lesnar needs to fight someone other than Frank Mir.

I really like dan hardy. I don't think he will beat gsp but I really like the guys. Like I said I doubt he will win but I will be rooting for him. I'm sad that alves had to pull out of the fitch fight. I wanted to see fitch beat him again.
Also, whoever wins mir/carwin will be fine by me I like em both.

They're showing the fight at the local movie theater here. I'm going to see it on the big screen! Really looking forward to that.
I think Dan Hardy is a super-tough guy, and is definitely a good challenge for GSP. GSP's my man, but Hardy hits really hard, and is definitely the real deal. Then again, I was worried when GSP fought Alves, and GSP walked right through him. Looking forward to a great, tension-filled fight. I feel bad for Mir. He keeps having to fight huge muscular guys that outweigh him by 30-40 pounds. UFC needs a super-heavyweight division. Watching People like Mir or Nog have to fight someone like Lesnar or Carwin is just stupid. I pick GSP and Carwin (although I really like Mir).

Carwin suprised me with that. I knew gsp would win but I had hopes for hardy. GSP just doesn't entertain me. At all. He is a great athlete but damn I just get bored when I watch him.

I was pleased with Hardy in his ability to not get submitted. He just needs to learn how to sprawl.
I like GSP, but tbh, I think he's peaked now. I'd love to see BJP and GSP fight again. I hate BJP, but the man is fucking awesome now that he's really dedicated himself and I think the fight would be a lot better than the last one. BJP might actually be able to take GSP. |

Mir weighed in at 265 for this fight so he's no longer a small heavyweight. Was glad to see him get destroyed. I was a big fan of his untill ultimate fighter and lost all respect for him.

I can't believe he was 11 for 11 in takedowns. BJ needs to actually win some fights at WW before he gets a shot at the belt again. Personally I'd like to see BJ fight Hughes for a third time. Assuming he beats Hughes (and if he cant then he needs to stay at LW) he needs to beat a top contender like Fitch or Alves. If he can beat one of those two then he deserves another shot. Also I really hope we get to see Carwin test Brock's chin. That's still a big question mark for me in regards to Brock.

Perhaps GSP is the best fighter ever in his weight class.. would anyone say that about BJ? I can't stand the mouth on BJ, but when it comes to 155, he's lethal and frankly, one of the best I've ever watched. I think BJ's main problem in WW is that he only goes up to WW to fight GSP or Hughes and doesn't really spend time allowing himself to adjust to the weight fluctuation. It would take him more than the training time for one fight to really get used to his body like that. Maybe we'll eventually say that GSP is the best ever in his weight class and BJ is the best in his natural class, but it would be nice to see BJ beat GSP once so we can at least have two more fights to look forward too. Also, yeah, I'd love to see Carwin rock the fuck out of Lesnar. |

As a BJJ / Wrestling fan, that was one hell of a match to watch. Complete clowning from start to finish. As for gucci's comments re: "peaking" I call total, unabashed bullshit. GSP did, in fact, toy with Hardy for much of the fight. If you were watching, during one of the breaks his corner was telling him to stop trying to submit and go for some G & P to mix it up. Next round comes up and he promptly takes Hardy down and the ground and pound ensued. It looked like a practice sparring match rather than a title fight. As for not finishing the submissions, yes, there were technical errors in the armbar (knees not tight together, didn't pull the arm at an angle). But quite frankly, I think GSP thought he would seriously injure Hardy had he pulled any harder (heh). I don't think GSP is the type of fighter to want to end someone's career over a submission... Particularly when he was not being provided any meaningful opposition up to that point. GSP owns the WW division right now. Any talk of a GSP vs BJP 3 is worthless, until BJ proves he can win at that weight, as was said previously.

Ace: you obviously didn't read the whole of my comments. I said he's either peaked or he was toying with Hardy. It's easy to say that GSP was toying with Hardy and it's a valid argument as Hardy just couldn't do anything once he was taken to the ground. GSP is a beast, but that doesn't mean he's invincible.

I went back and re-read your second comment about "peaking" and it makes sense now. I was basing that on your first post. I'm on the end of a night shift, so sue me haha.
He isn't invincible, no. Every champion loses eventually. I just don't see any slowing down in that fight. Basically front-to-back ownage. Once he loses a round (no, he hasn't lost a single round in as long as I can remember... help me out someone) then I will agree he may have peaked. As of yet, not a single fighter can even win a round against him (discounting the last-second armbar win by Hughes and Serra's haymaker). ---------- Post added at 04:52 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:50 AM ---------- Also, I don't think his inability to submit Hardy was a sign of "peaking" as you state, but of Hardy's fucking zen-like determination not to tap out. Guaranteed he couldn't wipe his ass on Sunday the 28th.

And, Ace, either you believe that GSP is a nice guy who doesn't want to hurt opponents or you believe what he said at the post-fight press conference that he was trying his hardest to rip Hardy's arm off.

He was hurt for half the Alves fight.
The truth is I was a little disappointed that he didn't finish Hardy but it wasn't for his lack of trying. He just made some mistakes (not closing his legs for the armbar) and Hardy was a tough, tough man for not tapping on either the armbar or the kimura.

That's prettty much what it is. He's so much better than his competition but I wish his fights would end rather than be 5 rounds of him dominating but not finishing. I may just be upset that people booo Jon Fitch but cheer GSP for fighting very similarly. Seems like a double standard to me.

I like GSP as a fighter but he's boring because he meticulously sticks to his gameplan and doesn't take many risks. That with the fact that I don't think he's going to beaten by anything except puncher's luck for a least a few more years.
WTF Spoiler: I just saw Penn lost to Edgar via decision? How the hell did that happen?

Wow, I'm shocked that Frankie kept it competitive much less got a win over Penn. Oh and Anderson needs to make the permanent move to 205. That was a joke just like Cote and Leites (although at least Maia tried more than Leites).

Silva tried to embarrass Maia and he did that in the first two rounds, but by the end of the fight he did nothing but embarrass himself. He said in the post fight interview that Maia disrespected him in his pre-fight comments but the only thing I could see in his pre-fight comments are that he could submit Silva if it went to the ground.
I gained a lot of respect for Maia, he brought it even though he was completely outclassed in the standup (unlike Leites) and I had him winning rounds 4 and 5 on the feet. Silva needs to retire or switch weight classes. He said he wants to move up to HW, I say fine and if Dana White is as mad as he seems at Silva, I say his next fight should be versus Cain to teach Silva a bit of humility. Also, god damn Edgar was awesome and Munoz and Dos Anjos put on great fights.

So what are your guys' thoughts on the fact that Anderson Silvas gloves weren't taped or signed before the fight like everybody else's were? Isn't that a huge omission?

Looks like BJ's getting an instant rematch.
Edgar-Penn Rematch in Works for Late Summer, Fall As far as AS's gloves, apparently there's nothing in the rules against them not being taped, it's just uncommon.

By the way, I'm really really looking forward to Mousasi/King Mo fight on Strikeforce this weekend.
Also Aoki/Melendez should be good too. Add in Hendo/Shields and this card is better than most of the UFC's PPVs, good on Strikeforce for putting it together.
