Ok, consider the two following quotes:

#1: "It's better to burn out, than it is to rust."

#2: "It's better to burn out, than fade away."

name the song and artist for each lyric.

Paradise Lost 11-19-2004 11:58 AM

#1: Neil Young - Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black)
#2: " "

Someone else can ask, I just like to answer/learn.

Sion 11-19-2004 05:35 PM

Paradise Lost is correct on #1

we need an answer for #2

God of Thunder 11-19-2004 06:11 PM

#2 Def Leppard - Rock of Ages

Would have never known #1

Actually, that's what I thought. But it turns out to be much more self-serving that that. Both James Hetfield and Mick Jagger are alcoholics who no longer drink.

I'd heard that about Clarence Gatemouth Brown. He played in New Orleans and forced the bar where he played to turn all the TVs off there, too.

Sion 11-20-2004 05:18 PM

GoT or Paradise Lost, we need a new question from one of you two.

jrhupp213 11-22-2004 01:27 AM

In fact, "My My, Hey Hey" has the first line, but "Hey Hey, My My" only has the second line, which is present in both songs. Unless I got them backward. However, since it's been a day and a half with no response, I feel like I'll go ahead and post the next question myself, if that's okay with everyone.

It was widely known that John Lennon was responsible for the naming of the Beatles. Because of its peculiar nature, people frequently asked Lennon where the name originated. He got tired of trying to answer the question honestly, so he made up a story. What was it?

Fly 11-22-2004 06:44 AM

it was a mock of buddy holly and the crickets...........so he named them the beetles...which they changed too the Beatles.

close?

Sion 11-22-2004 10:54 AM

someone correct me if Im wrong, but werent they calling themselves the Silver Beatles at first, later to drop the Silver?

Sion 11-22-2004 06:22 PM

been a couple of days since the last question was asked. so Im jumping in to keep things moving.

Q: What do "Rocky Racoon" from the Beatles and "Locomotive Breath" from Jethro Tull have in common?

Sion 11-24-2004 12:26 PM

bump^^^^^^

QuasiMojo 11-24-2004 05:58 PM

I think you've come upon a Stumper my friend.
Pray tell, What does "Rocky Racoon" have to do with "Locomotive Breath"?

(I actually really need to know now!)

Sion 11-25-2004 01:20 AM

QuasiMojo, read the lyrics to each. It'll probably jump out at you.

If not, I'll post the answer later today.

Booray 11-25-2004 06:59 AM

I was wondering if it was lyrics yesterday, but didn't want to cheat and look for them on the internet. Couldn't pin down any similarities. Now that you confirmed it, tried singing them in my head again and think the answer is that they both mention Gideon's Bible. If I'm right, someone go ahead and ask the next one.

Sion 11-25-2004 08:17 AM

Damn Booray, you must have an excellent memory for lyrics. Rocky Racoon is fairly easy to remember, but getting as far as the mention of Gideon's Bible in Locomotive Breath is impressive.

Booray 11-25-2004 05:26 PM

for some reason, I recalled the Gideon's Bible part in Locomotive Breath FIRST. "something something Gideon's Bible, open at page one". :)

trying to come up with a question, but having trouble. anyone who wants to ask one, go ahead (unless I come in and make another post with a question :) )

jimk 11-26-2004 09:16 AM

God of Thunder 11-27-2004 05:53 PM

Since it's christmas time, I'll ask a related question.

Thurl Ravenscroft, who is best know for being the voice of Tony the Tiger ("Theyyyyy're Grrrreat!!") sings what Christmas song made famous in a made-for-TV movie?

My favorite song, from my favorite c'mas movie of all time ever......

Mr. Ravenscroft sang "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" for the animated Dr. Seuss c'mas classic "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

And I'm gonna have to pass again. I just can't seem to think of a question.

radioguy 11-28-2004 01:47 AM

there is an 80s band called "GTR", what does "GTR" stand for?

*blushes* I know the answer to this one, but since it's 4:20 in the freakin' morning, I'll give someone else an opportunity to at least read the question and give it a go..... I'm no closer to a question of my own anyway, lol.... heheh

radioguy 11-28-2004 03:28 AM

you're a good sport Bryndian_Dhai. do you know what guitar player, in the band, also played with Yes, Genesis, and Asia?

Bryndian_Dhai 11-28-2004 04:03 AM

Yup. I love GTR, lol. *grins*

Yes he did.

Man, I wish I could sing bass like that guy.

I think my favorite cover of that song is on a "Various Artists" c'mas cd that I bought several years ago. The Whirling Dervishes did the cover, and it's awesome.... *grins* I originally thought it was the guy from Crash Test Dummies, y'know? I mean, how many rock front men who sing basso can YOU think of offhand, lol.

Harry Cox 11-29-2004 05:18 PM

So, what's the answer to the GTR question?

GTR is the industry abbreviation for "guitar".... the founders of the band were both guitarists: Steve Hackett, of Genesis and Yes, and Steve Howe, of Genesis, Yes and Asia.

Somebody else has to ask the next question. I'm a dry well.... too many c'mas carols reverberating through my congested, sinus infected head. *grins*

Bryn

jimk 11-30-2004 11:55 AM

i'll take it!!

on their first few singles, before topper headon came aboard, who was the clash's drummer?

Lol... sure, go ahead, but I won't promise I can answer harder questions!! *grins*

BTW, y'all can call me Bryn... my whole name sounds like such a mouthful, lol. *winks*

perripken 12-03-2004 05:32 AM

Ok folks, I've been standing back for quite some time- both because I wanted to see some new blood take over (I must say I'm quite pleased) and... because my computer is a problem child- needs a serious overhaul. I loved GTR- my favorite song was "The Hunter" I have it on vinyl and would love to get the CD. I also loved Asia, and since you brought them up here is my question:
Geoffrey Downes played in Yes with Hackett and Howe, what band did he come from and what were they best known for. I am going to pm the answer to my cohort God of Thunder just in case my computer bugs out. And yes... there was a hint in there!

vanblah 12-03-2004 08:43 AM

You start to show your age with stuff like this ... so I am going to hold off answering for a moment.

Age is only a minor setback!
Sorry for putting that stupid song in your mind, Bryn. I can't believe Geoffrey Downes even had anything to do with that group.

hawkeye 12-04-2004 02:47 AM

I'm a big Asia fan, but I just don't know the answer to this one.
maybe if I listened to the radio more, but I just watch MTV, lately.

EDIT: this was meant to be ironic.

Actually watching MTV is part of the equation. It's actually the key point to the answer.

Geoff Downes was a member of the Buggles, who had the first video on MTV.

Now I know all of you read that Perripken PM'ed me the answer, but you also have to believe that I knew that before hand.

For fairness sake, I'll toss the next question out.

LoganSnake 12-04-2004 07:29 PM

Well, since nobody's asking anything, I might as well join the fray with two questions at once.

Name three bands that include Mike Patton of Faith No More fame.

What was the name of the Nine Inch Nails song on the Tomb Raider soundtrack, and who directed the video?

God of Thunder 12-04-2004 07:34 PM

Per the rules, lets keep it to one question at a time. It makes it easier for everyone.

First one to answer either question wins. The other question will be a bonus.

As for myself, I have no idea.
