God of Thunder 03-01-2004 05:15 AM

Yup.

Looks like I almost had a stumper.

CCR had seven songs reach number two. In most of the cases (I'm not certain this happened with all seven) the reason they couldn't get to number one, was that The Beatles held the number one spot.

You're up mml.

mml 03-01-2004 02:26 PM

Wow, I was right.

How about this one:

What group was formed by Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company), Chris Slade (Manfred Mann), and Tony Franklin (AC/DC)?

I think this will be an easy one, but we will see.

God of Thunder 03-01-2004 02:33 PM

Duuude!!!!!!

That was going to be my next question!!!!

Cue the Twilight Zone music

I just heard them on the radio the other day and it brought back memories.

mml 03-01-2004 02:51 PM

Thats too funny, I heard them on the radio this morning, and figured it would be my question if I got CCR right. Do you want to answer or give someone else a chance?

God of Thunder 03-01-2004 06:32 PM

I'll let someone else try it. If no one else steps up, I'll answer.

Sion 03-01-2004 10:45 PM

"What group was formed by Jimmy Page (Led Zeppelin), Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company), Chris Slade (Manfred Mann), and Tony Franklin (AC/DC)?"

almost too easy: the Firm

my question:

name the album by a certain classic rock band that had 4 different covers and came packaged in a plain brown wrapper.

bonus points if you can name the pseudo-country/western song on this album that is titled after a type of food by big-city street vendors (and also at ballbarks everywhere).

Fly 03-02-2004 03:31 AM

led zeppelin..........in through the out door.

hot dog is for bonus points.

assuming i'm right.....name the lead singer of mother lovebone that died of (go figure)a heroin od.

the remaining members went on to form pearl jam.

perripken 03-02-2004 06:04 AM

I don't know the answer, although I love pearl jam.
Trivia Buffs:
I sent a PM to God of Thunder yesterday to let him know that I have made a tough decision to get rid of my internet service for financial reasons. I know that Thunder has a new baby and that limits him from keeping this thread moving... I'm asking some of you regulars to help him out. He suggested that I get one of the free providers, and that is a possibility, although I'm spoiled with high speed right now and don't know if I can be patient enough to surf with dial up.
I do have internet at work and will check in at least once a night, but I don't like surfing too much at work mainly for the fact that I should be working!
I won't keep any more of your time, and am sorry I had to use this thread to let you know, but didn't see any other way. I just want to say thank you to all the contributors. I've learned alot more trivia, which was my goal in the first place.
Peace!
Perripken

sherpahigh 03-02-2004 07:12 AM

The answer to the mother lovebone question is Andy Wood.

As an extension to that question, who was one of Andy Wood's housemates who wrote some songs in tribute to Wood then went on to record those songs with members of Pearl Jam and what was the project called?

Thanks perripken for starting the thread and keeping it in line. Hopefully things will move along nicely in your absence. Also on that note, I'm leaving right away on business again, the hotel should have an internet connection but if I don't respond to the answer by late tonight the answer is easily found on google.

pan6467 03-02-2004 08:18 AM

Perrip hope all goes well and you will be missed. Nice to know you will be here once a day tho.

Have no clue as the 90's and today's music just doesn't get me.

I can answer the second part of that question, in that the project was called "Temple of the Dog". The song "say hello to heaven" was about Andrew, I believe. I'll guess on the first part, though, and say that it was Chris Cornell. Man, that was a good album :D

You're right on the album and good guess on Cornell. That's the guy. There were a few songs about Andrew I think. I'm pretty sure Reach Down was one that Chris wrote right after his death. Super album though.

You're up.

kulrblind 03-03-2004 04:26 AM

Hmm, okay. Sorry 'bout the wait, folks. My question (resist the google, my son...):

"What was the name of the rock band on The Muppet Show?"

God of Thunder 03-03-2004 06:57 AM

No google need.

I believe it was Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.

kulrblind 03-03-2004 07:09 AM

So right, GOT... your serve.

God of Thunder 03-03-2004 07:46 AM

Damn, I even know my Muppet trivia.

OK, another easy one to bring in some fresh blood.

What band was formed with members of Styx, Night Ranger and Ted Nugent?

pan6467 03-03-2004 08:31 AM

an eeeeeeeeee mal play drums

all I could remember about the band

GuttersnipeXL 03-03-2004 08:50 AM

Damn Yankees yes?

I think I'm correct, so here is my question...

Turtles members, Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman, famous for their hit "So Happy Together", went on to sing with what group?

God of Thunder 03-03-2004 11:17 AM

Because I hate not knowing, I cheated.

I did not know that.

Possible stumper here.

perripken 03-03-2004 06:45 PM

Great question gutter... I too had to cheat!
GOT... I can't believe I wasn't here for the Damn Yankees question! Styx is my favorite all time band. I saw Damn Yankees in concert. I wish they'd do another CD. The combo of Tommy, Ted, and Jack was awesome!

God of Thunder 03-03-2004 06:50 PM

Saw 'em with The Madman in Detroit on new years eve 1989. Awesome show.

pan6467 03-04-2004 04:05 AM

Hmmmm I know Ray Davies of the KINKS produced one of thier albums. (The Turtles that is).....

Had to Google great question. Never would have guessed.

GuttersnipeXL 03-04-2004 06:22 AM

What happens now? Should I give away the answer,or give it some more time?

God of Thunder 03-04-2004 07:05 AM

Rules are that if no one has answered in 24 hours, it is ruled a stumper (yay you!!).

You give us the answer and you ask another (hopefully easier) question.

GuttersnipeXL 03-04-2004 08:51 AM

It's been 24 hours! The answer is "The Mothers of Invention" led by musical madman Frank Zappa. I would have accepted just Frank Zappa too.

Ok next question...Name the group that the two guys in my avatar were in. Hint: My custom title is one of this groups biggest hits. Good Luck!

pan6467 03-04-2004 09:02 AM

Damn GOT this guy asks some hard questions.......

I'll take a shot, only because the guy wearing the hat reminds me of Lionel Ritchie and say the Commodores.

I know I know brrrrrrrrrrrrrztttttttt wrong answer thank you for playing come again soon.

GuttersnipeXL 03-04-2004 09:20 AM

Your in the right time frame and right genre, however, you are incorrect.

pan6467 03-04-2004 01:40 PM

It's the 'fro's and the clothes that date the picture. Gutter, man you got some tough questions in you.

Good to have you here!

I'll take a stab at Earth Wind and Fire, although, I'm stabbing in the dark!

GuttersnipeXL 03-04-2004 02:27 PM

It's not Earth, Wind and Fire.

Another hint: There song Strawberry Letter 23 reached #1 on the R&B charts in June of '77. #5 on the pop charts two weeks later.

perripken 03-04-2004 03:18 PM

Huge hint! Brothers Johnson

perripken 03-04-2004 03:45 PM

Ok, hopefully this one will be easy. If I don't get an answer before I leave work, I'll throw a couple huge hints in.

Name the band:
Steve Priest, Brian Connolly, Andy Scott, Mick Tucker

GuttersnipeXL 03-04-2004 04:13 PM

That's correct. I have not the slightest idea on your's though, those names are unfamiliar....

perripken 03-04-2004 05:20 PM

Ok folks, I'm going to give a big hint....
In the beginning lyrics to one of their biggest hits, the lead singer says:
Are ya ready Steve?
Uh huh
Andy?
yeah
Mick?
ok
Well alright fella's... let's go!

Sion 03-04-2004 10:10 PM

perripken, your hint was too easy and gave it away.

the answer, of course, is Sweet. the song from the hint is "Ballroom Blitz"

ok, my turn:

what musician from a "New Wave" band big in the 80's (primarily) did the original music for the movie Four Rooms, featuring, among others, Tim Roth and Quentin Tarantino.

hints to come, if necessary

Sion 03-05-2004 09:54 AM

hints:

the group came out of northeast Ohio.

the band featured a pair of Bobs, and two sets of brothers.

the answer to the question is not one of the Bobs.

God of Thunder 03-05-2004 05:31 PM

resists the urge to look it up and takes a guess based on clues.

I know that Danny Elfman works a lot with Tim Burton, but not sure if he ever worked with Tarantino...Also not sure if they're from Ohio.

Might be Devo you're taling about, so I'll go with Mark Mothersbaugh.

/crosses fingers.

Sion 03-05-2004 08:51 PM

damn good guess there GoT.

your question.

God of Thunder 03-06-2004 07:08 AM

Well, they were pretty good clues.

This one should be easy enough for some of you. I won't be able to check in later, so if ya think ya got it, just ask away.

What underground band was formed by Berklee College of Music students.
