I have one......... This band was forbidden to tour with the Beatles because when they did the crowd would boo the Beatles offstage and want this band back on........ No not the Stones
|
It seems we have a little dilema here. Sion asked a question which was already asked, but in reverse order. I don't really think it's fair as GOT says, to expect people to read all the pages of this trivia. Therefore, I think it's a valid question. The other part of the dilema is that Pan6467 has asked a question without answering one. To me it's always good to see new blood in here, so I'm asking Mr. Sion, sir, could we let Pan6467's question stand?
I would also suggest that Pan6467 check out the thread rules. I'm not sure what page they're on, I'll have to go back and check. |

I agree, let the current question stand. I like fresh meat, er I mean new people in the thread.
btw, good question, I'm a big Beatles fan and don't know the answer. |
I do appologize for just jumping in...... and I will give a proper hint...... this band was banned from the US for 2 years in the late 60's and therefore never truly reached the commercial success they deserved.
|
the yardbirds?
i dont think they got banned but they are the only band i can think of at the moment and yeah GOT is right, good quesion |
No not the Yardbirds.
This band became predominantly British in its music after it was banned by the US Musicians Unions (various reasons as to why..... ) Thank you for appreciating the question. |
Banned in the US, and wasn't allowed to open for The Beatles??????
Auuuuugghhhhhh!!!! Damn it, this is killing me!!!! |
I am ok with letting the current question stand, especially as I dont know the anwer.
the answer to my question was, of course, Sting. but im sure most of you knew that. I would have responded to this last night, but my ISP decided to pick that time to freak out. |
Thanks a bunch Sion!
|
I second the thanks Sion, and I hope you didn't take my comment about your question as rude or anything.
I know it is hard to remember what has been asked in here. Hell, I didn't even remember that I was the one who originally asked it until I looked it up. |
Ok last clue this should give it away.............. during a fight onstage in the 60's the drummer threw a cymbal at the lead guitarist (and lead singer's brother) and left him unconcious on the stage. The drummer found later had been scared he'd killed the guitarist. This started the rumors (often true rumors) of the fighting and hatred that was in the group, which weirdly enough through it all stayed together till 1998 and today they are talking of reforming.
|
The Kinks???????
|
You are correct. The Kinks were the only band the Beatles refused to tour and/or share a stage with because the Kinks would work the crowd into a frenzy with thier music and stage antics. In those days all the bands would pretty much tour together. Can you imagine seeing the Beatles, Stones, High Numbers/Who, Kinks and Moody Blues together on the same bill?
Of course each band except the main band would only play for 15-20 minutes........... |
PS sorry for the shameless plug but being a Kink FanatiK I just had to share.
|
Not at all, great trivia question and welcome to our board!
By the way, didn't Dave Davies just get shot? |
Thank you for the reception, promise no more Kinks questions
No that was Ray. He was shot in New Orleans as he chased the man who stole his lady friends purse. From info they say it was not major and Ray is doing great. Guess one of those kids in Father Christmas got a gun so he could scare all the other kids on the block. Have hope have faith have love, Phil the mad Heretic |

But back to the real point. I got the question right. Well, I guessed right. OK, keeping with the British theme. When Def Leppard guitarist Steve Clark died in 1991, they replaced him with Vivian Campbell. What band did he come from? |
Honestly, God it was Ray taht was shot not Dave.
Vivian didn't he come from Coverdale's band Whitesnake...... only reason I know that is because Tawny Kitaen was Coverdale's woman at the time. |
Vivian Campbell was also in DIO and the Riverdogs
|
Well, I knew it was one of the Davies that was shot.

That's cool , ask away!
|
Ok an easy question.......... so don't all type at once.......
Someone in a famous group discovered Van Halen and helped produce thier first LP, who was it and what band was he with at the time? |
Gene Simmons of Kiss?
|
Wow, someone else asking a KISS related question!!!
Too cool man:D btw riderough. that is correct. Eddie and Alex re-paid them later by visiting KISS in the studio and was said to have recorded a version of "Christine Sixteen" with the band. KISS was going to put that version on their box set, but for unknown reasons, Warner Brothers wouldn't give permission to use it. |
When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin was originally recorded in 1928 by which artist?
http://home.ripway.com/2004-2/66160/jimmypagegibson.jpg |
Can't answer this one...... even tho I think I know the answer it would be against my Kink Kultist rules. Zeppelin does not exist, Page keeps harping how HE was the man who did the guitar work on You Really Got Me. IT WAS DAVE DAVIES and he razor bladed his Elpico amp to get the sound. EVERYONE admits that Jimmy, even those that would love to have hurt the Kinks. You sat in a few sessions with them like you did with the Stones and the Who and the Beatles but you actually did very little for the Kinks. He lies and wants credit for everything....... lol surprised he never said the solo in Satisfaction was his idea. Oh yeah, and Page was not even the best guitarist in the Yardbirds in fact when he was the lead the band folded. Clapton and Beck ran circles around him. Sloppiest player to ever live.
Sorry won't breach that subject again...... unless asked or brought up. |
ouch!
I love Pagey's playin' but to each his own... I never really got the appeal of the kinks but if you dig 'em cool. |
and I am much sloppier than Page!!
|
We all have our likes and dislikes. The Kinks are an aquired taste, I'm a lyric driven listener and Ray is a genius at his lyrics on society.
Page isn't that bad, I just resent the fact that the man would try to take Dave's thunder from him. I mean face it Page will always be well known, not many know who Dave is (although he is a great lyricist and guitarist when not self destructing)....... but his riff on You really Got Me will always be known. |
true...lets agree to disagree....and get back to trivia!

This is a trivia thread. Lets stick to that. This is the current question. Quote:

You're the man tritium!
next question. |
Dire Straits was an opening act for what major band?
|
I'm gonna take a long shot here and say Pink Floyd.... think I once read Mark Knopfler and Dave Gilmour were close friends.
|
I know they once toured with the Talking Heads, but don't know if that's what you're looking for.
