Pigpen. Can't think of his real name.
|
Correct! Real name Ron McKernan. Take it away Tully.
|
Ok, where did Radiohead play it's first gig?
|
No one?
Clue- tavern that lunched a few bands back in the 90's. |
I'm a big radiohead fan, but it's limited mostly to the music...I don't know much about their history and all that...
|
Ok, times up The Jericho Tavern, Oxford.
Ok, lets try this again... What Detroit rocker co-wrote The Eagles #1 hit "Heartache Tonight?" |
It doesn't sound Henley to me so I've got to guess Glenn Frey?
|
Would that be Bob Seger?
|
That would be Bob Seger.
Yer up. |
Thanks!
Which 1970's-80's punk/post-punk outfit used to open their own shows as a satirical Christian soft-rock band named 'Dove'? |
No idea but sounds like something the Velvet Underground would do.
|
nope, not even close...think a little later on...
|
Hmm, Dove... Devo?
|

Never heard that before, complete shot in the dark. I credit a report of maps.
Who was the first bass player for the Rolling Stones? |
Let me go for the stupid and obvious: Bill Wyman.
|
Nope
|
Couple more hours and I'll post an easier question.
|
Dick Taylor was the first bass player for the Stones.
Whats the first song ever written by Jagger and Richards? |
Is it a well-known Stones song?
|
It was released by them but was a hit for another singer. My guess is you've heard of it.
If this one proves too hard also, I'll accept the first #1 UK single to be written by Jagger/Richards and released by The Stones. Sooner or later I'll find a Stones trivia someone knows. |
Was it 'As Tears Go By?'
|
As Tears Go By, which made Maryanne Faithfull a star.
---------- Post added at 04:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:31 PM ---------- Dang it, MM. Cross posting.... |

Their first #1 UK single? "This could be the last time" |
yikes, I missed this last night somehow...I'm pathetic at keeping up with updates, heh.
anyway, wow, I'm really surprised that was the first song they wrote...it's so sweet, lol ok... Which 1980's new wave diva contributed vocals and voiceover dialogue to the Frank Zappa concept album Thing-Fish. |
Was it Ronnie Specter? (Or the woman from 'Til Tuesday whos name escapes me?)
Kills me I don't have the immediate answer to a Zappa question. |
Nope, think early '80s...the only clue I can think of right now would give it away, I'm afraid.
|
Patti LaBelle?
|
Nope. I should have specified that she was part of a group. She was the lead singer of the group and had some notoriety for her over-the-top sexual persona.
|
Don't know her name but pretty sure it's the chick from Missing Persons.
|
Quote:
I was going to hint that her husband was a drummer for Zappa, but I thought that might give it away. And he, of course, was also in Missing Persons. you're up, Tully, again  |
Ah! I always confuse Til Tuesday and Missing Persons. And Kajagoogoo. And Bow Wow Wow. And Howard Jones. I think it has something to do with the hair.
|
haha, that could be it.
I associate Missing Persons with my first car, therefore, you know it's sentimental... Just picture it: 1982, 17 years old and in beauty school, '78 toyota corolla w. a tapedeck... |
You're kidding about the 78 Corolla, right? If you say white H/back I'm gonna be weirded out.
When did Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young first preform? |
Quote:
was it Woodstock? |
Whew!
And yes at Woodstock. Ya never know what people are going know. UBUP... no UB40 questions please. |
that's fine, 'cause I know nothing about UB40.
What was the Talking Head's only Top 10 American hit? (too easy, probably...) |
Burnin' down the house?
|
ya. your turn. :)
(i knew it was too easy) |
First one that popped in my head.
With a cost total cost of £12,500 what was the name of Dire Straits first album? |
It was "Dire Straits" No?
|
It was Dire Straits, yes. Too obvious?
Yer up. |
Sneaky obvious. If I didn't have all their early albums in order, I might have gone with "Love Over Gold"
So, Dire Straits means really good Guitar work to me, which leads to: On What David Bowie Album did Stevie Ray Vaughn provide the Lead Guitar tracks? |
interesting...would that be Let's Dance??
|
Put on your red shoes and dance the blues......
Indeed it would. You're up, mm. |
/smacks MM up side the head
Yo wake up! |
hey, yo, what already! :p
uhhhh, ok...what 50's/early '60s R&B singer started his own record label featuring great (but nearly forgotten) classic soul artists such as Johnny Morrisette, Billy Preston, The Simms Twins and The Valentinos? Extra credit (which, of course, means nothing) if you can tell me the name of the record label. |
I have no clue, never heard of half these people.
But bump. maybe someone else will know it. |
No one even wants to venture a guess?
I'll give a hint that will probably give it away...he died tragically (and too young) in 1964. |
No help here, the first though I had was quickly killed when I remembered that happened in 59'.
|
ok, one of his most famous songs experienced a revival of sorts in late 2008...
|
ah crap. I was drawing a blank so I googled r&b artists who died in '64. You guys are going to kick yourselves.
|
Sam Cooke?
|
lol.....
|
Well MM?
|
oh, doh! I'm so sorry. I'm not sure why I keep missing this thread's updates.
But yes, Tully, you are correct! And Sam Cooke's record label was SAR Records. :) |
Never knew he had a label.
Ok, Bruce Springsteen's nickname is "The Boss" what's origins? Bonus points if you know his previous nickname. |
I am a huge Springsteen fan, but had to google this so I'm out. I will be interested to see the answer since when I googled it, I got quite a few. Thanks for this question Tully Mars!
|
Have anything to do with the 1979 Diana Ross hit of that name?
|
No, I heard his answer to this question on an interview I watching when I was making up the question.
It's about as simply as it sounds. |
So Bruce says to Clarence Clemons, "Big man, play it a little more....[whatever]", and Clarence says, "OK, you're the Boss."
Something like that? |
No, maybe this is too obscure. So.... according to the interview I saw Bruce said early on his nickname was "Doc." He didn't explain why but went on to say that one of his first paying gigs he was hired my a band call "Earth." He didn't much care for the music they played or the other members, but it paid. He said back in the early days making sure the club owners paid the band wasn't always pleasant nor successful. The band regulated this task to Bruce starting on his first day. He always made sure they got paid and he split the cash up with the other band members. Within a few gigs another band member stated, to him "You're the boss! Hey everyone the new kids the boss!" And it stuck. He said he didn't care much for bosses and preferred Doc.
Give me a few and I'll come up with another Q. |
Okay, sorry been powerless, literally for a while...
The Pointer Sisters hit number two on the US charts in 1979 with what Springsteen song? |
I have been trying for years to erase the existence of the Pointer Sisters from my memory. With some success, even though I saw them live once. That said, I'm thinking the answer to this is "Fire". And my FSM have mercy upon me if that's right.
|
You're on fire and you're up.
Ummm, sorry? |
Drat. Got it right. Obviously I am not drinking enough.
After fronting Iron Maiden for some years, Bruce Dickinson took time off to produce a solo album that was released in 1990. Name it. |
Man....I never bought this album even though I liked Iron Maiden. Couldn't tell ya without cheating!
|
Hmm. Hint: There is a cover of the Mott the Hoople Cover of the David Bowie Tune, "All the Young Dudes" on there. Apparently Bruce wants to relate to you.
