Dr. Evil: The key to this project is the giant laser, which was invented by the noted Cambridge physicist, Dr. Parsons. So therefore, it is fitting to call it: "The Alan Parsons Project". [Scott snickers] Dr. Evil: What? Scott: The Alan Parsons Project was a progressive rock band from 1982. Why don't you just name it Operation Wang Chung, ass? |

Alrighty. I've cropped a small square from an album cover. What album is it?
http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/...Album-snip.jpg http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/1...bumsnipwn8.jpg |
Sjt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band ?
|
Correct... I guess I'll have to make it harder next time :)
|
cool... I just had a feeling... a feeling deep in side, oh ya.
here's a geographical trivia questions: The song 'Running Back to Saskatoon' is by the Guess Who. How many places are referenced in this song? Extra merit for naming them. |
hmm 65? I got nothin..
|
Yeah me too, I thought the song was called "Running 'round Canada."
But if we're throwing out wild guesses I'll take the 11 spot. |
I'll bet a nickel a Canadian ends up getting it right :)
|
Not necessarily. Guess Who went platinum in the US.
|
OK, I'll bite, who went platinum in the US?
And I'll take the 23 spot. |
Quote:
haha. who's on first? The Guess Who - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 11, 85 & 23 are all too high |
no guess here, and to think that "The best of the Guess Who" was my first album!
|
The Guess Who was one of my mom's favorite bands. I had to sing the song to myself, but I come up with:
Moose Jaw Moosumin Red Deer Terrace Medicine Hat Saskatoon Hong Kong So, six. Unless I missed a verse somewhere, or remember the song wrong. |
Pretty close Anxst (s/b 8) You got the one that most people miss (Hong Kong) but you missed Broadview, and Red Deer & Terrace are two different places.
But game on to you for an admirable try, as I had to google to get Broadview myself. |
Quote:
I had no ideas Red Deer and Terrace were seperate places. Well, at least I remembered most of the song. So, we'll go with a globalization question. White Stripes offshoot The Raconteurs had to rename themselves for the Australian market due to an issue with an Australian band already having the name The Raconteurs there. What do they call themselves there instead? |
The Saboteurs.
Don't really know how I know this. |

What was the first CD to ever be printed and released in the U.S.?
|
If I remember correctly, it was Bruce Springsteen's "Born in The USA"
|
Indeed, you do remember.
You're up God of Thunder. |
Let's stick with The Boss. This one should be easy enough.
Hands on buzzers... Who was the actress that appeared as a "random fan" that Bruce pulled out of the audience in the "Dancing In The Dark" video? |
courtney cox?
|
Yup, told you it was going to be easy.
|
what song is used in Battlestar Galactica as a linking melody for the cylons in the new series?
|
Umm... It has a title?
|
It does. Not the theme, but the song in the episodes that the cylons keep hearing in the background.
Hint, it was written by a folk artist, and popularized by a rocking bluesman. |
I have no idea but by the clue I'd guess something by Thorogood.
So, Bad to the Bone? |
I have no idea.. I didn't know they used any existing music.. I really don't pay attention to music and well I'm not exactly up to date on my BSG :)
|
I'll give it to Tully... I don't think anybody will get this without google. But I did ask around the neighbourhood (last night, informally) and got a 50% hit rate on the answer, I don't think that there's a wide enough audiance in this thread.
ans: All along the Watchtower by Dylan. |
Quote:
I guessed Thorogood, if the answer is Dylan why give it to me? I'm lost. |
No question for a few days so I'll pick it up.
Jeopardy Style! "Surprise, Surprise, Surprise!" An Episode of Gomer Pyle USMC can be heard in the background to this song.. |
I know for certain it's off of The Wall album, but what song....
I think it's the one that starts "Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?" was that song "Nobody Home"? |
"The Wall" has both the songs "Vera" and "Nobody's Home" and I think you're right the line's in "Nobody's Home." It's either that or "Bring the Boy's Back Home."
Edit: Just saw that Richard Wright, a founder member of Pink Floyd, died today at the age of 65. Guess he had cancer for sometime. Feel for his friends, family and fans. |
Yeah, It's Nobody's Home!
balderdash111, your turn. |

Ok, a quickie - name all of the top 5 selling albums of all time (as of today, Sept 15, 2008). They don't need to be in order. No googling (Edit: after my own quick google, I realized I should clarify this as figures differ. top 5 selling albums of all time, according to the RIAA) |
Thriller, The Wall, Hotel California, Born in the USA and Garth Brooks Greatest Hits?
|
Quote:
Edit: hell, I'll make it easier. the first 2 are correct |
Quote:
|
Hmm.. I remember looking at this a few months ago but can't really picture the list in my head.
Beatles - White Album Eagles - Greatest Hits Michael Jackson - Thriller Pink Floyd - THE WALL Led Zeppelin - Zeppelin II ?? Edit: Changed Dark side of the Moon to The Wall :) |
Quote:
More hints: one of the remaining 2 albums is Zeppelin, but not II. The other is by another well-known hard rock band Edit: Is anyone else likely to try this? |
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Pink Floyd - THE WALL Led Zeppelin - IV (Zoso) Fleetwood Mac - Rumors (If you were in a sudivision in the late 70s, they dropped a tape of this and Steve Miller's greatest Hits 71-74 through your mail slot.) AC/DC - Back in Black |
Quote:
The first to put the pieces together wins |
So the fifth would be Eagles, Greatest hits, Vol 1. (I just loaded vol 1 and vol 2 into iTunes last night, so it's fresh on my mind.)
|
Quote:
So, the complete list is: AC/DC - Back in Black (never would have guessed it - would have bet money that Rumours sold better) Pink Floyd - The Wall (surprised it wasn't Dark Side of the Moon) Led Zeppelin - IV (aka, ZOSO, aka Runes, etc etc) (again, never would have guessed it) Eagles - Greatest Hits, 1971-1975 (I'd heard this, but am always surprised when reminded of it) Michael Jackson - Thriller (no surprise there) |
Danke schoen, balderdash.
Blue Oyster Cult trivia, sort of. Michael Moorcock, the well known epic fantasy author, creator of the Elric of Melnibone, wrote at least a pair of songs for Blue Oyster Cult: "Black Blade" and "Veteran of the Psychic Wars". He also did occasional stints as a singer for what British space rock band? |
Lemmy Kilmeister was an early member of the group....
|
hawkwind
|
I liked Moorcock's Eternal Hero series... I even named my first son Elric. Well... Eric anyway, and we call him Elric for fun.
|
Roachboy for the win. Take it away, Roachboy!
|
ok since lee scratch perry is now my "friend" on one of another of those ridiculous networky sites that i once was interested in for a while, a scratch question. but it's easy.
perry ran one of the most influential studios in the history of dub. it burned down in 1983. what was the studio called? bonus: name 2 bands who recorded there. |
Quote:
Black Ark, if you go to Kingston you can take a tour that will take you by his old house, which is a liquor store now. Only band I can think of is The Wailers with Bob Marley |
you are correct, sir.
you're up. upsetters, max romeo, the congos--the list is big big... |
Quote:
Sticking with Marley: Marley was born "Nesta Robert Marley." Later he went by "Robert Nesta Marley" and finally "Bob Marley." What caused him to change his name? |
I bet it was pressure from the recording studios telling him Nesta just wasn't a marketable name! right!??
|
Quote:
No and much more mundane "Bureaucratic" reason. |
Could it be that Nesta is a Girl's name? (Nestor being the boy's version.)
|
No, sorry. Thought this was pretty well known among Marley fans. Actually I thought it might be a urban legend but Wiki backs it up.
If no one gets it by tomorrow I'll post a "give me" to keep this game from dying again. |
Howsabout he was dodging taxes.
|
Not tax related. Government related, but not tax.
|
He was wanted for some crime or another? Perhaps shooting the sherriff but not the deputy? I kid.
He was avoiding legal troubles for a bit of pharmacological gardening? |
Quote:
|
Maybe because he had like 42 kids and was trying to get out of child support payments?
|

I'll give it another hour, give the answer and toss up a softball. -----Added 23/9/2008 at 06 : 26 : 57----- Hour's up. The answer is a Jamaican passport official accidentally swapped the names and Marley didn't challenge it. Next question: Who are the Glimmer Twins? Bonus points name the first song they wrote. |
Ah.. I think I remember hearing that before..
McCartney and Lennon? I know it's wrong.. I have a few more guesses in me though :) |
Quote:
|
Right era, wrong subculture.
If I'm not mistaken, the Glimmer twins are another songwriting duo, Jagger/Richards. |
Damnit, it is! I knew it was songwriters but Jagger/Richards wasn't even on my list of guesses!
|
Yep, the Glimmer Twins are Jagger and Richards.
The first song they wrote was "As Tears Go By." They thought the song sucked and gave it Marianne Faithfull. The first song they wrote and recorded by The Rolling Stones was "The Last Time." My Ex is a Stones fanatic. She even named our street after the band. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3055/...27a3cf.jpg?v=0 You're up Mr. Martian. |
ok, I'm going to restart this.... I love all you folks... you all do a great job:
Neil and Tim Finn were pivotal musician's in the band Splt Enz. what band did Neil start after Split Enz? |
crowded house?
|
crowded house, i think.
|
Leto and Roachboy, I'm so sorry that it took so long to get back to you on this. I found out on the day I posted this that my mother had passed away- very suddenly. I had to travel to North Carolina to make arrangements and am just now finally getting back to my TFP family. You are both correct at the same minute, however Leto beat Roachboy to the punch. Good answers! Now through MP3 technology I have downloaded most of Crowded House's music, and must say I really enjoy it! Your question Leto!
|
Perripken, my condolences on the loss of your mother. I know you will get through this, and are here for you.
I was a big fan of Split Enz and 6 Months in a Leaky Boat is running through my head now. So... keeping on with the Down Under theme, what band started by Angus and Malcom Young's older brother had us BRIEFLY doing the African Shuffle? |
Was it George Young with Flash and The Pan?
|
you got it Daniel
along with other hits like Hey St Peter, and Walking in the Rain. |
thanks for your kind words Leto!
|
Thread kind of died with Daniel. I'm going to start it with a give me...
What singer did Ed Sullivan refuse to show from the waist down because his hip movements were deemed inappropriate for a family show? *not suggesting Daniel died, just the thread* |
That must've been Elvis "the Pelvis" Presley.
/ I think we can all be thankful that his brother Enos never went into show business. |
Bingo!
Go Top. |
Right then...
There was a time when the lineup of the Grateful Dead included a married couple. Name them. |
Quote:
Mr. and Mrs. Uncle John? Or... The I don't have a Clues? |
A hint then: The keyboardist and a singer.
|
Keith Godcheaux (or however it's spelled) and his wife...Donna? Deanna? Man, I was never a huge Deadhead, but one of my old roommates was a huge fan of them; posters and records everywhere.
|
Precisely. Keith and Donna Jean. I too suffer a surfeit of trivia from living with deadheads. Apparently the one show I went to (Hampton '89? I think) was their worst in 15 years. So....
I digress. Take it away Anxst. |
Ah, the things we pick up by association.
Okay, I can't think of anything good. We'll go with an easy one. Danny Elfman started out in a performance art group in the early seventies that later morphed into Oingo Boingo. What was the original name of the crew, when they were a performance art group? |
I believe that would be "Who are the Mystic Knights of Onigo Boingo?" Alex?
I'll be shocked if I got that right. |
Quote:
You're up. |
Cool!
Two amazing drummers died in 2008. Name both of them and the artist they both played drums for. |
I think 2 of Zappa's drummers died, right? If I'm right about that, I gotta guess Bozzio was one of 'em.......
|
If Terry Bozzio died, it's news to me (and it just might be)
Nope. I'm thinking of someone else. Just as brilliant as Zappa though. Any other guesses? |
Chad Whackerman and Neal Peart? (I don't know if either of them is dead, but worth a shot.)
|
that would be Mr. Mitch Mitchell and Buddy Miles that played for Jimi Hendrix
|
Mitch Mitchell, Buddy Miles- drummed for Jimi Hendrix
-----Added 14/1/2009 at 04 : 52 : 11----- Loo, Special K beat me by one minute! That's ok= I don't have a new question! -----Added 14/1/2009 at 04 : 56 : 46----- Quote:

Whew! Thought I'd made it too hard. Special K's right. Next one's yours sir. :)
|
OK well here is mine -
Who holds the record for most #2 hits? (That is they never reached #1) Hint: the record is 5 |
i assume we're talking about billboard pop charts?
could you say the genre without giving the question away? |
Yes the billboard top 100 charts and the genre would be classic rock
|
Rolling Stones?
|
nope not the stones.
