Ok, let's get the old music trivia thread going again.
If you are a newbie, the rules are pretty simple:
Answer the question correctly, you get to ask the next question. Wait for the asker to confirm that you are correct.
A question is deemed a stumper if it is not answered correctly in a 24 hour period. At that time, the original asker gives the answer and comes up with another trivia question. Simple, eh?

I'll ask the first one:
In light of the recent mistrial of Phil Spector, What artist did a song that quotes Phils ex wife Ronnie and she actually sings the quote in the song?

Should be pretty easy!

This is just a guess based on the only surf rock band I know to have played at the Touch and Go concert, but I'm going to say the group in question is Man...or Astro-Man? I don't know if they did stunts like that but I certainly wouldn't put it past them.

Waiting for confirmation.

I was a huge fan of theirs during the 90's. Between them, Big Black, and Killdozer, I wanted to be on that record label so bad when I first formed a band.

miles davis wanted to assemble the greatest rock band in the world.
between 1969 and 1975, his bands toured rock venues, being put on strange double bills with neil young and the steve miller band at the fillmore for example.
this audience cross-over meant that miles' bands of this period were not only lovely, but were also career-making gigs for many of the band members.

This one I know. It was DJ Supreme, if I remember correctly. Funny thing was, he planned on coming up with another name for it, but this one stuck.

i was thinking q-bert, who coined the expression in the mid 1990s to differentiate more underground, skill-heavy dj practices from what has become mainstream. right about the time that copyright-infringement-suit happy people were driving dj practices underground. if mainstream hip-hop blows now, these lawsuits are a big reason why. go american copyright law!

here's an easy one.
cream had a huge hit with "spoonful"
its also been covered by every blues-influenced artist in the universe--my favorite version is by koko taylor.

I've been reading up on bassists lately, and thus I know that Spoonful was actually written by the one and only Willie Dixon.

Let's get a little more modern now.

Although he's best known for his bass skills, this man originally started out playing trumpet and had no ambitions whatsoever to join a rock band. He still plays the horn regularly now, and has appeared blowing his horn on albums for Jane's Addiction and the Mars Volta, among others.

I'll continue with the "Who am I?" line of questions. I like that format.

Having lost a lung in the Korean war, I found myself unable to sing, so I focused on guitar playing. I recorded the only instrumental song to be banned from airplay on American radio during the 50's, and punched holes in the speakers of my amp doing it so it sounded more like the live version.

Who am I? (Bonus meaningless internet points if you can name the song.)

It's Link Wray (and his Wray Men). The song was Rumble.

Okay, new question:

Originally formed as a fill in punk act at the First International UK Punk Festival, this band had Simon Ritchie (later known as Sid Vicious) as their drummer. Later, after a drastic sound and lineup change, they went on to influence bands such as Tricky and Garbage. Robert Smith (of the cure) even spent 2 or 3 years in the group in the early 80's.

Siouxsie & the Banshees.......... great band and wonder voice in Siouxsie Sioux.

One of the better "underground" groups (Smiths, Dead Kennedys, Pogues, Psych Furs, Echo and the Bunnymen, the Cure, the Cult, Lords of the New Church, Violent Femmes, etc) of the 80's. My best friend in high school lived for that type of rock, he even named his cat Morrisey. I was 60's and 80's pop rock. I didn't appreciate that music until later in the 90's.

The first one you're talking about is Carly Simon's "You're So Vain", but even she hasn't told who it is about. Rumors have been told that is was about everyone from James Taylor, to Mick Jagger to Warren Beatty.

As for the second one, A group singing about a girl... You're gonna have to get more specific

My guess is KISS singing "Plaster Caster", even though it does not appear on any of their greatest hits packages.

I'm pretty sure you're right on this one Thunder... I saw an interview once when Carly was asked about it, and she kinda smirked when the interviewer mentioned James Taylor, but she wouldn't disclose who it was about. Pan, I'm dying to know the other one!

Yes, "You're So Vain" was the one by the female artist. Perri is right she never came out and claimed it but she has hinted in interviews.

Witchy Woman by the Eagles had a similar rumor.... being about Stevie Nicks This was false, however, there were rumors at the time that Witchy Woman was released, the song was about Linda Rondstadt.

I didn't appreciate that music until later in the 90's. __________________ I just love people who use the excuse "I use/do this because I LOVE the feeling/joy/happiness it brings me" and expect you to be ok with that as you watch them destroy their life blindly following. OR in the 70's a famed group sang about a famed female artist, rumor says... God of Thunder Talk nerdy to me Location: Flint, MI	The first one you're talking about is Carly Simon's "You're So Vain", but even she hasn't told who it is about. Rumors have been told that is was about everyone from James Taylor, to Mick Jagger to Warren Beatty. As for the second one, A group singing about a girl...
