This one's pretty easy, I think...
Which adult film star recorded the disco hit More, More, More (How Do you Like It) in the mid-70's? |
Quote:
|
Bingo. :)
|
Quote:
Ok, another easy one to keep the ball rolling- The opening line of the Stones song "Jumping Jack flash" is: I was born in a cross-fire hurricane What exactly is a cross-fire hurricane? |
Quote:
Cross-fire hurricane=storm of crossfire=firefight? That's about all I got. |
Quote:
I think she did! :) |
Quote:
Yeah, I don't know didn't see a bunch of her movies. But from what I saw she managed to give a BJ without the whole cock sucking thing ever happening. Quote:
Kind of figured this was a gimme. |
I always assumed it was reference to a Hawker Hurricane, the major RAF plane during the battle of Britain.
|

Quote:
Correct! Had to e-mail my friend who was a ball turret gunner in the Pacific. According to him Hawker made both Spitfires and Crossfires. Spitfires were for marine and over sea duty while the Crossfire was an over land fighter. I didn't verify any of that, I take him at his word... but he is in his late 80's so?? I would have accepted the answer regardless of his reply, was just curious what the differences were. Yer, up! |
Quote:
Asking a bunch of music nerds about WWII aircraft may not make for as much of a gimme as you'd think. ;) |
Quote:
Would it have been better to ask who claims to have written the riff for the song and never got credited? My understanding is he's still not that happy about it. |
Quote:
Okay..a question... Elvis Costello got in trouble the first time he played this song on Saturday Night Live, then broke in on the Beastie Boys on the SNL 25th anniversary show (In the middle of Sabotage) and they played the song. What was the song title? |
I'm trying to think of a Costello song that would get him in trouble on SNL.
Alison? I'm thinking either that or Watching the Detectives. EDIT - Dammit, I actually had the correct song as my original guess, but discarded it. I googled it and feel quite foolish now. |
Quote:
I think it might be "Radio, Radio?" |

You're up, Tully. |
TV theme music...
What Canadian born actor wrote the theme music to "Diff'rent Strokes" and the original score of "Wheel of Fortune?" |
Alan Thicke, who was the dad on that show with Kirk Cameron that Leonardo DiCaprio got his start on (late in the run).
|
Quote:
|
Keeping with the TV show theme, let me put one in your head that might not get out all day.
The Brady Bunch The name of the group is enough since they wrote it and performed the version that played the first few years. |
Quote:
I know I've heard this question... and the answer, when it's get answered I'll "D'oh!" I also know I need to get my Ipod going to get the song out of my head now, thanks Jazz. Who freaking started this TV theme music crap? Oh, right... |
i was initially going to say the ramones, because i preferred a version by them to be running through my skull to the original.
i'm going to guess: the turtles. |
Unfortunately, this isn't a group most are going to be aquianted with off the bat. This is most likely going to be answered by someone who whiled away the hours as a child by watching bad reruns.
|
Quote:
It's not the "Turtles?" Huh, guess I don't know what I thought I might have known at some point in life. Not sure if not knowing who did the Brady Bunch theme makes me feel better or worse about myself. |
ahhh... Jan Brady... the love of my life....
Did the Osmands do the theme? |
Quote:
In all honesty I always, even in my teens, wanted to throw Mrs. Brady on the art deco couch, carpet, kitchen counters and nail her until she whimpered. Had similar feelings for Shirley Partridge. Guess I got a MILF thing going on. Oh, and it's not the Osmonds. I couldn't take it any longer and peaked. |
From the onset of puberty, it's always been about Marsha for me. Even today, I'd still jump her bones. After buying her a shake first and lending her my letterman jacket.
And the movie version of her played by Ben Stiller's wife is almost as hot. If this is a stumper, it will just prove that I watched too much TV as a kid. |
I can appreciate the Marcia hotness factor, but Jan had that plaintive look in her eyes everytime Marcia got her way. I knew she was vulnerable, and if only I was nearby, she would be mine! I even liked her new glasses!
|
I think we're good and stumped, Jazz. Lay it on us, and try a new question.
|
I always thought it was the Brady family when I was a kid.
I don't know if I've got the right show, but was it the Cowsills? |
Quote:
So, yeah I think we're stumped. New question please Jazz. |
a brief ultra-tiki experience as we wait for the train to move....
|
Sorry, I meant to deal with this yesterday and plain old forgot.
It's DeVol. And I now have even more proof that I spent way too much time in front of the TV as a kid. Who wrote and performed "A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request" and what's story about it? |
No idea, Jazz. It's an American Sports reference..and I pretty much suck at those, guaranteed.
|
I think it's time for a bump......
John Lennon was an honorary member of "the Hollywood Vampires Club" in the 70's. Who was the founding member and what did one have to do to become a member? |
Good one, Pan. I have no idea. And thanks for picking up my slack. Sorry everyone.
BTW - the answer to mine is Steve Goodman. |
I went through an Alice phase when I was exploring classic rock.
The Vampire Club was a drinking club started by Alice Cooper. I couldn't tell you who all the members were but the initiation (and pretty much the objective of the club itself) was to drink everyone else under the table. I know it was Alice Cooper, Brian Wilson, Keith Moon, Ringo and I think Iggy Pop too, but other than that I'm not sure. |

dead thread I guess :(
I was never very good at it but I kept on hoping that a question would come along that I could answer. |
why does the sun shine?
|
because.
that's obviously correct, so i'll put up an easy question. mike watt has lately been playing bass for what older band now reformed? |
would it be the minuetmen? or maybe the stooges?
jeez, they both kick much ass. |
stooges. the minutemen can't re-form as d. boone is no more.
yer up, comrade. |

a gigantic nuclear furnace where hydrogen is built into helium at a temperature of millions of degrees / Returning you to your regularly scheduled music trivia thread, in progress |
ok wait--that is a better answer than mine was, even though mine was self-evidently correct as well. so.........wanna pose a question?
|
OK, I am going to softball this one - Who were the Grateful Dead's first and Last Keyboardist?
|
Quote:
|
sorry, i was knocked out from the painkillers.
okay... what band changed up instruments and become the Angry Samoans? |
Am I wrong or, after this thread being dead for some time, do we now have two questions on the floor?
|
there are 2.
kismet. |
Quote:
Just checking, was out and about until really late or early depending on how you look at it. Thought maybe my mind was more clouded with more rum then I thought. |
2 questions and I can't answer either of them.
|
Let's cut this down to 1 - Vom became the Angry Samoans.
If that's correct, then let's modify my question (which is, I guess, only a meatball if you lived with Deadheads for 8 years) to: "Who was the Grateful Dead's Original Keyboardist? (The nickname will suffice.)" |
that is correct, sirs.
|
Quote:
|
Let's give this a bump......
Sugar Sugar by the Archies was originally written for this band, but the members of the band had gotten serious and refused to do it...... what band is it? |
My gut tells me it was the Monkees. My gut has been known to be a fucking liar in the past though, so we'll see how that goes.
|

Goddammit, this is my fault again.
I am tempted to ask a question about Monterey, but I know roachboy will nail it instantaneously if I do. So instead I proffer this: What famous Canadian pianist assisted Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi in forming the lineup for the Blues Brothers by bringing in Donald Duck Dunn and Steve Cropper? |
foster?
|
Paul Schaefer, currently tinkling the ivories with Letterman.
|
Paul Shaffer is the man.
Your question, DJ Jazzy Jazz. |
Let's keep on the Blues Brothers theme but make it sort of easy. Name the blues legend that was the only singer to perform without any interaction with any of the cast.
|
From the film, you mean?
John Lee Hooker, if I'm not mistaken. |
From the film, which makes you correct. And which makes it your turn again.
|
John Lee Hooker is one of the quintessential blues men who rose to fame in the fifties.
One of his contemporaries recently passed away. This man was known for writing boastful songs and also for his distinctive instrument. Who was he? And for bonus points, what about his instrument was different? It's easy, yeah. I'm tired. |
Gotta be Bo Diddley, but I can't remember what he did with his guitar other than build it himself out of a box.
|
That is the man and the guitar. So you get the bonus points.
|
Just breaking in.... Sorry I haven't been in touch with any of you in ages. Been doing serious house renovations. I am sooooooo happy that the Music Trivia thread is still thriving. Thank you to all involved!
|
OK,
looks like we need a kick start. Vince Gill was a member of what band in the early 80's? |
OK, it was Pure Prarie League. How 'bout an easier one:
Eddie Money was what before he got into rock and roll? |
He was a New York City police officer
|
Quote:
|
Thunder is correct!
|
Name the original line up of "The runaways"
|
Lita Ford, Joan Jett and ??? I'm sure easily google-able but I won't cheat
|
cheri currie....wasn't there a 4th?
|
I don't know the answer, but I'm pretty sure that Joan Jett is the only one mentioned thus far that is correct.
|
I can't name them all but pretty sure Joan Jett, Sandy West and Micky Steele were founding members. Also pretty sure Lita Ford was added later.
|
Quote:
|
ah but you see afterward i looked---all 3 are right, but there's 2 more...
ok so the problem is now that all the original band member names are up, who gets the next question? personally, i vote tully because he got the less obvious ones. |
Quote:
|
Cheri was not a founding member, she was added later.
I'll give this one to Tully for having the most correct members first. |
What blues-rock performer spent his early career playing minor league baseball while not touring?
Btw- here's a shot of Cherie Currie at a chainsaw carving competition- http://chainsawchick.com/CherieCurrie_mermaid2.jpg It's not one of my shots, I grabbed it off her site. I had a beer with her and her SO at a Shilo Inn bar a few years back. She used to be married to Robert Hays of "Airplane!" fame. She was pleasant as was her friend. I used to go to these things because I was carving. A friend of mine was trying to get me to enter once. Here's a few of my BETTER pieces: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2009/...84674380_m.jpg Now look at her quality and look at mine. Yeah I waved off my friends advice. The event I met her at she carved a really nice looking mystic type lady with a long flowing robe. It was really something... but she lost to a guy who did an eagle catching a salmon out of water. Only thing her and I have in common when it comes to carving is we both use the same brand of saws. From time to time I lift weights too. Not planning on trying out for the Olympics in four years either. |
No one?
Need a hint? The name of this guys band can be connected to Obama in one step... or two- I'm not really sure how that game's played. |
Hate to see this thread die again.
Another hint: He likes bourbon, scotch and beer. |
Quote:
It's George Thoroughgood (or however he spells it). |
Quote:
He played catcher for a minor league team back in the 70's. Quote:
Yer up. |
Alright, let's see where this takes us.
This band of revolving musicians final album, entitled, Freudiana, was sadly never released by the band, as they broke up first. Who was it? (The album was released, but not in the same format as had been planned, btw). |
Hmm, got any clues?
|
Quote:
Pretty much every album the band ever did was a concept album. They put the Progress in Progressive Rock. |
Quote:
So, new question: This band, originally a fictional band spoken of on the first episode of Mr. Show, is really a sideline project for a member of Tool. He claims it's as much a clothing line as it is a band. What's the name of the band? |
The Alan Parsons Project, should have got that one. Well I did get it... but only after googling it.
I'm really out on this one though, never even heard of "Tool." But it's a great band name. |
Perfect Circle?
|
Quote:
Can you believe, he has yet another side project? |
Heh, I know! I know! I'll give someone else a chance to answer though because I don't have a question on hand. I'll think of one and come back and answer if I think of one :)
|
Side note on the Alan Parsons question and I believe it was one of my questions at one time. Alan Parsons was the Principal Engineer on Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon"
|
Quote:
|
Maynard's only been associated with 45 or so projects. I'm pretty sure Pusifer is the one on Mr. Show though. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'll be back later with a question.
