Anyone got a cold?
I dont know how many people are into Herbal remedies but I'm pretty hardcore on that subject. I find it fascinating that you can cure diseases and prevent them from things that come from the earth. I just recently stumbled upon a cold remedy that I'm trying out on this girl I'm dating (I really dont get sick that often because I eat right and I catch illnesses early with a double shot of wheatgrass). The infusion consists of bioling 4 cups of water with 4 grams of Astragalus (a bean root native to north asia known for it's anti-virul properties) for twenty minutes (sweeten with honey, hell, you could even use honey made in or close to your area to rid yourself of your allergies, killing two birds with one stone). It actually tastes pretty good and it's easy to make! You can pick up the Astragalus membranaceous at most asian food stores or some herb shops (shit, some herb stores even have a pre-made tinchures, though the tinchure isn't as effective specifically with Astragalus as it is with most other herbs because the alcohol causes the components to condence out of the liquid, thus they stick to the herb dregs that are tossed out or to the surfaces of the processing equipment) . If you are interested in any more Herbal remedies post here or PM me.

I'm actually just coming down with something. i woke up in the middle of thenight witha runny nose (which has bothered me all day) and i can sort of feel a sore throat coming on. Do you recommend this treatment for a person that is just starting to feel symptoms, or is it something for when a full fledged cold has arisen?

I would reccomend this for someone with either the first simptoms who does not want to get a full fledged cold, for someone who wants to recover from a cold, or someone that just wants to aviod getting sick alltogether by boosting their immune system. Along with the anti-viral properties here are a few other things that Astragalus can help with:
1: It strengthens immunity to disease. It has certain inhibiting effects on molecular pathological changes caused by viruses, increases growth of plasma cells, stimulates synthesis of antibodies, and builds up body defense. 2: It deters aging process and facilitates longevity. It delays the natural aging process of diploid blastocyte, prolonging by one third the life span of the cells. 3: It enhances body energy. It promotes metabolism of serum and liver proteins, stimulates growth of antibodies, increases white blood cells, and thus increases resistance to viruses. It also induces production of interferon. 4: It is diuretic, detoxicating and reduces proteinuria and can help cure kidney disease. 5: It inhibits gastric secretions, reduces gastric acid, and thus may helps cure stomach ulcers. 6: It is cardiotonic. It has even more remarkable effects on heart failure due to poisoning or exhaustion. 7: It protects the liver and alleviates liver injury caused by stilbenemidine. 8: It relieves impotence and frigidity. If you want any more information or want to know where I have gotten my information PM me or post here.

In key here. What kinds of plants are astralgus related to?? I cannot take Echinacea because it's related to the daisy family and I'm quite allergic to that.
I'm also curious about the honey. I find that when I eat honey, depending on the primary flower it's been made from I have often have a sinus allergy reaction. It can even give me hiccups too. I have a lot of allergies and sensitivities and I don't go through one month of the year without a reaction to something. Wintertime is easier on me but even indoors I can run into stuff such as pine and evergreen trees or Euclyptus. I love the taste of honey but it rarely HELPS my allergies. I am currently fighting a sinus infection. Have been for over 2 weeks now. Saline sprays are one of the only "natural" remedies that help much at all. I got a new allergy medication, Flonase, that has worked wonders for helping and the antibiotics were started just in time because that same day I had begun to develope ear pain and a potential ear infection on the same side as the sinus infection. All because of allergies - they suck.

Astragalus is related to the bean and legume family. I'm guessing that your problem with honey is that you are getting just generic honey. The pollon that it was made from could have come from a flower or plant that you are allergic to. If you go to the health food side of your grocery they more than likely will have different kinds of honey made in your area, they will be labled with the type of plant that the pollon came from, I would reccomend you getting one that is not from a type of plant that you are allergic to. I know that honey made in your area wll help build up an immunity to the pollon in the air in your area. What you should do is take a table spoon of honey a day and your allergies should dwindle after the first week and should be completely gone by week two. I hope this helps

I'm sorry but I must be overly sensitive to the allergens. I get my honey from a local individual who collects the honey himself. Most of the honey comes from either clover (which I am allergic to) or daisies. I'm also allergic to goldenrod and ragweed of course, popple trees, pine and evergreen trees, and lilac. I'm not sure what other pollen that I'm allergic to in the plant family. Daisies are such an allergen to me that just handling the flowers with my hands causes my eyes to almost swell such and tears to stream down my face. I don't think I could handle the allergic reaction long enough to get immune to the pollens in my area even if the honey would help me that way.
