Cholesterol in egg yolks
okay....i was reading mens health and it had a page on eggs.....
on this page is basically told u if you buy anything other than normal acme brand...the yolks on you....very funny huh..... said that the cholesterol in a yolk was nothing to avoid..... yet i finnaly noticed a nutrional info tab on an egg carton and saw its 70% of all the cholestrol u supposed to have in 1 day......thats in a single egg....... so how can it not be a concern if you egg 6 eggs a day just wondering |

6 eggs in a day is a bit excessive but overall, Cholestrol in foods isn't bad for you due to many reasons, the major reason is cholestrol in foods doesn't = cholestrol in the body that kills
Now, that doesn't mean go eat 500% of your DV of cholestrol but trans/saturated fats should be more of a concern. Pretty much, cholestrol is mostly used by the body to create hormones moreso then it is used to clog arteries like most are led to beleive, and also your body naturally creates cholestrol on its own, if an excessive amount of cholestrol is consumed the body stops its own production and just uses the ingested cholestrol for all body functions. So in the end, eat a egg yolk or two however, don't eat a ton of yolks because to much cholestrol can be a problem (oh ya btw, its 170% of your DV of cholestrol per egg not 70% unless you have real small eggs) |

Play it safe and just eat the whites. The yolk tastes like crap anyway. I have high Cholestrol (6.7), but it's more to do with genetics rather than my diet.
My Doc said if I must eat eggs, avoid the yolk.

well when i make scrambled eggs i will use one or 2 yolks out of the 4 eggs i eat...so i still get the flavor without the cholestrol.....
but anytime i do some sort of egg sandwich or wrap i eat them with eggwhites because of the other stuff i dont need the flavor....just the protein!

I've started just using 1 whole egg per every 3-4 eggs that I cook. The others, Iwill just use the egg white. Egg whites have tons of protein as well and have VERY little of the cholesterol found in the egg yolk. Most of the cholesterol of an egg is contained in just the egg yolk.

I read in a study somewhere sometime ago which I can't find again, that, eggs contain Choline which supposedly prevents the body from absorbing too much cholesterol. This is why eggs don't (supposedly) raise your cholesterol level. You might want to research this further.

Eggs are perfectly okay.
There's always studies that show the negative side, then there's those that counter the negative studies and show positive sides. If you eat 6 whole eggs a day, you should be fine. It's a bit on the fatty side, but if you workout regularly and eat carbs that are primarily low on the glycemic index, you'll be fine. Even if you don't work out.. I personally wouldn't worry about it. Just keep your protein, carb, fat ratios reasonable. Try to throw in something with good fats (salmon) once in a while. HDL (good cholesterol) found in good fats will lower the bad cholesterol (LDL) in your body.
