a warning to warlocks you must read this and be wary of it plz.. pass it along to all your guild mates and general chat ..

As most of you probably know by now, there is bug on the live realms whereby Soul Shards will “overwrite” items in a Warlock’s inventory. We are currently looking into this issue further and we will keep you updated as to when a fix is planned to go live. In the meantime, I would like to explain exactly what is happening and how you can restore the items that have been “overwritten”.

Synopsis: Your items are not gone forever, they are just stored in an invisible overflow buffer. Read below to find out how to restore your items.

Explanation of the Bug

Firstly, when all player items are saved to the character database, that item is assigned a specific number which denotes which inventory position it is in. When the character is loaded and items are pulled from the database, the items are placed in their corresponding slots in your inventory. If, for any reason, two or more items are pointing to the same inventory slot, one of them is chosen to fill the slot and the other tries to find the next open inventory location. If no location is available, the item is not loaded, but it still exists in a limbo state. Some people are calling this an “overflow” state.

The problem we are seeing today is being caused by the spell Shadowburn. When cast, the spell should expend a Soul Shard, and if it kills its target, will replace that Soul Shard. If you cast Shadowburn while your inventory is full, when you use Shadowburn to kill a MOB that yields experience or a player that yields honor (this will occur in both PvP and PvE), the Soul Shard that is given back to you is sometimes not placed back into the slot that was just freed up by the Soul Shard cost of Shadowburn being used. While you did actually acquire that Soul Shard, it does not appear in your inventory and is actually in your item “overflow”. The item slot that the spell chooses for the Soul Shard to enter is seemingly random. Meaning that for example, the Soul Shard in your “overflow” could be trying to use the same inventory slot as your mount.

If that empty inventory space is now filled by another item and you then logout of the game, when you log back in you have an extra Soul Shard in your “overflow” that has no where to go. Instead of just staying in this “overflow” slot, the Soul Shard switches with the item in the slot it is pointing to, placing your other item into the “overflow”. Each time you login with this character in this state, it is random which one of the items that points to that same inventory slot will actually appear. In other words, you could sometimes login and see the Soul Shard in that slot, and other times login and see the other item in that slot.

With this in mind, the more times Shadowburn is cast while you have a full inventory, the worse the condition becomes. Every time the spell is cast, a soul shard is added to the “overflow” state. As described above, if the newly opened inventory slots are filled, then upon logging out and back in, there is a chance that my items will switch with the soul shards in the “overflow”.

How can I get my items back?

Your items are NOT gone forever, as stated above, they are just in a limbo “overflow” state. Basically, to get your items back, you have to clear enough inventory space to clear this overflow buffer of all of its items. Clear out as much inventory space as possible and then re-log. The items in your “overflow” will then be placed into these empty slots.

If you find that doing this fills your inventory up again, my suggestion would be to repeat the process until you login and still have empty inventory slots. All of your items will be restored.

How can I avoid losing my items in the first place

One current workaround to this problem is to only store Soul Shards in your main backpack, not your other bags. The bug will not manifest itself if you follow this rule. Another suggestion would be to ensure that you are always playing with a lot of empty inventory space.

If any more workarounds to the problem are discovered, I will update this post.

I hope this clears up some of the confusion. Thank you for your patience while we get this issue resolved.

i had my epic mount vanish cuz of this.. and omg did i almost die that day.. the gm didnt belive me so he looked in on my stuff and found out just as the offical post states.. i thanked him for 10 min straight heh.. ftr my epic mount was not so bad to get just a hard ass quest to do.. but still.

So guys I'm about to delete my 50 Shaman and switch to alliance. It's been a very hard decision but two of my real-life friends decided to make the switch and I'm following. A bud of mine found out his real-life friend is concidentally in a really good guild on the opposite faction of our server and there's more potential in the guild for end game stuff. It hurts to leave such a fun guild behind but I think change is good and there aren't any hard feelings as of now. I must say I'm looking forward to it. I liked being alliance in the open beta, and my server is way horde-heavy so now it'l be more of a challenge.

I'm considering rolling either a priest or a warrior. Man I wish alliance had shamans
I hear that shadow priests are the best for solo potential and that dwarves are the best for this. I like humans a bit more, are dwarves that much better?

Thanks guys

Ouch, deleting a 50? Why not just start on a new server? I never found friends to be enough of a reason unless theyre both good friends and friends you know in RL. It sounds like you have unfinsihed business still with your shaman.

Depends if you like casters or melee more. Priests are def powerful, and probably wont get "balanced" in any near future since they are relatively balanced for group vs group. Warriors can be baddass if they have good equipment. While they dont have the burst damage of a rogue, they can do nearly the same damage in fights over 30 secs and given the chance to build rage. I dunno tho, IMO priests are just dang boring.

As for dwarves vs humans (or NE dont forget) just look up their racial spells, thats the biggest difference. But ya I heard dwarves anti fear ward was better, BUT with the new pvp trinkets that may have changed.

Wow, I don't think I'd delete a level 50, but I guess if they're good enough friends that could somewhat be understandable.

I, for one, love being horde. My Undead Warlock is the win. And how can you go wrong with Barrens general chat!?

Yeah I'm definitely going through some regrets. I thought it out over a few days so it wouldn't be a hasty decision, but there were a few things I could never plan for. I didn't realize how personally attached I got to the actual character, not just a "shaman." I noticed this when I began my new player and it felt like it wasn't me, not because of the gameplay but because of his voice, his movement, etc. I try to think change is good, but you're right Zeraph, I do feel like I've got some unfinished business. Maybe I'll petition Blizz, tell them how lame I am, and try to get them to revive him. If not, no regrets and I'll just have to personally balance out the allance/horde problems myself

why would you delete it when it could just sit there? it doesn't cost extra does it?

what's the limit on how many toons you can have across the different servers?

Because my two real-life friends found out that their friend is coincidentally on the alliance of the same server and had in's to a good guild. I figured I'd quit while ahead and dab around in alliance while working on my upcoming summerschool courses. Don't underestimate the attachment to your character if you play for reasons other than power leveling.

Because you can only have all alliance or all horde characters on a PvP server. To prevent "spying" I guess

And Ever, I have heard of them restoring characters so you have a good chance.

They do and I just got an email respecting my petition saying that he will indeed be restored. I've just got to find out what that means though because I have the alliance character I made and it's not like Whorpe the shaman will just pop up in my char menu

Edit: I logged off my NE Priest to find him side by side my Tauren Shaman in the same character lineup, lol. I deleted the priest shortly after I took some screenies.

We all make mistakes, and luckily Blizzard is there to clean things up after us

Gratz bro alliance = stupid. IMHO nay its not an opinion. from every server ive tried i gotta say horde is a family, greedy to a point but not like alliance.

and you can either get a guest pass or a cdkey off ebay and have another account. on bonechewer vm is a popular alliance guild.. and they have a lame 1st lvl troll that pops up every time they raid horde.. chance? i thought so at frist but.. vm moves before we can .. once we stopped using the spatial chat and /say they couldnt stand against us.. can way say teamspeak?

lame

on alliance lothar my mage is finally is a guild. two i was in just split was annoying so now im getting into MC my god thats nasty.

Yeah on kel'thuzad it's about 2.8 alli per horde it's funny too because my level group consistantly owns up bg pvp now that it's a fair fight. Alliance are so accustomed to just not having to do anything they don't have the same skills that horde do.

Man my rouge is level 49 right now on the spirestone server. This game rocks now with BG in place and the honor system its great. The bugs seem to be far fewer. I seem to remember a lot of complaints but I think we should give it up to BLizzard they did a far better job of fixing things and getting that content out.

I still don't notice any difference in player skill in alliance vs horde that everyone keeps talking about. But maybe thats because I normally play on a server that is an equal split (aliance only have like 4% more players).

anyone finding the top end raid instance a bit annoying? the group i ran with is a sorta established guild on lothar, having my 1st two guild either die or merge to a gank squad i moved on. they are partners with a bigger guild. Into MC we went. first thing outta the leaders mouth was.. "you roll on nothing im master loot so i decide who gets what." so im fine with this.

we continue on defeat most the stuff in MC in half a day and night heh.. yet after it was all said and done. I got nothing. no gold no vendor loot (the grey junk) and yet i was not asked to roll on any item i could use.. and a damn +9int 2h enchant dropped..

later on i drug that guild leader in a heated discussion about loot rules cuz the person that got it put that enchant up on the ah for 120g and as far as alliance looting goes on lothar, you win a prof scroll you learn it then and there. she was like "well they said they needed it." and i was like "i told you i was 300 enchanting tailoring, had i gotten it i would have learned it then and there."

seems the yutz keeps cooking recipies on him and everytime he wins a prof scroll instead he learns one of his cooking scrolls to jype everyone.

which caused several of thier guildies to think back and realize how utterly stupid they were cuz you cant learn blacksmithing, tailoring, enchanting and alchemy at the same time..

kuddos for the clueless

I lost my beaststalker cap tonight.

I lost it because somehow, despite the fact that I watched Gandling's life tick from 1% to 0% while I auto-fired, I was not allowed to loot the corpse. I didn't die and release. I didn't get ported. He was wearing a serpent sting DOT of mine when he died. My pet was attacking him. I was shooting at him, had him targeted and was most certainly in combat. And somehow, I didn't "earn" looting rights to the corpse, because I'd somehow gotten "out of range" and "didn't put myself back on his hate-list before he died."

The raid group I was with was dumbfounded. None of us could figure out what had happened or what was going on. They made me the master looter, they made it FFA, nothing, nada, zero.

World of Warcraft can be an amazing game, but the whole point of endgame stuff (for me, at least, and I know for a lot of my friends) is loot. And when you can't loot the item 10 people spent two hours of time helping you get, well, it's a really fucking lame experience. The Blizzard forums have posts about this bug all over the place and the best anyone has gotten is, "We're looking into it."

Ugh....

Looks a little feminine with a floral pattern on the back but I'll live with it (as well as the fact that we've never had an Arcanist Robe drop!) Just need to get rid of those horrible looking shoulders now but I don't think I'll be seeing Arcanist Shoulders any time soon.

I probably should have been paying more attention to the fight instead of getting a good picture, but the fight ended up going ok without me

Shit I'm only 57 and I've clocked in 13days 21hr and only have 142g :x

And a good amount of that time has been spent looking for goddamn ST/BRD groups!

The reason for this is that due to my timezone (New Zealand) when I play nobody from my guild is on hardly anyone at all is so I end up soloing and can't do Elite quests :/

And a good amount of that time has been spent looking for goddamn ST/BRD groups!

The reason for this is that due to my timezone (New Zealand) when I play nobody from my guild is on hardly anyone at all is so I end up soloing and can't do Elite quests :/
During my grind I did 3 instances, Scarlet monastery for rod and hat (got both on the first run), Zul Farrak with help from guildies for carrot and Maraudon for inventor's focal sword (got it on first run through).

The trick to levelling fast is just to pure grind. You waste time doing instances and quests. Grinding is boring as hell, but the game really starts at 60 anyway

I highly, highly, highly recommend Dire Maul east lasher grinding from 52-60 if you are a mage. The xp is insane and you make tons of gold selling the drops you find.

Any tips for grinding locations? Im a 33 priest... We're both casters, so I imagine we'd have similar needs in grinding. Although, I'm horde, so I suspect that will change things a bit

I cancelled my account today. Oh well. The game sucks at 60...it's all about who has the most time and luck to do instance runs. Boooring. I'm now playing Battlefield 2.
