No, it has nothing to do with instances or seperate zones. Some zones are contested meaning that they're fully PVP no matter your level. If you go to an Alliance or Horde town and slaughter the entire village then your raid group or team gets honor points. In other words, there's actually incentive to raid towns of the opposing faction.
I can't wait until they put in these PVP themes. The game will get a hell of a lot more exciting concerning PVP! -Lasereth

i am utterly confused about PvP in the game ..i have read so many conflicting reports that i begin to wonder what is going on
Friend of mine claimed that if you wanted to raid the other factions town you would go there and wait for them to give their consent to the conflict..i was "WTF"..probably the lamest ever..if that is not a misunderstanding then i will stick with DAoC |

The PVP is a bit different from other games but the rules are only to prevent newbie ganking in extreme quantities.
On the PVP server, there are two types of zones: Contested Zones and Non-Contested Zones. In the Contested Zones, any Alliance member can attack any Horde member at any time no matter their level or faction and vice versa. These zones are zones for folks above level 10-20 in most cases. The Non-Contested Zones are places where you have to be /pvp in order to be attacked. These zones are usually the low-level zones. Why is the game set up like this? At level 50+, WoW characters are IMMENSELY powerful and could easily wipe out hundreds upon hundreds of players below level 10 before they have time to react. In other words, newbie ganking is outlawed in the low-level zones. If the newbies ARE /pvp then they can be attacked in the Non-Contested zones as well. If Horde players were to attack an NPC in the Non-Contested zone then their PVP tag is turned on and vice versa. So basically, the PVP servers are still Alliance versus Horde but Blizzard has taken measure to prevent level 50+ players from wiping out entire towns, ruining the experience for lower-level people. Keep in mind that the "real" PVP system is not yet in the game. The Honor System will be implemented after retail which is basically a point system that calculates points based on your PVP successes. If you get a certain amount of Honor points then you get cool individual items or a special ranking. There's much more that hasn't been implemented yet concerning PVP so I wouldn't base whether or not you'll play the game on the retail PVP version. -Lasereth

To continue the explanation,
So Lasereth explained PvP servers but regular servers require you to ask for concent to start PvP. So nobody can attack any one else unless both players agree. Accept in the Battlegrounds where PvP is always on. What this means is that the PvP aspect of the game is being kept to a few zones on the regular server. If players don't want to go there, they wont have too, but if they step into them they can get attacked at any time just as if they were on a PvP server. On the PvP server almost all zones accept the newbie zones are open to PvP but the Battlegrounds are the only zones that offer further incentives for PvP. |

I'd advise playing on a PvP server because on the regular server types it is very irritating to see the enemy faction XPing and /emoting you on your home territory with absolutely nothing you can do about it unless the enemy decides to turn on his pvp flag. Reg server types are also silly because the only time people turn on their flag is when they have a bunch of players with them so they can zerg the enemy. It really takes away from the whole "war" feeling of the game. Go PvP server, you will thank me later |

I've heard rumors of "Hero classes" and that they're supposed to be unlocked after getting an amount of honor points. Have you guys heard anything about this?
I think it'd be great if they implemented this in, to further help out players who hit 60, but have nothing else to do.

Preaching to the converted Plan9. Yet I can see how some people would not want to put up with the frusturation of being randomly killed while leveling. For me though, it adds and extra thrill to the game that I just can't live without, plus all those things you already mentioned.

Will be the European release though..anyone know if there will be differences between the US and the EU servers ? Lineage did this..there are differences depending on region. |
