Playing Final Fantasy 7
After beating Final Fantasy 6 (finally!), you all recommended me to play Final Fantasy 7. I've played it before, but my memory card got deleted by my brother's ex-girlfriend right before Spoiler: Aeris dies. So, I just got through Spoiler: the part where you have to escape the desert prison/see Dyne commit suicide, and I have the buggy. I'm thinking of going back to the Eagle Fort and playing all the Spoiler: mini battles before I move forward.
I dunno...I just might get my game-on at the Gold Saucer for awhile. That's what I loved most about this Final Fantasy: all the sub-quests/games. FF6 took me little over 20 hours, but I'm not even half-way through FF7 and I've already played over 10 hours. All in all, I can't wait to (finally) beat this game, too, and move on to Chrono Trigger (which got the second-most votes next to FF7).

Chrono Trigger might be the best game of all time. Enjoy it after playing the second-best game of all time (FF7).

I put sixty hours into FF7, though I'd say about ten of those were times when I had to go to class and couldn't find a save point in time and just had to leave it in the menu. If you do the chocobo breeding and get the special materia, you should take a whack at the Ruby and Emerald Weapons before you finish the game -- that's the one thing I never got around to.

Yeah, I remember one of the strategies on defeating the weapons required you to split one of the higher end materia... it's such a pain to sit through that many battles.
Hm,.. something like equipping all of your chars w/ mimic and Knights of the Round, the life2 (or was it phoenix?) materia so when it killed you, you were revived instantly. Crazy.

I beat both weapons in FF7. Both were simple once you had the correct materia combination. All three characters needed the Mime materia and one of them needed the Knights of the Round materia. Having the entire party having a Final Attack materia mastered with a Phoenix combined with it works too (makes your party invincible...they can die 5 times during the battle, but Final Attack happens once you're dead, and combined with Phoenix the summon, it revives the entire party to full HP). Just go into the battle and have one character do Knights of the Round and then the other mime it a ton of times. Having W-Summon allows you to cast KOTR twice per character so you can do it six times in one round. That's 700,000 damage in one round...not bad!
To beat Ruby it's a bit harder since he usually kills two party members in the beginning. Ruby = do it until Cloud is the last character, then have him do Omnislash with a mastered Mime materia like 10 times with Final Attack and Phoenix equipped. Over a million damage easily. -Lasereth

I also used turbo magic with mastered KOTR and w-summon - thats 26 9999's per turn, assuming you mime it. I beat Emerald without the underwater materia (meaning i had a 20 minute limit) with that strategy. The key to Emerald is to have lots of mp restoring items - he leaches MP and you'll go through a ton anyways, though if you use a hp<=>mp materia you can get a lot of casts off, and it doesnt' really matter because so many of Emerald's hits are instant kills anyways. |

I put over 90 hours into FF7 back in the day when I had no life, great game, but very time consuming and extremely addictive, Gold Saucer is fun as hell, and more people should'a played FF7

Man, I wish I had the time to play RPGs.
I'm glad you're playing FF7. It's beautiful. One of my happier high school memories. I beat it, and Got Knights of Round, but I never beat the weapons.

I remember those days of not going to class...cursing and throwing my controller at the screen (fighting the weapons) and spending god knows how long rasing a gold chocobo just to get KOTR. FF7 is great and I wished that instead of making that stupid new Vincent game they upgraded the graphics and rereleased this as an "ULTIMATE GREATEST HITS" for PS2...think about how bad ass it would be....just the new cutscenes.... droooolllllll

FF7 was great, one of my all time favourites. I just recently finished it again, with everything. It took me more thean 99 hours. One strategy I liked for the weapons was equiping as many counter attacks as i could on all 3 characters. Everytime one of them got hit, they counterattacked as many times as materia they had.
I also loved Chrono Trigger. Perfect game except for one thing....IT WAS WAY TO SHORT! I know there was the new game + option, but its just playing the same game over again, without any challange.

FF7 is just purely awesome, I've palyed every game in the ff serious except 11 the new online one and some of the foreign releases. ff7 is tied for first place among them. The characters are great, the awesome Sephiroth, Red13, and of course Cloud. One of The coolest thing about final fantasy 7 was the materia! Freshly done with the Esper system, the materia takes it to the next lvl. That's the best spell/skill system in any game ever as far as i'm concerend, all the different kinds to collect...all the different cool combo's..the lvling up the materia. Collecting all the materia, and beating the weapons is a must....Ruby is way harder than Emerald Despite what the strategy guide says. Greatest game ever...oh except for maybe final fantasy 3 (united states).
Chrono Trigger is incredible...the story, so good. Frog! i loved frog and the robot is hilarious if you have him in your team during the story scenes he says the most hilarious stuff, just like some robot would. One of the coolest things about chrono trigger is going back to play it after you've beat it.. you can kill the boss (wow i can't believe i've forgotten his name...what a shame, magmas?) right when he first shows up! what a treat, you even get alternate endings based on what part of the game you choose to fight him....you can even beat him at a certain point in the game (didn't want to type a spoiler)....and the ending is very saddening. One of the cool things in that game is going into the future opening a treasure chest, then going back in time and opening it again! woot! Final Fanstasy 2 (united states) is also a great one Cecil the Dark Knight and his quest for good...great game also not to mention Xenogears, man talk about a good story. That game is like a Novel man! Xenosaga the ps2 sequel is pretty darn good too. ah, rpg's they are the coolest oh oh had to edit....don't forget Final Fantasy Tactics...that game is just fun as heck too, lots of skills/classes to mess around with and pretty good challenge lvl, esp right at the start..and hey, cloud makes a cameo! P.S. I was told that it's in the mansion, but where the heck?

Just got to the second disc tonight. Spoiler: Sheesh I wish I didn't know about Aeris' death before I saw that scene. I watched it and said to myself, "I probably would've cried if I didn't know exactly what was going to happen." So I am officially farther than I ever have been in this game.

Alright, I'm now on the third disc. Before playing through all this, I though I had all the plot-twists and everything spoiled, but boy was I wrong; and happy because of it! This game is definitely one of my favorites, and I must say it almost lives up to the greatness of FFVI. Anyways; a question:
It seems like I can't park my Highwind anywhere except on grassy areas. Is there any way to park it in snow or a forest?

I loved FF7, played it when I was younger and spent like 60 hours on it, if they didn't run out of money the game would have been much better ending though.
Major Spoiler (I can't remember if its on disc 2 or 3 though): Spoiler: I never understood alot of the ending of the game, it made sense I guess you could say but there were just parts that seemed absolutely pointless and annoyed me (cloud losing his memory just got tedious and boring) I realize it played a role in moving the plot since he woulda been dead had the story been accurate to his memory but I just think it sorta ruined the experience in some ways since you spend probaly 3 hours trying to get his memory back for no real reason? It is also blatantly obvious they ran out of money at the end because if you notice before you fight Sephiroth/Jenova for the final time there is a space where you see the entire team talking thats empty. Originally, Aeris was susposed to be able to be revived after the Temple of the Ancients on Disc 2 as I understand it (there are alot of hard to get items that have absolutely nothing to do with the game, the weapons rose/emerald, alot of boss drops that have no use and alot of side quest items [of course they could just be there for the tough accomplishment but there are more items]) (there are many clues to this throughout the game for example if you respell Aeris's name you get Raise and also in the Temple of the Ancients there is a door on the far left that you can't access due to a pillar having fallen over but the door is accessible. Sorry, I can't figure out how to get the bold white color, hope this will do ;p SM70 Edit: I've fixed it for you Last edited by SecretMethod70; 11-16-2004 at 08:43 PM.. |

heh heh, Chocobo breeding was fun. I have to admit I eventually just cheated and looked up how to get the gold chocobo, but there was no way I was gonna not get Knights of the Round
On another note, I just won the PS version of FF7 on ebay I've been playing the PC version, but after seeing screenshots of the PS version I was finally convinced that it does in fact have better graphics.

OMG the PC version sucked! So horribly buggy beyond belief. And the beautifully orchestrated music from the PSX version was turned into Midi on the PC... Midi can be good, but it sounded like crap on my system.
That's why I'm getting a PS2... so I can play FF7 (well, among other games)

Interesting...I didn't have any bugs that I noticed, but I'm really looking forward to the higher res graphics and I had no idea the music on the PS version wasn't midi. Now I'm even more excited
