Ahh now THATS the multiplayer experience I was looking for.
Despite having nothing but the basic perks I quickly figured out what I was doing and started to pretty much dominate like my old CS days. Fast combat where pulling the trigger first counts, and so far it looks like the cheats must be pretty low, I'm sure it will be spoiled soon enough. On a side note martyrdom is a really annoying game play perk, quite lame.

I just beat it. Holy crap...I'm pretty much speechless. The single player was short, but so action packed and with such great level design that I don't mind that much. Who knew that emotion could be packed into a Call of Duty game that has a single player that lasts 6 hours or so. The game looked downright amazing on my 8800 GT. I'm about to dive into the multiplayer.

Mmm just got the p90 on multiplayer today.... ah p90 whoring just like the old CS days prior to the nerf.
I'm a twitch, run and gunner type of player, so any of the sub machine guns are my friend, really I found out later in the game but the MP5 is on of the best, the only reason the p90 is better is the bigger mag.

The p90 pisses me off. It's better than the AK, it's better than the M16, it's better than the M4. Quite frankly, at any distance shorter than sniping distance, the p90 is the gun to have. I hate when *one* gun is more powerful.
Oh well. Just 1000 pt'd it yesterday, too. Try playing "One Shot, One Kill" or "Mile High Club" on Veteran. Talk about fucking hard? That's fucking hard. There was a section in the second-to-last level that was quite difficult on Veteran, also. Flashbang heaven. Most challenging single-player I've ever played, because the AI is actually quite intelligent. You move more than a couple feet one way or the other, and they'll respond differently. As such, every time you die, it's a different person or a different angle.

Veteran? No thank you, sir. I had one too many fits on my first go through to try plugging it up on Veteran. Kudos to you though for finishing it.
The single player was fun, but the "team" is kind of worthless. Good for shooting the shit out of things...just not terrorists. By the by, the AC-130 level was pretty good. As was the sniper mission.

Interestingly one of the most overpowered weapons, unrealistically, is the m16. If you take that and the penetration bonus it can one shot anyone, and you can snipe with it. My record for a team death match is 115 kills (20 players) and that was using the MP5 of all things. Check the stats, the MP5 is better than the p90 other than the mag size and slightly in rate of fire.

Yea the key to the "team" is to make them get REALLY close to the enemies. At a distance > 5 feet, they just shoot over and over in the general direction of the enemy. They're useful for spotting enemies you can't see, as they just keep shooting at them (without killing them, of course).
When they're forced to be really close to the enemies, like in Mile High Club, they're very effective. In fact, in order to beat it on Veteran (only 60 seconds), you have to leave 2 or 3 for your team to kill, because you simply don't have time to do it yourself. And yea, Veteran made me scream. The part in One Shot One Kill where you have to defend the Ferris Wheel is so god damned insane on Veteran. There are LITERALLY 120 terrorists, all of which will kill you in 2 to 3 AK bullets. Half of my attempts were spent trying to find some little nook to hide in that was impervious to grenades, because they all seem to have 2 grenades EACH. EDIT for Ustwo: Yea, I just kept getting stuck on Bloc.. I think that's the name of it. With the two long apartment buildings facing one another. Every time I came around a fucking corner, it was a P90. Maybe not overpowered in general, but definitely on that map. Have you tried P90 with Sleight of Hand? Holy shit, that's a fast reload.

I used slight of hand with the AK for a while but I either use the penetration perk or more rare the UAV blocker. I still fucking hate martyrdom though. Its not just getting away from the grenade, I can do that, but the blind rush you need to do means you rush out without being able to check for enemies. On maps with a lot of players its really annoying. Also since martyrdom only affects players rushing into a fight, it hurts non-campers far more than campers. Stupid perk.

Not dealing with potential cheats is a plus, though I did find some well monitored servers, and I have pretty much the best current hardware, so I'm good there. Now back to the game. I practiced whoring with the m16 a bit and it took me a while to get the hang of it. On a well organized server (all in the same clan but 2 of us) I gave up with an even ratio before going back to the p90/saw whore. Then I found where the m16 just shines. Bigger maps with 20+ people. Its like a sniper + good close ranged weapon as well. You will lose at point blank to a good sub machine gunner and only if you miss your first burst. I just came off as my teams kill leader two games in a row on a size 32 deathmatch server (with a good kd ratio) using only the m16. It is a bit more of a camper weapon though as you can't hose down a room. I'm not sure how it is on the console side, but we get 5 favorites and I'm doing 2 p90's set ups, 1 m16 1 saw and currently right now a silenced m16 for those more strategic games.

Likewise with 5 favorites; I've only got two setups that I use actively;
Wall of Bullets SAW with Red Dot Special x3 (I'll probably switch this to frag x 3) Stopping Power Deep Impact Marine (Creative, I know) M16 with Red Dot Special x3 Stopping Power Matryrdom (hey, I need the points) Have you tried double tap? I haven't yet, think I might tonight.. Yet another reason I get so pissed at PC FPSes: http://blandname.com/2007/12/31/call...editor-for-pc/ Cheat your way to perfect stats on the PC version, yay!

The way I look at it I only compete with the guys on the server I'm playing, so my stat total doesn't bother me. Sometimes I'm the angel of death on a server if everyone else is lower skilled, other times I'm fighting to stay in the upper middle of the pack.
I don't think the PC side has a wall of bullets perk, never heard of it at any rate. I've used double tap and I wasn't impressed. I tend to die more needing to reload so emptying the clip faster doesn't do much, I'd rather have the extra damage perk. My normal set up 90% of the time is bandoleers, whatever that damage perk is called, and steady aim.

Wall of the Bullets is the name I gave my class.
And steady aim? Really? I didn't notice much motion bob, but maybe I haven't been looking for it. Most of time I'm sprinting, so my biggest problem is the time it takes to bring the gun back down after stopping sprint.

I noticed it doesn't stack with the grips, though. At least not that I could tell. I've been going through the weapons earning the Marksman awards and to be quite honest there aren't any terribly bad weapons. I'm regularly in the top 2 score positions in team DM no matter what I take (except the first crappy sniper rifle - 100 kills was a pain!).

I jumped into the multiplayer last night. Man what a change from the Battlefield series!! In Battlefield (any of them) I get in first every single game I play, regardless of map, team, anything. My accuracy is 75% and my kill to death ratio is 3:1. My points to death ratio is like 8:1. Basically I'm a walking death machine in Battlefield. But wow, I got my ass handed to me in COD4.
A HUGE part of it is me not being familiar with the maps. The kill cam has showed me that the guys who are killing me simply know the best place to camp on the map and the best place to look for enemies. It's more hardcore than Battlefield due to the EXTREMELY realistic bullet damage. 1-3 shots and you're dead, as it should be. Despite not being used to the MP, I'm still getting in 2nd, 3rd, 4th most of the time out of ~20 players. So far I'm liking the M16 with red dot scope the best. I just unlocked the M4 with red dot scope and I'm thinking about trying it out. BTW I keep getting killed over.and over.and over with the P90 so I'm pretty sure it will be a next unlock (they kill me a short, medium, and long range too). BTW some of these MP maps are breathtaking. Overgrown and the other blown-up town in the middle of Iraq level are stunning. Constant 60 FPS with everything maxed on my 8800 GT. BTW some of the snipers in this game are sick. I don't actually mind getting killed by them because sniping is pretty badass in COD4 with the breath system and bullet trajectory like BF. EDIT: My favorite weapon isn't the SAW, it's the M60. Don't know what I was thinking. Once I got the M60 I started using it exclusively and it's freaking awesome. Takes some major skill to use it though...when compared to the M4 and M16 it's REALLY inaccurate. You have to fire the gun completely different at every angle and distance. I used to have the ACOG on it but I traded it for the Grip. I also have Double Tap and Steady Aim enabled on that setup. It's pretty brutal once you get the hang of it. Got first place today on a 24 player map. It's funny to see all the grenade launcher/sniper/M16 whores and then a guy with the M60 in 1st.
Not sure if I'm gonna keep the Grip on it. I really like the ACOG and Red Dot, but man, there's nothing like having an M60 that fires at fast AND is effective at close range. |

Dump the grip, put on a red dot sight and you'll be golden. Pick up steady aim and it'll keep your accuracy close to the grip level and you'll be able to take an explosive perk or bundle in some extra ammo, and the red dot sight is great for long-range fire.

I tried the saw with the grip and no steady aim and it was awful.
I run and gun, I shoot from the hip 80% of the time, I can get a huge k/d by camping a choice spot but thats not what I enjoy. Saw + Grip + steady aim is the way to go for me. I can pick off from long range (yea red dot is better there) and hose down a room like a p90 with a bigger clip. If I do get to the point I run out of ammo I just pick something up, it takes a lot of spraying to completely burn your ammo with a saw.

I'd use the G36C, or something else you can fire from the hip and peg people at long range, plus run faster with. I don't have much luck with the carbine, but I've had some nice runs with the G36C, though the P90 is still better over all. The G36C is better for long range fire but other than that the P90 owns it. I'm only trying to play hardcore servers right now so YMMV. Right now I'm running mostly with a UAV jammer and silencer. Its fun how when the enemy UAV is up my kill count goes up as people get lazy and rely on it.

Not many people use it so it's a nice change of pace from the generic assault rifle whores. It's really fun to get in 1st place on a GOOD server with the M60 anyway. Way better sense of accomplishment than using the same guns as everyone else!! BTW I took the Grip off and put on a scope. Not sure if I'm liking it....after using the Grip for a couple of days you can REALLY tell when it's gone during medium and long range shots. It bounces all over the place without it. |

Running speed is identical with all weapons, afaik. The fact that you can hold the trigger down 3-4 times longer than anyone else is a huge bonus to the LMGs - they duck behind something to reload and I can quite often run in/around there without letting up the fire, and still have over half a clip left.

I've come to really like the G36C with the Grenade Launcher/Stopping Power/Deep Impact for maps like Downpour, Vacant, Countdown and District. Although sometimes I'll use the MP5 or P90 for Vacant.
Not really a fan of the LMG's, I run into a lot of people that just spray and pray with them. -_-
