Is it underground? I'm thinking it's in the PATH system somewhere.

cellophanedeity 01-03-2006 11:01 AM

It is underground, but not the PATH

fresnelly 01-03-2006 01:34 PM

Oh, goody! I've been looking for an excuse to post this shot. I took it about 10 years ago and scanned it in, just for this. :)

I know but will let someone else answer.

Leto 01-03-2006 01:46 PM

CN Tower? But I believe that this is the view from the top of the observation deck, up to the Space Deck????

How did you get that?

At the meetup, we shared our worst job experiences. This one ranks as one of my coolest.

I worked a few days doing maintenance (changing lenses, bulbs etc...) on the big search lights that illuminate the sides of the tower at night.

One day I brought up a camera. I took a series of photos, so if you want to see more, just pm me, because I don't want to threadjack.

OK, maybe a little threadjack. ;)

That must have been an incredible job. what a view. was it windy on the edge?

OK: here is my next one (it's a bit artsy):

Nice shot!

Fresnelly... what a cool job! I was thinking it must have had something to do with lights. Did you have saftey lines and how strong was the urge to jump?

Thanks! that was the start of the Run for the Cure last September. I like the effect...

Your picture is the Ceiling of the Rotunda at the Museum (ROM)..

here's one from last summer:

In the past 10 years, "Fall Arrest" regulations and guidelines have changed A LOT, which is a good thing. At the time, we weren't wearing any sort of harnessess, but I wasn't in jeopardy. The lights are mounted inside those cylinders, which are inside the guywire fence.

The first day we were tip toeing around carefully, but by the last day, the novelty had worn off and we just went about our business. It was never that windy, because they wouldn't let us up there if the weather was bad. Interestingly, it would be windy on one side, but not the others. Also, you couldn't hear the traffic at all.

One day a big Army transport plane buzzed the tower, and on another we could see a storm front moving in (at our level) so we got the hell out of there. The underground complex was also pretty cool; kind of like being in the Death Star :)

OK two last pics:

(Note the undeveloped rail lands to the west)

...and Exhibition Stadium is still standing, it doesn't look like the Convention Centre has been built yet and I think the Haida is still at the Quay.

I love this sort of thing. That area has seen so many changes in the past few years (sadly not all of it for the best).

fresnelly 01-04-2006 10:52 AM

Leto: Is that somewhere along the Niagara River?

Leto 01-04-2006 05:34 PM

not there, wrong 'Falls'. It is east of Toronto, on hwy 35... that hint should 'lock' it up.

Charlatan 01-04-2006 06:22 PM

Fenelon Falls?

My brother lives in Lindsay (just south of Fenelon Falls) and my Dad used to live just East of Sunderland (just south of Manilla in a little place called Cresswell). We used to go to the falls when I was a kid and go swimming.

This might be a bit too local but I am sure someone will get it.

hmmm... trying to look at the reflection in the door/window...

a stumper.

fresnelly 01-05-2006 07:50 AM

I'm pretty sure that's out front of the Beaches Branch Library on Queen St. E. The owl statue is just as cool as the big ones on the Lillian H. Smith Branch on College.

Charlatan 01-05-2006 07:57 AM

game on fresnelly...

fresnelly 01-05-2006 08:07 AM

Not in Toronto:

I could be wrong but that looks like the Tug Boat race in Sault Ste. Marie... I think one of those boats might be my cousin's.

BigBen 01-05-2006 09:51 AM

And you guys out east are wondering why us Westerners feel neglected and unloved?

I haven't been able to get one of those places yet.

Yes, I realize it is a big country.

I love you.

Wow, thanks to Charlattan for teaching me how to post a photo.

Here's a reverse view of a very famous Canadian landmark that I took a couple of years ago whilst working there.
