Nope, this isn't in Toronto. I can give a hint. Yes I can, I bought a beavertail near here.

This should be relatively easy...
I believe that's Carlton University in Ottawa...
I believe you are correct. Game on.
Is this a library?
No, this is not a library.
It looks really familiar but I can't place it. I'm pretty sure its a school?

Western? from my limited experience (albeit booze hazed as the Golden Gaels absolutely destroyed the Mustangs in the Yate's Cup) with the Western Campus, this type of architecture/stone seemed to be predominant.

Not Western. |
Is it the engineering building on one of our beautiful Canadian university campuses?
Quote:
Ok, I'll settle for "The Engineering Building" at ................... |

dammit. I googled Mac, and didn't see it. good on you.

It's the good old JHE. Wooden lecture seats, exposed plumbing, and I had sex with my then GF in the Women's washrooms on the first floor every chance I got in first and second year. Ah the good old days.... |
Ever wonder what she's doing now? for that matter, my son's a first year engineer (ryerson) and i wonder if he's having the lecture with the happy ending.

She moved to the states a couple years after we graduated. I used to keep in touch with her, then she disappeared about 4 years ago and haven't heard from her since. I hope she is well. We found all sort of imaginative places at McMaster to have "quickies". Fortuanately, I'm 6-2 and she was 6-0, so it was easy to have a knee trembler. JHE Women's washrooms on the first floor, Senior Science basement, Burke Science, Mills Library - you name it we used it for our carnal pleasures. At the time it seemed like a real drag that both of us lived with our parents and we could only "do it" at home when the parental units weren't around (which wasn't too often, and even then, you had to always keep one ear open for the key in the front door). Funny, cause now I have my own place, but I look back at those times and how we improvised locations for sex and I think how great it was. (And it was.) I'd give everything I own to be 20 again and in first year Engineering at Mac. I hope your son takes full advantage of his opportunity. Including the happy ending lectures! |
That's looking a lot like McGill... Is it the engineering faculty there?
It is McGill it is Engineering related but you need to be more specific.
The Department of Civil Engineering and Applied Mechanics
Macdonald Engineering Building 817 Sherbrooke Street West Montreal, Quebec H3A 2K6 CANADA http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._2000/map0.gif I think... I'm not from there but it's a closer guess. |
Macdonald Engineering Building is correct.
The reason you needed to be specific is there are multiple Engineering buildings on the McGill campus. |
whooo hoo! off to find a pic.
Okay folks, to continue the trend.... try this one on for size: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...52a1ee4803.jpg |
nobody getting a round to this? Is it that the physics of it is too difficult?
I don't see a pic....
really? it's there
I see the pic now, maybe photobucket was down for a bit when I looked before.
ok .. good. Maybe it was a Heisenberg-ian experience....
I have not found it yet.
hint... it's a round building at the finest university in the land.... (no really... I'm not biased and didn't mention anything about the Aberdeen street party)
Stirling Hall Queens and you are obviously biased.
I am going to be unavailable for several days. Someone else should post an image. |
good catch Sticky. It is the Physics building at Queens (Stirling Hall)

got your back Sticky: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._2000/dock.jpg |
Hint: this is not a false picture.
and... it is in canada somewhere...
for some reason, I want to say Montreal.
But that would be wrong...
It's not in Montreal, and if the pilings on the dock are any indication, it's got to be influenced by the tides...
It looks like it's in Vancouver judging by the buildings in the background.
getting close. need a specific location. post 3740 may provide a hint.
Found it! False Creek Community Center on Granville Island!
good work Milnoc! Game on.
I am not going to answer
Spoiler: I think I might have posted this exact picture way back in this thread. The pic is probably a rex right now. |
Spoiler: I wasn't around back then, and your original image has disappeared. :) This new image is another one of my B&W slides, taken on board a city bus.
Victoria Bridge?
That's it! Game on Kirk.
TOO easy! I'll let someone else answer it.
Besides, I'm out of pictures. :) |

But we'll see if anyone else can recognize this Canadian Landmark.... |
is it a deli in MTL??
Yes, but which one?
Lol... I have no idea, as I don't know MTL all that well, but I do know that there were a couple of famous delicatessans there, one of which just closed down after a couple of millenia of operation.
My hail Mary guess will be: Ben's Deli. |
There is only one MOST FAMOUS deli in Montreal.
Milnoc knows. My friend had a party here and had them Fed Ex their smoked meat to him. And they did!! Rye bread, piles about 2" high, yellow mustard. Mmm, I need a trip to Montreal. |
so, is it Ben's?
Whoops, sorry.
No, it is not Ben's. As I said, it is THEE most famous Deli in Montreal, nay, Canada. |
hmmm... I would have thought that was a Druxy's somewhere in Toronto... :)
Kirk, when was the picture taken? The place is empty! I've never seen it like that before! :)
Quote:
I've been there a few times. The first time I went there, a Quebecois amigo of mine sent me there. I remember thinking, "this is what he's been yapping about. The place looks right out 1945" Well, who knew, it was right out of 45. When I was there it was around 2 or 3 p.m. and there was no lineup outside. Every other time, though, it was lined up out the door. |
Unfortunately, I don't like smoked meat. So even if I've passed in front of the place a few times, I've never eaten there.
And no, I'm not a true Montrealer. I'm from Ottawa. :) |
ok, so the only other one that seems to be famous is Schwartz's. Is this Scwhartz's Deli or the Charcuterie Hebraique de Montréal located at 3895 Saint-Laurent?
Oui have a wiener, er winner.
Shwartz's it is. Aka, the Hebrew Deli (it's original name) And I love smoked meat.... |
Hamilton.
HMCS Haida. |
not Hamilton. Is that where the Haida got moved to? This baby is floating on a river.
go east.....
Bridgewater, Nova Scotia
whoa... Game ON Lucifer.
But I guess you are in the 'boat' business...... |
I am, but actually I just drove past it on Saturday on my way to Lunenburg.
http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...o/100_3489.jpg |
need a hint, or am I just a thread-killer?
no... you're not a thread killer, it's just not that this is burried in Nonsense, it doesn't get the exposure it so rightfully deserves!
(a hint would sure help tho) This wouldn't be somewhere Magnetic Hill, in New Brunswick would it? |
It isn't, but it is somewhere between you and there.
perhaps the large version of the pic will help http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...100_3489-1.jpg |
I would guess that this is very close to the St Lawrence... obivously in Quebec.
Is it famous for something? |
It isn't in itself, but it is on the grounds of somewhere famous.
Is it on Mont Royal?
no, much further east, past QC
Okay.. so, it's in quebec, it's a famous location, and it is east of QC. Very few places that would be well known are left. Places like Perce?
too far east. Okay, big hint: It's behind Ile d'Orleans.
I'm ashamed to say that I had to goole ile d'orleans. for some reason I thought it was near Ottawa, even though I've driven past at least four times. So.. If this is behind that place, looking at the map I would put the butt side of ile d'orelans, or the behind part, the south shore, directly south of the island. Is this picture somehwhere in St Michel de Bellechasse? I guess this because it sounds kind of churchy, and there's a church in your pic.
Oh, see when I meant behind Ile d'Orleans, I meant the north shore. I pass Ile d'Orleans all the time, but I'm in the seaway, so naturally (to me) behind means the north shore. You are on the right track with the churches.....
How about Mont Saint Anne or st joachim de montmorency?
ummm, no, she isn't on a mountain
ahhhh... a hint... "she" isn't on a mountain. so there must be a reference to some kind of female saint... of to search google again.
so close, and yet so far...
holy smokes, I'm at a loss... my googling skills are definitely sub par for this one... Hint?

ok... the obvious guess would be Ste Anne de Beaupre, althought I can't find the scenery that youv'e posted. Is this close?
In the interest of breathing some life into this thread, I'll post something while waiting your answer. -----Added 7/1/2009 at 12 : 52 : 39----- http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...000/spider.jpg |
You are indeed correct, the location is Ste. Anne de Beaupre. The place in the photo is across the square from the cathedral and is called The Basilica Inn. More information can be found here
Sanctuaire Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré |
whew! that must have been a record. Although, the Christmas break did disrupt things a bit...
National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa
thank god someone else spoke up. I knew it, but didn't want this to turn into the "Lucifer and Leto thread"
i second that! game on Daval!
