Milnoc 05-25-2008 06:43 AM

Since I won't be available mid-week, here's a hint to speed things up.

Yes, it's a billboard, but it doesn't carry any advertising.

Ourcrazymodern? 05-25-2008 07:18 AM

I'm SO happy that Canada won't let me in.

james t kirk 05-25-2008 08:34 AM

Champlain bridge Montreal

Milnoc 05-25-2008 10:34 AM

Nope, not Champlain bridge. But you're in the right city.

Sticky, do you happen to know what it is?

Leto 05-25-2008 02:17 PM

Now now, don't let a mere highway sign intimidate you...

Milnoc 05-25-2008 02:44 PM

Leto, it's not a highway sign because there's no highway near it. Try again.

I can't figre it out, but I am focusing on the black under the bilboard

Milnoc 05-26-2008 03:03 AM

Here's another hint. The billboard itself has some red in it.

james t kirk 05-26-2008 03:32 PM

The scoreboard where the Alouettes play (Molson Stadium)?

Milnoc 05-26-2008 05:25 PM

Nope! It ain't a scoreboard! It's just a billboard.

Another hint. Ruby red.

Leto 05-26-2008 07:20 PM

is the billboard signifacant? could it be advertising the grand prix?

Milnoc 05-26-2008 07:43 PM

The billboard is significant for what it contains as well as its location. And as I've said before, there's no advertisement on it, but there is something ruby red on it.

I'll be out of "virtual" touch until Wednesday night. But you should all have more than enough hints by now to properly Google the answer.

Leto 05-27-2008 08:39 AM

Specifically, is it a billboard with big kissy lips that proclaims 'Monteal is for lovers'! On the Hyatt ?

Sticky 05-27-2008 05:16 PM

I'm back!

FOUL on Leto! :)

Yes, it's the correct billboard, but you've failed to identify the correct location. The Lips billboard is located on the roof of the Montreal Contemporary Art Museum.

Here's the view from the front.

http://www.milnoc.com/images/P1010049.JPG

EDIT: Sticky, is that the Super Ex at Lansdowne Park, Ottawa?

Leto 05-29-2008 03:15 AM

ackkk!! I got a foul!

Sticky 05-29-2008 04:52 AM

Not the Super Ex at Lansdowne

james t kirk 05-29-2008 03:02 PM

Niagara Falls?

Sticky 05-30-2008 05:13 AM

Nope, not Niagra Falls.

blahblah454 05-30-2008 02:47 PM

Is it in Ontario?

Sticky 05-31-2008 08:14 PM

no.

Sticky 06-02-2008 04:59 AM

You are correct.

Charlatan 06-02-2008 05:04 PM

Someone else, please take my turn.

Cheers

The statue Justitia located at the entrance of the Supreme Court of Canada.

The photographer of the picture is Philippe Landreville.

james t kirk 06-03-2008 09:40 AM

And the sculptor was Walter Alward....

Too easy.

Milnoc 06-03-2008 03:14 PM

Here's the next one.

http://www.milnoc.com/images/VC27.jpg

Along with the location, you must also find the cat's name! :D

Leto 06-04-2008 07:42 AM

Ginger in Ottawa.

Milnoc 06-04-2008 08:43 AM

At least the city is correct. But where in the city?

And no, the cat's name isn't Ginger.

Leto 06-04-2008 10:03 AM

This is the Parliament Hill Cat Sanctuary.

Is the cat Brownie?

Milnoc 06-04-2008 10:35 AM

Game on, Leto!

And no fouls this time! Very good! :D

Leto 06-04-2008 11:06 AM

Thanks. Well I try. That was a toughy.

Where/What is this (under construction) building?

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/DSC00483.jpg

Sticky 06-04-2008 11:27 AM

Indoor soccer feild?

Leto 06-04-2008 11:31 AM

nope. this is pretty big, taken from about 100 yards away.

-- Charlatan or Fresnelly might know at first glance.

Charlatan 06-04-2008 04:49 PM

Is that the new film studios down in the portlands of Toronto?

Leto 06-04-2008 05:04 PM

Game on Charlatan! I believe it's called Filmport. This building is on Commissioner street (I think) and is huge. I really question the economics what with the C$ being on par with the US$ I don't see the draw for the film dollar that we had when they first planned this development.

Milnoc 06-04-2008 05:31 PM

We still have a few extra benefits when compared with the USA such as government grants, enthusiastic and inexpensive production staff, full support services, the latest technologies...

Too bad no Canadian movie production will be able to afford the place... :(

Leto 06-05-2008 08:58 AM

While we wait for Charlatan, Have a gander at these pics. They aren't official entries. Can anybody tell why they wouldn't qualify?

Is it Turks and Caicos?

Leto 06-05-2008 09:50 AM

Well... you're right in that they aren't in Canada. But it's not T&C

Milnoc 06-05-2008 10:27 AM

Hey! It's Jamaica Mon! :)

Leto 06-05-2008 10:58 AM

Irie mon! You noticed the Red Stripe truck and the Runaway Bay beach shot...

Milnoc 06-05-2008 11:59 AM

I only noticed the beer truck. :) And I don't drink! :D

Leto 06-05-2008 12:51 PM

it was *interesting* watching these two truck navigate past each other on that narow road...

Charlatan 06-05-2008 04:59 PM

I can't believe how far the construction has come. When I left it was still up in the air that I would even get built.

Can someone else please post a picture?

Thanks

Leto 06-05-2008 06:42 PM

ok, I'll go get one.

a seemingly innocuous downtown street... but where is this piece of Canadiana? East? West? North or South? Somebody out there must be able to say where:

they don'thave to be obscure.... but I can throw up another one...

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._2000/nuke.jpg

Charlatan 06-07-2008 04:20 AM

Darlington Nuclear Power Plant...

I spent some time on the site when it was under construction.

Charlatan 06-07-2008 04:26 AM

1 Attachment(s)
OK... I need where this is and what it's connection is to the last picture.

Milnoc 06-07-2008 06:22 AM

The power plant is the Bruce nuclear power plant located on the Eastern shore of Lake Huron.

The floral clock is located at the Princess Street Gardens in Edinburgh, Scotland. It's was inspired Dr. Richard L. Hearn, the then chairman of Ontario Hydro, to build a similar clock at Niagara Park, which was completed in 1950.

Okay. I'll stop showing off now. :)

Ah, what the heck. Bring on the next picture! :D

Charlatan 06-07-2008 05:17 PM

Crap. I was sure that was Darlington but Milnoc is correct. I also posted the wrong floral clock... I meant to do the one in Niagara.

Game on Milnoc.

blahblah454 06-07-2008 05:38 PM

You guys sure know your Canada, I have led a pretty isolated life here in Alberta

Milnoc 06-07-2008 06:24 PM

I'll tour the city tomorrow and find something a bit unusual, yet Googleable. :)

Leto 06-08-2008 03:04 AM

Sorry Charl, Milnoc was in fact correct with the plant being the Bruce near Kincardine...

Charlatan 06-08-2008 05:11 AM

I was hung up on the cooling tower rather than the building.

Milnoc 06-08-2008 01:15 PM

I've had some help with the nuclear power plant. A few months ago, I've loaded in Google Earth a list of all the world's nuclear power plants, indexed by country. "Bruce" was the first plant listed under "Canada", and it was a perfect match.

Here's the next one. It might be a bit easy.

Leto 06-09-2008 07:29 AM

Is this in Montreal? It looks like it contains native peoples icons.

Milnoc 06-09-2008 08:11 AM

Yes, it's in Montreal.

Leto 06-10-2008 07:14 PM

La Joute Fountain in front of the Palais des congrès de Montréal

*edit... I was just wondering how many Manitoba entries that we have on this game....

Sticky 06-12-2008 10:41 AM

I think I posted a few from Manitoba in the past.

Can someone else post a pic?

Leto 06-12-2008 12:40 PM

got your back....

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...IMG_3145_2.jpg

Milnoc 06-12-2008 03:00 PM

I dive into my ass, and what do I find? :D

Hay River, Northwest Territories?

The image appears to be old. That thermometer is in Fahrenheit! But the temperature range appears plausible for that part of the Great White North.

Leto 06-12-2008 07:26 PM

your ass would be cold. This is not Hay River NWT. The Thermometer is old, I don't think the picture is. The temp is significant.

blahblah454 06-13-2008 03:20 PM

Thats one of the Thermometers from White River Ontario

Leto 06-13-2008 07:15 PM

you betcha, Game on Blahblah. It's measuring the coldest temperature recorded in Ontario.

Milnoc 06-14-2008 10:53 AM

Leto, that was sneaky! White River happens to be the place where the bear cub Winnie was rescued! The same Winnie as in the previous picture!

Leto 06-15-2008 05:23 PM

It is indeed. Good catch.

blahblah454 06-17-2008 02:59 PM

Thanks for the message Leto! I totally forgot to even check this. I have been out of town for business and I have been busy as hell.

Here we go, this should be a pretty easy one once you start to narrow it down some.

http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/7387/1000577yy2.jpg

Leto 06-18-2008 05:41 AM

Okay... I'll give it a try;

Roger's Pass

blahblah454 06-18-2008 03:36 PM

Close, but be more specific.

Milnoc 06-19-2008 04:35 AM

The CPR's lower spiral tunnel located near Cathedral, B.C. The picture was taken from the roadside lookout alongside the Trans-Canada Highway.

And that's a single train we see there, crossing over itself as it works its way through the tunnel.

Leto 06-19-2008 05:05 AM

Is that near Roger's Pass?

Milnoc 06-19-2008 05:55 AM

Roger's Pass is 140 kilometers West of Cathedral, on the other side of what I believe is Kootenay Valley. Kicking Horse Pass however is only 9 kilometers East of Cathedral.

blahblah454 06-19-2008 03:10 PM

Nice work Milnoc, you got it.

Milnoc 06-20-2008 07:48 PM

Here's the next one.

http://www.milnoc.com/images/P1010052.JPG

Leto 06-21-2008 09:02 AM

Is this in Montreal?

Milnoc 06-21-2008 04:21 PM

Yes, it's in Montreal.

Leto 06-23-2008 02:57 AM

world trade centre ?

Milnoc 06-23-2008 11:31 AM

Nope!

A hint: it's near the lips! :)

blahblah454 06-24-2008 07:35 PM

Near the lips? The lesbian lips nightclub?

Leto 06-25-2008 04:39 AM

No.. I think it's near the art gallery, the Montreal Contemporary Art Museum.

Sticky 06-25-2008 01:12 PM

Is that the Montreal Art Gallery at Place Des Arts.
here is a pic from on top
http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/3...ery6116rw7.jpg

Milnoc 06-25-2008 02:27 PM

I have a problem here.

Sticky did identify the object visually, but he didn't properly identify it. Also, to the best of my knowledge, it's not associated with the museum, and it definitely isn't inside it either.

So do we give it to sticky or give him one more chance to properly name it? It's a common word and not a proper name, so it should be easy.

Or am I being a bit too anal over this game? :D

Leto 06-26-2008 04:46 AM

nothing wrong with being anal....

Sticky 06-26-2008 07:00 AM

I think it is just Place Des Arts.
You kind of walk under this when you are coing from the parking lot and going to see a show in one of the theatres.

Milnoc 06-26-2008 09:35 AM

And what do you call a ceiling window that lets in light from the sky? :)
