Since I won't be available mid-week, here's a hint to speed things up.
Yes, it's a billboard, but it doesn't carry any advertising. |
I'm SO happy that Canada won't let me in.
|
Champlain bridge Montreal
|
Nope, not Champlain bridge. But you're in the right city.
Sticky, do you happen to know what it is? |
Quote:
Now now, don't let a mere highway sign intimidate you... |
Leto, it's not a highway sign because there's no highway near it. Try again.

Here's another hint. The billboard itself has some red in it.
|
The scoreboard where the Alouettes play (Molson Stadium)?
|
Nope! It ain't a scoreboard! It's just a billboard.
Another hint. Ruby red. |
is the billboard signifacant? could it be advertising the grand prix?
|
The billboard is significant for what it contains as well as its location. And as I've said before, there's no advertisement on it, but there is something ruby red on it.
I'll be out of "virtual" touch until Wednesday night. But you should all have more than enough hints by now to properly Google the answer. |
Specifically, is it a billboard with big kissy lips that proclaims 'Monteal is for lovers'! On the Hyatt ?
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._2000/lips.jpg |
Looks like it Leto.
|
|
Halifax
|
Ok... I guess that's pretty accurate.
Game on Sticky |
|
I'm back!
FOUL on Leto! :) Yes, it's the correct billboard, but you've failed to identify the correct location. The Lips billboard is located on the roof of the Montreal Contemporary Art Museum. Here's the view from the front. http://www.milnoc.com/images/P1010049.JPG EDIT: Sticky, is that the Super Ex at Lansdowne Park, Ottawa? |
ackkk!! I got a foul!
|
Not the Super Ex at Lansdowne
|
Niagara Falls?
|
Nope, not Niagra Falls.
|
Is it in Ontario?
|
no.

Here is another pic http://img61.imageshack.us/img61/3884/example7zn1.jpg |
That's the Calgary Stampede Fairgrounds...
|
You are correct.
|
Someone else, please take my turn.
Cheers |
|
The statue Justitia located at the entrance of the Supreme Court of Canada.
The photographer of the picture is Philippe Landreville. |
And the sculptor was Walter Alward....
Too easy. |
Here's the next one.
http://www.milnoc.com/images/VC27.jpg Along with the location, you must also find the cat's name! :D |
Ginger in Ottawa.
|
At least the city is correct. But where in the city?
And no, the cat's name isn't Ginger. |
This is the Parliament Hill Cat Sanctuary.
Is the cat Brownie? |
Game on, Leto!
And no fouls this time! Very good! :D |
Thanks. Well I try. That was a toughy.
Where/What is this (under construction) building? http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/DSC00483.jpg |
Indoor soccer feild?
|
nope. this is pretty big, taken from about 100 yards away.
-- Charlatan or Fresnelly might know at first glance. |
Is that the new film studios down in the portlands of Toronto?
|
Game on Charlatan! I believe it's called Filmport. This building is on Commissioner street (I think) and is huge. I really question the economics what with the C$ being on par with the US$ I don't see the draw for the film dollar that we had when they first planned this development.
|
We still have a few extra benefits when compared with the USA such as government grants, enthusiastic and inexpensive production staff, full support services, the latest technologies...
Too bad no Canadian movie production will be able to afford the place... :( |
While we wait for Charlatan, Have a gander at these pics. They aren't official entries. Can anybody tell why they wouldn't qualify?
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1.../IMG_0308b.jpg http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...0/IMG_0199.jpg |
Is it Turks and Caicos?
|
Well... you're right in that they aren't in Canada. But it's not T&C
|
Hey! It's Jamaica Mon! :)
|
Irie mon! You noticed the Red Stripe truck and the Runaway Bay beach shot...
|
I only noticed the beer truck. :) And I don't drink! :D
|
it was *interesting* watching these two truck navigate past each other on that narow road...
|
I can't believe how far the construction has come. When I left it was still up in the air that I would even get built.
Can someone else please post a picture? Thanks |
ok, I'll go get one.
a seemingly innocuous downtown street... but where is this piece of Canadiana? East? West? North or South? Somebody out there must be able to say where: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._2000/5499.jpg |
Is that in BC?
|
This is in BC.

game on Milnoc.
it's in the heart of Mennonite dairyland. |
Can someone else post an image? I'm fresh out of obscure pictures for now.
|
they don'thave to be obscure.... but I can throw up another one...
http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1..._2000/nuke.jpg |
Darlington Nuclear Power Plant...
I spent some time on the site when it was under construction. |
1 Attachment(s)
OK... I need where this is and what it's connection is to the last picture.
|
The power plant is the Bruce nuclear power plant located on the Eastern shore of Lake Huron.
The floral clock is located at the Princess Street Gardens in Edinburgh, Scotland. It's was inspired Dr. Richard L. Hearn, the then chairman of Ontario Hydro, to build a similar clock at Niagara Park, which was completed in 1950. Okay. I'll stop showing off now. :) Ah, what the heck. Bring on the next picture! :D |
Crap. I was sure that was Darlington but Milnoc is correct. I also posted the wrong floral clock... I meant to do the one in Niagara.
Game on Milnoc. |
You guys sure know your Canada, I have led a pretty isolated life here in Alberta
|
I'll tour the city tomorrow and find something a bit unusual, yet Googleable. :)
|
Sorry Charl, Milnoc was in fact correct with the plant being the Bruce near Kincardine...
|
I was hung up on the cooling tower rather than the building.
|
I've had some help with the nuclear power plant. A few months ago, I've loaded in Google Earth a list of all the world's nuclear power plants, indexed by country. "Bruce" was the first plant listed under "Canada", and it was a perfect match.
Here's the next one. It might be a bit easy. http://www.milnoc.com/images/100_0100.JPG |
Is this in Montreal? It looks like it contains native peoples icons.
|
Yes, it's in Montreal.
|
La Joute Fountain in front of the Palais des congrès de Montréal

|
Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg
That is a statue of Harry Colebourn and his black Bear cub Winnie |
yes and yes
Game on Sticky *edit... I was just wondering how many Manitoba entries that we have on this game.... |
I think I posted a few from Manitoba in the past.
Can someone else post a pic? |
|
I dive into my ass, and what do I find? :D
Hay River, Northwest Territories? The image appears to be old. That thermometer is in Fahrenheit! But the temperature range appears plausible for that part of the Great White North. |
your ass would be cold. This is not Hay River NWT. The Thermometer is old, I don't think the picture is. The temp is significant.
|
Thats one of the Thermometers from White River Ontario
|
you betcha, Game on Blahblah. It's measuring the coldest temperature recorded in Ontario.
|
Leto, that was sneaky! White River happens to be the place where the bear cub Winnie was rescued! The same Winnie as in the previous picture!
|
It is indeed. Good catch.
|
Thanks for the message Leto! I totally forgot to even check this. I have been out of town for business and I have been busy as hell.
Here we go, this should be a pretty easy one once you start to narrow it down some. http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/7387/1000577yy2.jpg |
Okay... I'll give it a try;
Roger's Pass |
Close, but be more specific.
|
The CPR's lower spiral tunnel located near Cathedral, B.C. The picture was taken from the roadside lookout alongside the Trans-Canada Highway.
And that's a single train we see there, crossing over itself as it works its way through the tunnel. |
Is that near Roger's Pass?
|
Roger's Pass is 140 kilometers West of Cathedral, on the other side of what I believe is Kootenay Valley. Kicking Horse Pass however is only 9 kilometers East of Cathedral.
|
Nice work Milnoc, you got it.
|
|
Is this in Montreal?
|
Yes, it's in Montreal.
|
world trade centre ?
|
Nope!
A hint: it's near the lips! :) |
Near the lips? The lesbian lips nightclub?
|
No.. I think it's near the art gallery, the Montreal Contemporary Art Museum.
|
Is that the Montreal Art Gallery at Place Des Arts.
here is a pic from on top http://img373.imageshack.us/img373/3...ery6116rw7.jpg |
I have a problem here.
Sticky did identify the object visually, but he didn't properly identify it. Also, to the best of my knowledge, it's not associated with the museum, and it definitely isn't inside it either. So do we give it to sticky or give him one more chance to properly name it? It's a common word and not a proper name, so it should be easy. Or am I being a bit too anal over this game? :D |
nothing wrong with being anal....
|
I think it is just Place Des Arts.
You kind of walk under this when you are coing from the parking lot and going to see a show in one of the theatres. |
And what do you call a ceiling window that lets in light from the sky? :)
