The Campfire

One thing in this world that links us antipodeans is the love for a yarn. Aussies and Kiwis alike will talk about shit for hours on end, stopping only for a breath.

Here's the spot to do it, around the campfire. Saves us unintentionally jacking someone else's thread... so relax, have a beer, sit around the fire and shoot the shit. You're in charge of wood cchris :p

Latch 07-18-2004 05:11 AM

hehe you said wood..

Anyways, nah.. the guy I lived with is 19-20ish now. Dropped outta Uni after his first year last year. His name's Warren. Probably shouldn't mention a last name in the forum like this. He was down in Tasi this year.. but lost his license drink driving, so he's back home. Smokes grass constantly.. Has a mate named Rum Bottle. Reckon you'd know at least one of 'em. I think I've described him as much as I can hehe.

Latch 07-18-2004 05:13 AM

Oh, and as for "The Campfire".. nothing better than sitting 'round a campfire with a few beers and a buncha mates.. or a buncha beers and a few mates. Either way, great times.

Meridae'n 07-18-2004 05:24 AM

You should be given honourary citizenship Latch... you sound more aussie than most aussies I know.

I'll hafta enquire about this dude... I'm curious. 'Rum Bottle' eh? Sounds like something the Friggers would call each other in Deni!

Since we've got so many Mexicans in here, where do you all drink in Melbourne when you're out for a big one? Alot of my mates live around Richmond so we spend alot of time in the Spready, Swan, and the GB. When out of Richmond usually the Terminus, The Harp in Kew, The Glenferrie, or somewhere along Chapel St... Bridies, Frostbites or Revolver (whenever that asian dude on the door thinks we're cool enough, which isn't often).

Ella 07-18-2004 12:29 PM

*plonks arse down on a thick blanky and holds out hands to the fire...opens bottle of Archers Spri, just to be be different...*

Comfy thread, Meri-babe...I'm happy to have a place to chat, but right now my fingers are like little slivers of ice, so I'll make it brief.

You mentioned a couple of my old locals up there....used to drink at the Harp a lot, and the GB for bands. The Spready...is that the Red Eagle in Albert Park? Not my scene....I was an Espy gal through and through.

I'm moving to Brisbane at the end of the year, but dunno where I'll be living yet, so I have no idea where I'll be hanging!

cchris 07-18-2004 12:51 PM

Trips over fucking goanna looking for wood.

How'd I get this job? http://www.smileyworld.com/dictionar...s/long_saw.gif

Nah, The Spreadeagle on Bridge Rd in Richmond. Smallish pub, closes at 1am, full of metro's, good pub. Funly enough I've had 3 different people got to the Spready in Lake Albert when we've tried to rendevous.

I thought you had already moved to Brisbane El, or are you on the coast? I'm heading to Brissie at the end of the year... half of my mates from Deni have moved up there already, might as well join the crowd. I was talking to one of them on Saturday and he told me it was 26 degrees. It was 10 in Albury at the time. You suck! I'll hafta get a Lions membership though... that'll hurt the soul.

Ella 07-19-2004 10:36 PM

Nah, Meri, I'm inland west in the mountains. But I'm a city gal, not a medium sized semi-rural city gal! Just need to sell my place, buy one down there, arrange a transfer, find a decent school for my girls and I'm good.

Are you moving there, Meri, or just visiting?

Meridae'n 07-20-2004 09:49 AM

Moving. Looks like I'll be able to move into a place in Spring Hill in January, sweet place too... about 2 minutes walk from the Valley.

Have to get a transfer yet, either that or go back to Plastering. Better money plastering, but longer hours and shitload of driving. I can't wait... love the Riverina, but I've been here for like ever. Need sun! Plus the girls are better up there, just made of plastic ;) So, are there any single chicks working in the Towoomba Centrelink office El?

Fuck it was cold when I knocked off at 3am this morning. Ice was half an inch thick on my windscreen... goodsy. Get here Spring already.

Doos 07-21-2004 04:55 AM

So much for the stereotype of Oz being one big desert with an opera house and a coral reef at either end...

I live halfway between the Harp and the Glenferrie, and I've never been to the Harp, and to the Glenferrie only once! We don't have a regular bar we hang out at, but our big nights are usually at Switch (Casey's on Glenferrie Rd), the Lounge (Swanston St.), Embassy Bar (Behind 7-11, cnr. Swanston/Lonsdale), or the Clyde (uni pub around Elgin/Lygon Sts.)

Meridae'n 07-21-2004 11:21 AM

Yeah, the Lounge is a sweet deal, fantastic on the eyes.

The Harp is a bit of a house-o haunt, but you can always let your hair down and go crazy. Used to have a feed at the Skinny Dog (had a mate who was the chef there) then walk to the Harp. Great times...

Ella 07-22-2004 03:30 AM

I used to hang at Lounge when it first opened....the owner Carlo had a club on Bridge Rd (and Swan St before that), Richmond which we went to a lot. He then opened Lounge in the early 90's I think (or was it the late 80's?). He gave me a membership years ago, but it's pretty useless nowadays, I guess! My soon to be ex husband was a chef there for a couple of years too. Dunno if the food's still good, but it used to be.

Meridae'n 07-22-2004 11:37 AM

"Soon to be ex husband"

Interesting phrase...

Ella 07-23-2004 12:45 AM

Ya reckon? More like.....the man from whom I'm too fucking lazy to get a divorce.

Edit: Testing....testing.....new avatar. Feedback required.

Be gentle. It's a close up and I was quite drunk. I later got laid big time. Good times.

Edit: Scrap that one. Stuck the Whiteley on instead.

Meridae'n 07-23-2004 07:29 AM

Bring back the avatar I missed dammit http://www.cybertavern.net/speakeasy...milies/mad.gif

So Ella..........

Love the avatars...and

swap ya a spliff for one of your cordials.

Ella 07-23-2004 02:41 PM

Meri...I thought the sneering was a bit much, but you can see it here if you like. I still have it on MSN....when I remember to take off that other pic I use on there...errr...never mind.

Chris...I'll have a spliff and the cordial!

Meridae'n 07-27-2004 01:18 AM

The drummer from The Cosmic Pshycos hey? That's a feater in your cap, rooting a drummer ;)

You know what they call a drummer without a girlfriend?

Homeless.

Ella 07-27-2004 04:42 AM

How do you get 2 drummers to play in time?

Shoot one.

Latch 07-27-2004 04:45 AM

That dirty little secret thread was turning into a "Who has Ella rooted?" thread for a minute there.

Ella 07-27-2004 04:55 AM

Or more to the point.....

Who hasn't Ella rooted??

(I had to get that one in before Meri said it)

Meridae'n 07-27-2004 04:56 AM

I don't think Hal's servers have the capacity for that thread...

Ella 07-27-2004 04:59 AM

You're heading the right way for a severe slapping, boyo.

cchris 07-28-2004 04:53 PM

Can I watch?

Meridae'n 08-05-2004 03:04 AM

How good are shop-a-dockets! Two Whoppers with cheese for $4.55... sweet as a nut.

Ella 08-05-2004 03:33 AM

My house is being painted at the moment and the feckin' fumes are making me feel like hurling. What's worse, all the curtains and blinds are off at the moment, so I have no privacy. None at all.

On the plus side...it's Friday tomorrow!!!!

Latch 08-05-2004 03:55 AM

I took a flex day on Monday..

Worked Tuesday..

Was sick yesterday and today..

And will likely work a short day tomorrow...

It's been an easy week (I really was sick though, that sucked).

On to the weekend!

Ella 08-06-2004 12:05 AM

Hey, I took a flex on Monday as well, Latch! And last Friday. Yesterday and today I finished around 3...still have about 10 hours up my sleeve. Love that flex!!

Latch 08-06-2004 01:17 AM

The bastards here only let us flex a day off once a fortnight :(

Meridae'n 08-06-2004 06:05 PM

Latch, how come you can't get permanent residency here? We seem to let in 6 billion asians and arabs who have absolutely no intention of ever accepting our culture, yet you've been here for ages, are an educated man, yet seem to be having trouble.

What do you have to do to get residency short of marrying Ella?

Ella 08-06-2004 06:18 PM

I'll marry him if he pays for my divorce from my current husband first. Deal?

cchris 08-06-2004 06:36 PM

A Yankie and a Queenslander walk into a bar.................................

Sorry,couldn''t resist

Ella 08-06-2004 06:49 PM

Hey, I may live up here, but I still consider myself a Victorian...ya know? We swallow? Sheesh....

Latch 08-06-2004 06:54 PM

It's because I do it the legal way ;) It'll all be over soon... relatively. I hope to have the PR by January. Application is in and all.. it's just the waiting game.

I've had many chicks offer to marry me for PR (usually while we're all getting drunk together.. and no, the "let's just go to the honeymoon bit" line doesn't work)... If I marry them, they don't have divorices I'd have to pay for as well.. sorry, Ella ;)

Plus they're Victorian.. so.. yeah.

Ella 08-06-2004 07:25 PM

Ahh good...so you're on your way to being sorted, Latch. I'm really not the marrying type, anyways...I was with my husband for 11 years before we married. We separated less than two years later. Marriage seemed like a good idea at the time, tho....

Latch 08-06-2004 07:48 PM

Aren't you common-law after 2 years? or something like that?

Crazy Aussie laws hehe

Meridae'n 08-07-2004 12:17 AM

Please don't confuse aussie law with Queensland law, we let women vote down here.

Latch 08-07-2004 03:38 AM

haha sorry...

hey Ella, who's that in your avatar? Looks like Jack Black.. but not positive..
