The Campfire

One thing in this world that links us antipodeans is the love for a yarn. Aussies and Kiwis alike will talk about shit for hours on end, stopping only for a breath.

Here's the spot to do it, around the campfire. Saves us unintentionally jacking someone else's thread... so relax, have a beer, sit around the fire and shoot the shit. You're in charge of wood cchris :p

Latch 07-18-2004 05:11 AM

hehe you said wood..

Anyways, nah.. the guy I lived with is 19-20ish now. Dropped outta Uni after his first year last year. His name's Warren. Probably shouldn't mention a last name in the forum like this. He was down in Tasi this year.. but lost his license drink driving, so he's back home. Smokes grass constantly.. Has a mate named Rum Bottle. Reckon you'd know at least one of 'em. I think I've described him as much as I can hehe.

Latch 07-18-2004 05:13 AM

Oh, and as for "The Campfire".. nothing better than sitting 'round a campfire with a few beers and a buncha mates.. or a buncha beers and a few mates. Either way, great times.

Meridae'n 07-18-2004 05:24 AM

You should be given honourary citizenship Latch... you sound more aussie than most aussies I know.

I'll hafta enquire about this dude... I'm curious. 'Rum Bottle' eh? Sounds like something the Friggers would call each other in Deni!

Since we've got so many Mexicans in here, where do you all drink in Melbourne when you're out for a big one? Alot of my mates live around Richmond so we spend alot of time in the Spready, Swan, and the GB. When out of Richmond usually the Terminus, The Harp in Kew, The Glenferrie, or somewhere along Chapel St... Bridies, Frostbites or Revolver (whenever that asian dude on the door thinks we're cool enough, which isn't often).

Ella 07-18-2004 12:29 PM

*plonks arse down on a thick blanky and holds out hands to the fire...opens bottle of Archers Spri, just to be be different...*

Comfy thread, Meri-babe...I'm happy to have a place to chat, but right now my fingers are like little slivers of ice, so I'll make it brief.

You mentioned a couple of my old locals up there....used to drink at the Harp a lot, and the GB for bands. The Spready...is that the Red Eagle in Albert Park? Not my scene....I was an Espy gal through and through.

I'm moving to Brisbane at the end of the year, but dunno where I'll be living yet, so I have no idea where I'll be hanging!

cchris 07-18-2004 12:51 PM

Trips over fucking goanna looking for wood.

How'd I get this job? http://www.smileyworld.com/dictionar...s/long_saw.gif

Nah, The Spreadeagle on Bridge Rd in Richmond. Smallish pub, closes at 1am, full of metro's, good pub. Funly enough I've had 3 different people got to the Spready in Lake Albert when we've tried to rendevous.

I thought you had already moved to Brisbane El, or are you on the coast? I'm heading to Brissie at the end of the year... half of my mates from Deni have moved up there already, might as well join the crowd. I was talking to one of them on Saturday and he told me it was 26 degrees. It was 10 in Albury at the time. You suck! I'll hafta get a Lions membership though... that'll hurt the soul.

Ella 07-19-2004 10:36 PM

Nah, Meri, I'm inland west in the mountains. But I'm a city gal, not a medium sized semi-rural city gal! Just need to sell my place, buy one down there, arrange a transfer, find a decent school for my girls and I'm good.

Are you moving there, Meri, or just visiting?

Meridae'n 07-20-2004 09:49 AM

Moving. Looks like I'll be able to move into a place in Spring Hill in January, sweet place too... about 2 minutes walk from the Valley.

Have to get a transfer yet, either that or go back to Plastering. Better money plastering, but longer hours and shitload of driving. I can't wait... love the Riverina, but I've been here for like ever. Need sun! Plus the girls are better up there, just made of plastic ;) So, are there any single chicks working in the Towoomba Centrelink office El?

Fuck it was cold when I knocked off at 3am this morning. Ice was half an inch thick on my windscreen... goodsy. Get here Spring already.

Doos 07-21-2004 04:55 AM

So much for the stereotype of Oz being one big desert with an opera house and a coral reef at either end...

I live halfway between the Harp and the Glenferrie, and I've never been to the Harp, and to the Glenferrie only once! We don't have a regular bar we hang out at, but our big nights are usually at Switch (Casey's on Glenferrie Rd), the Lounge (Swanston St.), Embassy Bar (Behind 7-11, cnr. Swanston/Lonsdale), or the Clyde (uni pub around Elgin/Lygon Sts.)

Meridae'n 07-21-2004 11:21 AM

Yeah, the Lounge is a sweet deal, fantastic on the eyes.

The Harp is a bit of a house-o haunt, but you can always let your hair down and go crazy. Used to have a feed at the Skinny Dog (had a mate who was the chef there) then walk to the Harp. Great times...

Ella 07-22-2004 03:30 AM

I used to hang at Lounge when it first opened....the owner Carlo had a club on Bridge Rd (and Swan St before that), Richmond which we went to a lot. He then opened Lounge in the early 90's I think (or was it the late 80's?). He gave me a membership years ago, but it's pretty useless nowadays, I guess! My soon to be ex husband was a chef there for a couple of years too. Dunno if the food's still good, but it used to be.

Meridae'n 07-22-2004 11:37 AM

"Soon to be ex husband"

Interesting phrase...

Ella 07-23-2004 12:45 AM

Ya reckon? More like.....the man from whom I'm too fucking lazy to get a divorce.

Edit: Testing....testing.....new avatar. Feedback required.

Be gentle. It's a close up and I was quite drunk. I later got laid big time. Good times.

Edit: Scrap that one. Stuck the Whiteley on instead.

Meridae'n 07-23-2004 07:29 AM

So Ella..........

Love the avatars...and

swap ya a spliff for one of your cordials.

Ella 07-23-2004 02:41 PM

Meri...I thought the sneering was a bit much, but you can see it here if you like. I still have it on MSN....when I remember to take off that other pic I use on there...errr...never mind.

Chris...I'll have a spliff and the cordial!

Meridae'n 07-27-2004 01:18 AM

The drummer from The Cosmic Pshycos hey? That's a feater in your cap, rooting a drummer ;)

You know what they call a drummer without a girlfriend?

Homeless.

Ella 07-27-2004 04:42 AM

How do you get 2 drummers to play in time?

Shoot one.

Latch 07-27-2004 04:45 AM

That dirty little secret thread was turning into a "Who has Ella rooted?" thread for a minute there.

Ella 07-27-2004 04:55 AM

Or more to the point.....

Who hasn't Ella rooted??

(I had to get that one in before Meri said it)

Meridae'n 07-27-2004 04:56 AM

I don't think Hal's servers have the capacity for that thread...

Ella 07-27-2004 04:59 AM

You're heading the right way for a severe slapping, boyo.

cchris 07-28-2004 04:53 PM

Can I watch?

Meridae'n 08-05-2004 03:04 AM

How good are shop-a-dockets! Two Whoppers with cheese for $4.55... sweet as a nut.

Ella 08-05-2004 03:33 AM

My house is being painted at the moment and the feckin' fumes are making me feel like hurling. What's worse, all the curtains and blinds are off at the moment, so I have no privacy. None at all.

On the plus side...it's Friday tomorrow!!!!

Latch 08-05-2004 03:55 AM

I took a flex day on Monday..

Worked Tuesday..

Was sick yesterday and today..

And will likely work a short day tomorrow...

It's been an easy week (I really was sick though, that sucked).

On to the weekend!

Ella 08-06-2004 12:05 AM

Hey, I took a flex on Monday as well, Latch! And last Friday. Yesterday and today I finished around 3...still have about 10 hours up my sleeve. Love that flex!!

Latch 08-06-2004 01:17 AM

The bastards here only let us flex a day off once a fortnight :(

Meridae'n 08-06-2004 06:05 PM

Latch, how come you can't get permanent residency here? We seem to let in 6 billion asians and arabs who have absolutely no intention of ever accepting our culture, yet you've been here for ages, are an educated man, yet seem to be having trouble.

What do you have to do to get residency short of marrying Ella?

Ella 08-06-2004 06:18 PM

I'll marry him if he pays for my divorce from my current husband first. Deal?

cchris 08-06-2004 06:36 PM

A Yankie and a Queenslander walk into a bar.................................

Sorry,couldn''t resist

Ella 08-06-2004 06:49 PM

Hey, I may live up here, but I still consider myself a Victorian...ya know? We swallow? Sheesh....

What do you have to do to get residency short of marrying Ella?

It's because I do it the legal way ;) It'll all be over soon... relatively. I hope to have the PR by January. Application is in and all.. it's just the waiting game.

I've had many chicks offer to marry me for PR (usually while we're all getting drunk together.. and no, the "let's just go to the honeymoon bit" line doesn't work)... If I marry them, they don't have divorices I'd have to pay for as well.. sorry, Ella ;)

Plus they're Victorian.. so.. yeah.

Ella 08-06-2004 07:25 PM

Ahh good...so you're on your way to being sorted, Latch. I'm really not the marrying type, anyways...I was with my husband for 11 years before we married. We separated less than two years later. Marriage seemed like a good idea at the time, tho....

Latch 08-06-2004 07:48 PM

Aren't you common-law after 2 years? or something like that?

Crazy Aussie laws hehe

Meridae'n 08-07-2004 12:17 AM

Please don't confuse aussie law with Queensland law, we let women vote down here.

Latch 08-07-2004 03:38 AM

haha sorry...

hey Ella, who's that in your avatar? Looks like Jack Black.. but not positive..

Ella 08-07-2004 04:10 AM

Yes indeedy it is! I love the man...end of story. Mind you, I can't say that over at the D board...one must share the love equally between Jables and Kage. We're an odd bunch over there.

Ella 08-11-2004 01:01 AM

Is it the weekend yet?

Latch 08-11-2004 07:13 AM

No.. get back to work, slacker...

I worked from 10:30am->12:30am today.. busy day.. but.. I get 7 hrs overtime.. woo-fucking-hoo!

Latch 08-11-2004 07:14 AM

From the Aussie Movie Thread:

There was a NZ movie (about pool) that was (on the cover of the movie) compared to Lock/Stock and Snatch. It was called Stickmen. I really enjoyed it.. anyone else seen it?

Ella 08-11-2004 11:44 PM

Nope...seen neither films.

Latch, I'm worried about my flex time....it's down to 7 hours and I have managed to overcome my workaholic tendancies, thus I refuse to build up any more. It was 37 hours last month! Now I don't even have enough to take a full day off!

Latch 08-11-2004 11:56 PM

Don't be worried.. just fudge a half hour here and there (starting and finishing).. you'll be all set ;)

Not that I do that.. of course not.

I currently have 6.5 hours of flex built up.. well.. after today, it'll be down to around 5.4 (after fudging). I really need to start working full days again.

Ella 08-12-2004 12:00 AM

What.....commit administrative fraud?! *Ella feigns shock*

Yep.......works for me!!

Latch 08-12-2004 12:11 AM

You wanna learn how to defraud places, just speak to all your people at Centrelink that actually tried to find a job.. put the effort in.. etc.

Ella 08-27-2004 01:12 AM

Hey, what the hell happened to this thread? It's Friday night and I'm eating pizza! Surely that's worth something?

Latch 08-27-2004 02:46 AM

Enough for The Campfire.

I've got shitty safeway chicken/cheese schnitzels in the oven. Thinking of cracking a beer.

It's been absolutely fucking beautiful all week down here (Arachnid, frozenstellar, slimshaydee, back me up on this..). Unfortunately it still gets fairly cool at night so not the greatest to go out and have an evening beer in.

Meridae'n 08-28-2004 09:08 PM

Meanwhile Ella's been enjoying 26 degree days... stupid sexy Queensland.

I leave you guys for 2 weeks and now the Canadians are 6 threads up on us! This is something we will have to remedy...

Ella 08-28-2004 11:01 PM

Yeah, where the fuck have you been anyway? Not that I missed you or anything....*ahem*

Hell, the weather has been rawkin' here. I've had my first two open houses this weekend and the sun has been shining in a most glorious fashion. Still no feckin' buyers, tho.

Latch 08-29-2004 12:18 AM

my fucking house flooded.... the goddamn washer tube thing fell outta the washer/basin thing.. and I came home to find standing water on the lino.. and the carpet saturated all the way around the edges.. what's worse is.. I live in units.. and the neighbours place flooded too. Fucking wonderful.

I'm never leaving the house again while the washer is running.

Ella 08-29-2004 01:15 AM

Oh dear. That happened to me earlier in the year - the bathroom drain blocked and flooded my mezzanine while my oldest daughter was having a shower. The insurance handled it, and luckily is was in summer so the carpet dried quickly but it's still a pain in the arse.

Meridae'n 08-29-2004 01:36 AM

Been working flat out, coupled with drinking at a magnitude that can only be achieved by a university football club that went winless through the entire season...

I missed you too El... wanna lash?

Ella 08-29-2004 02:55 AM

Lash? No. Slash? Yes. I've been on the sauce a bit too and I'm busting for a piss.

Meridae'n 08-29-2004 03:48 AM

We'll just skip the formalities then eh?

Ella 09-01-2004 01:23 AM

I've never seen the attraction of sexual activities that involve bodily functions.

Didn't TISM write a song about that?

Defecate On My Face
TISM

Come home tired, what a day I've had;
News ain't good from Stalingrad -
I been busy protecting the German race,
So come on baby, defecate on my face.

Chorus:
C'mon baby, send it on down;
Bend over Braunn and give me your brown.
There's trouble brewing in the Warsaw Pact,
So hurry up Eva and move your digestive tract.

Get to the bunker, looks like a sty;
Turn on the T.V. and it's all one Big Lie -
Here Eva, have these prunes to chew:
We have ways of making you poo.

Here come the Russians! It's near the end!
Proud to say that my girl never used an "S-bend".
What's that Eva? Your bowel's on strike?
Then it's all over for my Third Reich.

Meridae'n 09-11-2004 08:15 AM

That song wrote itself.

Go Lleyton.

Ella 09-11-2004 03:27 PM

Hey...I have a contract signed on my house after less than three weeks on the market, and they want to pay me more than I expected to get for it! And they'll let me rent back until early December when I move down to BrisVegas!

It all seems a little too perfect, so I'll save the celebration until after the initial 14 days are up.

Latch 09-11-2004 03:56 PM

Hey.. sounds cool. Hope it all works out for you.

Meridae'n 09-11-2004 07:56 PM

What's in it for us?

Ella 09-11-2004 08:44 PM

Maybe a beer if you play your cards right.

Meridae'n 09-11-2004 10:50 PM

A beer, or a 'beer'?

Ella 09-12-2004 01:28 AM

A beer.

Or maybe a beer.

Meridae'n 09-12-2004 02:25 AM

What chance do you's give Hewitt tonight? He's playing his arse off but the other guy's close to the best I've seen. I'm going Lleyton in a nail-biter.

Latch 09-12-2004 03:27 AM

The Antz Pantz underwear ad was funny at first.

Now it's annoying.

Ella 09-19-2004 11:59 PM

Hey, I'm down here on the Gold Coast for a week....so far I've been downing gin and tonics, making sandcastles and working on my tan. It's all good.

Latch 09-20-2004 12:25 AM

ahhh, the life of a government worker...

Ella 09-20-2004 12:50 AM

Yeah, you can't beat it, can you Latch? I honestly think I'll be accruing flex for the rest of my working life.

Meridae'n 09-29-2004 02:38 AM

PM me back Slim you bitch!

Ella 10-14-2004 02:00 AM

Hey, did someone call for a campfire?

Hey...I gave up drinking for 12 days!!!

Meridae'n 10-14-2004 07:01 PM

I met a chick on the weekend, friend of a friend set-up. Love these types of SMS when you're at a BBQ "What's doin Bose, come down to the New Albury, got a friend of Dee's here that wants to pick up someone. C u in one".

Dragged her back to my place (got nothing, hoping it's in the post though), and she says this 9.30 on Sunday morning...

Vagina: "I better get going home, all my relo's will be waiting for me"

Me: "How come"

V: "It's my birthday today and we're having a family breakfast".

Woulda loved to have seen the look on her Nan's face when she rocked in there at 10am wearing the clothes she wore the night before. For interests sake, the rest of the convo went something like this...

Me: "What are you turning?"

V: "19. How old are you?"

Me: "I better get you home then".

Hooked up a date on Saturday night, but what the hell do I talk to someone about who's 8 years younger than me? Jesus. I might be out of my depth here. I've made a deal with god as this may be my last chance with a 19 year old that i don't have to pay for...

almostaugust 11-02-2004 01:11 AM

Anyone here have been/or are going to the falls festival this year? Im gonna be going to the VIC one, should be super. Billy Bragg will be playing incidently.

Latch 11-02-2004 02:18 AM

I'm considering going to Falls.. but haven't been yet. Probably won't make it this year.. as mates are already planning for huge things that night. Some year though.....

I have a mate who has been a couple times.. is going again this year.. he can't get enough of it.

almostaugust 11-02-2004 02:47 AM

Yeah, im hoping its awesome. If you decide to go, ill meet you where the beer is.

Ella 11-02-2004 03:24 AM

The Falls would be very cool. Hell, it's just down the road from you, Latch! Isn't there someone else here from down there?

I'll be in Melbourne early Jan for a week or so but will miss it. Last time I saw Billy Bragg was in 1986. And I'll bet he's pretty much the same nowadays. And that's not a bad thing of course....

Did anyone do the Melbourne Cup thing at work today? We did a lunch, had sweeps and the girlies who wear frocks and hats dressed up in them (I don't do frocks). Then we all stopped work and watched the race....it was fun.

Latch 11-02-2004 05:42 AM

Yeah.. Falls is only about 45 mins away..

There are a few more Melbourne folks around. What you coming down for? If you're free we should get the Melbourne (and surrounding area) crew together.. meet at The Lounge for drinks or something.

Yep - yesterday was a pretty bludgy day. 9 holes of golf at 7am followed by beer at the club house. then a little bit of work, before the guys I work with came over to my place for beer, nibblies and watching the race. All in all a very unproductive day for our workplace :)

Ella 11-02-2004 03:02 PM

Latch, I'll be bringing the kidlets down to see their grandparents. Not sure when I'll have holidays again, since I'm having over two months off work, so I kinda need to do what I can when I can. I'll be staying with my Dad in South Yarra which is pretty central. I'll buzz ya closer to the date.

Spindles...sounds less productive than my day, matey, and that's saying something!

spindles 11-02-2004 10:13 PM

It was tough - but I kinda have heaps to do, so perhaps it was not really that wise :/

Meridae'n 11-05-2004 09:24 AM

Probably should make my posts in the Member's Playground more feminazi friendly from now on...

Ella 11-05-2004 02:25 PM

I've been meaning to talk to you about your posts of late, Meri. Remember, women do have more components that just a vagina. Did you know that?

Latch 11-05-2004 02:45 PM

Meri.. fucking awesome post there. I was reading it, laughing... and wondering how much the chicks were gonna kill you. Looks like they took the joke of it.

Well done.

Meridae'n 11-05-2004 04:22 PM

Well most did. Reading that you must understand that I actually know these girls and like them.

Thought it would stir up a bit though... why not.

Ella 11-05-2004 11:06 PM

Yeah, I laughed. And we want a follow-up post, OK??
