Yeah I'm not to bad. Have to baby sit my little sister tonight, so I'm bummed about that...
I see that there's quite a few easties here, got any west Aussies around? |
cleaning w/ a hangover sucks ella.. smoking after drinking fucks me up every time (or used to.. I've learned my lesson by now)..
Hi Jaebin.. welcome. Ignore slim, he's our resident metro (although Meri may argue that). Speaking of which, where is Meri? still without Internet? |
Hey Jaebin...*waves* Not sure about any other westies, mate.
And Latch...not sure about Meri either. But you have a ball in the states...I assume you'll be popping in for a visit? |
Hello Ella, heh, can't believe that I'm the only westie here >_>... oh well.
Question: Is Qantas the only International airline we have in Australia? |
Ishmal is from Kalgoorlie, and Mr Mephisto is from WA (near Perth I think). There are lots of international airlines, but Qantas is the only Oz owned one, as far as I am aware.
|
woohoo yeah.. last day of work today (and I'm going in late hehe). Fly out in 2 days.. hard to comprehend I'll be sitting on a plane/in transit for 24 hours... again. I hate the flight.
Yeah, I'll TFP from there... I couldn't leave you guys.. although, not sure I can post in the Australia area ;). |
hey jaebin... i'm a westie... wats up???
you should b able to post here from usa latch... i've posted in Canada. |
I think Latch is just being cheeky. Now he has his perm res, he HAS to post here!
Man, what a stinker. How happy am I that my new unit has aircon....very happy, I'd say. AND my ADSL modem arrived today, so now I just have to work out how to rig it up and it's adios to dial-up, motherfuckers!! |
"Qantas is the only Oz owned one, as far as I am aware."
OK, time for some real newbieness on my behalf. If i wanted to fly internationally can i fly another airline other than Qantas? "hey jaebin... i'm a westie... wats up???" Hey dude, not much. I hear you're in Kal, I lived there for the first 6 years of my life, my Nanna and Poppy still live there so i visit a couple times a year. Ella- nice one with the aircon and ADSL. I don't think that this summer is going to be a nice one. Now you don't have to go outside for it. :D |
LOL. well don't i feel silly.
yer i'm in Kalg... and its f**ken hot l8ly... or is that just all ova Australia?? :) |
yeah, I was just joking, Ishmal, I'm never serious.. except for then... maybe.
Aircon and ADSL, sweet.. ;) Who are you going through for ADSL Ella (sorry, computer nerd question) It was hot here over the weekend, but it's gotten better. Finished work today.. woohoo! One day off then it's onto a plane. I Was talking to my dad online today.. it was weird to make plans about catching up w/ him and the grandparents "this weekend".. which is only a few short days away hehe. |
It hasn't been hot in Perth... just, warmer than usual...
So, any answers to my question? :P (OK, time for some real newbieness on my behalf. If i wanted to fly internationally can i fly another airline other than Qantas?) |
Jaebin: yeah, Air New Zealand (they work with United Airlines, a US company). Umm, there are many Asian airlines as well, I believe.
|
Latch, I have signed up with Curl Internet for $49.95 per month for 512 and 25 gig download limit. My modem came and the wireless cards for the kids' puters but I have concerns about connecting it myself. It's a Billion one. I'll have a look and see how I go. 50 to 512.....shit, I won't know myself!
|
512 isn't too bad.. not bad for the price.
Billion routers are good I've heard, although I've never used one myself.. Good luck getting it all going.. shouldn't be TOO much of a hassle ;) |
Billion is the best router/adsl modem on the market you're fine. Should be a peice of piss to connect even for a woman.
|
Ella - make sure you turn on some type of security on the wireless thingy. Otherwise your neighbours could connect to the net through you. Let us know if you get stuck - I'm sure we can help you get it going if you have problems.
Second tip - make sure all your machines are patched, firewalled and virus scannered, all of which can be had for free - nothing like an always on connection to make the bastards of the Internet focus on you. |

it has bn a while hasn't it??? he says hes working long shifts!!! |

When I get the word the connection is good to go, the dudes at Curl will walk me through the modem and ADSL set up. I kinda know what I'm doing, and unlike men, I tend to read instructions, so I should be fine. If I have any issues, I'll yell out! |
Ella - this site:
http://arstechnica.com/paedia/w/wire...802.11b-1.html has a good review of what you should do (in pretty simple terms). Basically, the wireless router (or access point) can be connected to by any wireless device (yours and your neighbours). By turning on the security features of the router, you will need to do some config on your pcs to connect but it means that your neighbours would also need to do the same config to their machine to connect as well. In essence you have the key and they do not. I'm not a novice in this area, but I'm also not an expert. If we can't solve it here, wander over to the computer forum - there are piles of nerds (...I mean experts) there ;) |
sorry to interupt all this talk about computers and such... but i just feel like celebrating as i've just reached my 100th "worthwhile" post... meaning i'm Crazy!!! ... ... ... neway... thats my outburst... u may continue with the computer babble now... :D

Hey congrats, Ishmal! Have you been granted naughty pics privileges yet?
Spindles....that page looks a little too complicated for me, I'm afraid. May ask (and pay) someone to come over and help me with it. |
Quote:
Yep, it may be best to get someone to help you - sorry I don't live close enough - I would do it for a beer or two. |
Spindles, you would have a deal there, mate. The text was pretty easy to read, but what kind of threw me was the "Change the admin password and turn off remote management" bit. I had no idea of where to do that. Then 'Turn off SSID Broadcast'...well, to a simple Aussie sheila, that is obviously easier to say than to do. So while it was written in a fairly straight forward way, you kinda need to have an idea of where to go to do stuff first.
I'll work it out, mate - thanks. |
[QUOTE=Ella]Hey congrats, Ishmal! Have you been granted naughty pics privileges yet?[QUOTE]
LOL. yer, i got that at tilted!!! :D |
Ella - what brand and model is the router - perhaps I can help you remotely...

W00t, How cool is this place!!!1!!11!!!1! A forum just for the aussies... and Latch.
Sorry I've been a weak bastard lately but I've been working my Windsor Smith's off and also been quite crook. I'll be moving out of my house in a couple of weeks to a place 7 doors down, but more importantly, with a bloke who'll actually pay the phone bill, so I'll be able to hook the internet back up. Great to see the Canadians are 13 threads in front of us now, great work. Looks like I'll have to post enough spam to kill a small horse to correct this. Shouldn't be too hard. As I said I've been a bit crook lately, last Sunday arvo I had a session with a few mates after the Wodonga Cup which ended up in Emergency at the Albury Base. I was telling them the truth when I said someone spiked my drink, I just neglected to tell them it was me, and that it happened 3 times. I guess some lessons aren't free in this life, and I've been pretty sick lately... no more little red pills for this man. On the bright side Ishmal texted me the other day, which takes the tally up to 3 of you. In the act of texting him back however our palletiser started throwing the toys out of the cot and I got drilled by our supervisor. I tried hard to shift the blame onto an anonymous internet poster but it turned out to be an exercise in futility. Wanker. I've got more to report on but this headache is giving me the shits. Will endevour to both post more and learn the correct spelling of endevour. PS. Slim is a raving Hom/Metr-o. PPS. Ella has a great rack. PPPS. Ishmal doesn't. PPPPS. Latch is still a seppo, contrary to popular opinion. |
Fine, don't make a mention of my great rack :(

I'm back in the States now.. looking outside at the snow on the ground.. snow's fun until it comes to shoveling it hehe. I had forgotten how much I hated the plane ride to the States and back.. but I was quickly reminded once I was sitting there... At least I have a month before I have to do it again. P.S. Meri's a metro P.P.S nah.. that's just it.. Meri's a metro. |
Glad to see you made it safely, mate.
|
Ella - I can't find a detailed manual for those billion routers - their site at www.billion.com says they are on the CD, which is difficult for me to see. Is it possible to upload it somewhere where I could get it? Without that it is going to be difficult for me to help you.
The other alternative is to ask for help in the Computing forum - perhaps someone has one of these (or has more experience with this kinda stuff) and might be able to give help without the manual... |
Ahhh...OK mate....I have that manual on a CD so will sit down and try and work it out. If I can't, I'll just pay someone to do it. Thanks for your help anyways!
|
I just got a PM from one of the mods who was concerned about my reference to Slim and Latch in the 'what wont you miss about 2004' thread.
Seppo's just don't get our humour do they... |
LOL.
i cn that yesterday... kinda thought u'd get in trouble... did they make u remove it??? |
Quote:
|
Yeah.. yanks definitely can't find the humour in such great aussie classics like 'skithouse'.
btw, I reckon slim and I should use "report this post to the moderator" on Meri's 2004 post, just to see if we can get him banned ;) |
