Talk about Bisquick, we had our Thanksgiving luncheon in work today and everybody brings something to put on the table. The cute little chubby girl, so cute I want to hug her every time I see her, made these really tasty little biscuits with Bisquick and then gave us the recipe below...they were very yummy.

Cheddar Bay Biscuits
like Red Lobster's®

Garlic and cheddar make a flavorful addition to basic drop biscuits.

Serves: 8
Prep. Time: 0:15

2 cups Bisquick® baking mix
2/3 cup milk - low fat okay
1/2 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese - low fat okay
1/4 cup butter OR margarine - melted
1/4 tsp. garlic powder OR granulated garlic
parsley flakes - as needed

-Combine Bisquick®, milk, and cheddar and beat with a wooden spoon for about 30 seconds.
-Spoon onto a lightly greased cookie sheet.
-Bake in 450 degree oven for 8 - 10 minutes.
-Combine butter and garlic powder and pour over hot biscuits; sprinkle with parsley.

Notes: As we all know, restaurants have access to ingredients home cooks do not. In this case, I've been told Red Lobster® uses their Shrimp Scampi butter mix (a powder) to flavor their biscuits. So, this recipe is as close as a home cook can get to the real thing.

Starkizzer 11-23-2009 08:30 PM

Oh BadNick I love this recipe too. I found it years ago when I was craving the biscuits.

Mmmm mmm mmmm

wooÐs 11-23-2009 08:34 PM

I've made them as well. They're fantastic.

I just roasted some marshmallows over the stove burner. They were awesome.
I wonder if a candle would work so I don't have to stand there in the kitchen? Or would the marshmallow pick up candle smell?

BadNick 11-24-2009 08:26 AM

if you use a real beeswax candle, it gives off no soot and no smell...walk down to your local Catholic church and roast a marshmallow on a votive candle...you'll see what I mean. Sadly, this reminds me that bees are under stress and I hope they make it or we're toast.

BadNick, those biscuits turned out amazing! Currently munching on those with leftover chorizo (from Cornbread Chorizo stuffing currently baking in the oven) while making a second batch with minced jalapenos. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

Willravel 11-26-2009 05:37 PM

My evil scheme worked. Everyone had my pumpkin pancakes this morning, thinking that was the end of Thanksgiving. Nay, I say, for it's not over 'till it's over. La Villa ravioli now fills my belly, and for that I give thanks to the Italians that came to the Bay Area with their wonderful recipes. It's the best ravioli in the world.

that sounds customized to my liking

For Thanksgiving I made a corn casserole which was very good, but next time I make it I'm adding some minced jalapenos.

Waffle maker cookies and french pressed coffee. The perfect late night, all-nighter meal.

I used the recipe over at Oatmeal-Chocolate Chip Waffle Cookies - Fine Cooking Recipe , but cut the amount of chocolate by half, replaced that with equal parts crushed walnuts and dry cranberries.

I had a head of cauliflower that I wanted to cook before it went bad so last night I made a casserole with it. Even my two boys who said they don't like cauliflower said it tasted really good. I followed the recipe below and it turned out to be simple and very tasty:

I didn't have Gruyere cheese so I substituted Monterey Jack, and I used Progresso Italian bread crumbs instead of making my own....worked great.

Ingredients
1 (3-pound) head cauliflower, cut into large florets
Kosher salt
4 tablespoons (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, divided
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups hot milk
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/4 teaspoon grated nutmeg
3/4 cup freshly grated Gruyere, divided
1/2 cup freshly grated Parmesan
1/4 cup fresh bread crumbs

Directions
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Cook the cauliflower florets in a large pot of boiling salted water for 5 to 6 minutes, until tender but still firm. Drain.

Meanwhile, melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in a medium saucepan over low heat. Add the flour, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon for 2 minutes. Pour the hot milk into the butter-flour mixture and stir until it comes to a boil. Boil, whisking constantly, for 1 minute, or until thickened. Off the heat, add 1 teaspoon of salt, the pepper, nutmeg, 1/2 cup of the Gruyere, and the Parmesan.

Pour 1/3 of the sauce on the bottom of an 8 by 11 by 2-inch baking dish. Place the drained cauliflower on top and then spread the rest of the sauce evenly on top. Combine the bread crumbs with the remaining 1/4 cup of Gruyere and sprinkle on top. Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and drizzle over the gratin. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the top is browned. Serve hot or at room temperature.

This monstrosity was born from inspiration by the "Animal Style" fries at In N Out. Hot dog, homefries, grilled onions, sauteed onions, thousand island dressing, shredded and sliced american cheese. This is why your arteries are clogged, indeed.

Planters Brittle Nut Medley - that is really good but I think they only make it for Christmas - and Jim Beam - they make that all year.

I love meat. Go on, let your mind get ugly.

I can't leave Pringles alone lately. I keep buying cans of them. The loaded potato or the mozzarella stick flavors. Gots to stop. *shoves 2 in face*

A while back I found a place in Japan online called The Meat Guy. I can get a 1kg brined brisket that I can braise (corned beef) or smoke (pastrami). Plus just about anything else. A godsend in a country with no delis!

Noodle, please don't let one poor preparation sway you from trying duck again. It can be quite delicious!

We just ate a sandwich with portabella mushrooms, avocado, melted swiss, and spice mustard on sourdough. With a side of tomato corn salad made with garlic, fresh basil and a drizzle of sesame oil. Hooray for trying to eat healthy!

my two sons and I are having dinner right now...here's a pic ...wish you could be here, too

http://i59.photobucket.com/albums/g2...d/dadinner.jpg

which I can describe as ...straight back are Michael's crab cakes, to the right are Tyler's lobster ravioli, and heading front left you'll notice my glass of Belgian strong dark ale, and my barely grilled sushi-grade tuna with sort of a green goddess on it...and who the hell doesn't LOVE a green goddess! especially if she's wearing the trendy booty shorts I was just reading about and posted in another thread with a "hot pic" hint hint

...which reminds me of the fine buzz I have this moment which is why you may have detected a "loose tongue", thankfully due to that Brasserie d Achouffe N'Ice Chouffe Belgian dark ale

This one pours up a dark amber/brown color. An almost three-finger head of light tan colored, fluffy foam sits on top. Retention is fairly good and lacing is craggy/fluffy and nicely sticky.

Great big notes of lots of dark fruits jump out at me first. Loads of raisins and a good deal of caramel malts. Belgian candi sugars, dark and golden brown sugars and both dark and golden caramels all make a showing. The spice level is much more muted than expected.

Lots of raisins, with some toffee and caramel notes thrown in. Mild level of corriander spiciness. The spice presence is more on the back-end than in the flavor. Good, mild level of brown sugar. A fair amount of rich maltiness.

This beer is medium-bodied with a mild-to-medium level of carbonation. It is extremely smooth and has a nice, light, presence of creaminess.

You can feel the 10.0%abv as you make it through the bottle, but you certainly don't taste it. This is very nice, very smooth and nicely drinkable.

...I couldn't have said that better myself...well, I could have but this is easier...and this one was from draft

I wish I had pics of it all since it looked so nice. I had dinner at Meritage in Philadelphia, nice little place at 20th & Lombard.

I started off with a martini made with orange Stoli and fresh squeezed orange and lemon juice, probably a dash or two of something else...very clean, smooth and tasty.

Next were two Korean short rib tacos on soft flour tortilla, topped with braised short rib, spicy Korean chili sauce and kimchi.

Then I had cauliflower soup with roasted cauliflower florets, curry oil and frizzled mint...I love cauliflower.

For the "large plate" I had pan-seared scallops with shortrib ravioli, oyster mushrooms, and baby spinach. I made sure each bite of the medium-rare scallops took a long deep dive into the very tasty light broth/sauce. I was the lifeguard, but I ate the victims.

For dessert I had a nice glass of Mondavi Moscato d'Oro...it made me feel like I was sipping the nectar of the gods, a dry, barely sweet muscat blanc grape dessert wine. It matched perfectly to the chocolate fight that unexpectedly developed at my table.
