Since American's call "jam" jelly, what do you call a jelly?

That would be called a Jell-O mold. What you would call "jelly" in the UK is almost always referred to as Jell-O, as it is the predominant brand name here. It's a victim of genericization.

noodle 02-03-2009 03:55 PM

i'm trying to decide between defrosting kick-ass homemade chili to clear out the sinuses but challenge the tummy and a grilled cheese on wheat with defrosted homemade tomato soup that will soothe the tummy but do nothing for the sinus "issue" i was diagnosed with today.

Up here in the Great White North, many of us call that a jelly mold.

It is my understanding that jelly otherwise is fruit juice boiled with pectin and sugar, while jam is made from the whole fruit. Jello is a gelatin dessert. The first two things you spread and toast and such.

And, btw, I'm eating a spinach/broccoli heart/cabbage salad with sliced onion, red peppers, canned pears, feta cheese, and veggie sausage.

snowy 02-03-2009 04:35 PM

I am eating a biscuit with butter and strawberry jam.

Strange Famous 02-10-2009 01:22 PM

a toasted baugette with cream cheese and a little black pepper on top.

But you should have seen the meal I made myself last night... a curry (of sorts) that was so hot I had to take my shirt of when I ate it.

I started off by boiling some rice with a chopped onion, lots of soy sauce, a chicken stock cube, and lots of chilli powder.

Then in a pan I simmered some chopped tomato, some tomato ketchup, a bit of smoked fish, some basil, some garlic, and lots of chilli powder.

After the rice was boiled I drained the water off and poured it into the tomato sauce with some more soy sauce and some hot sauce, simmered it a bit more.

Oh boy that was hot!

Starkizzer 02-10-2009 10:40 PM

Tonight was my late night in class so we had baked potatoes with a variety of toppings; broccoli, shredded cheese, sour cream, and salsa. Mmmm sometimes there's nothing better than a simple baked potato!

hey, that's what I had for early dinner yesterday. I quarter them, then steam lightly, then with good hot olive oil in a frying pan I dump them in until some get slightly browned at the edges, throw in a pinch of minced garlic, then salt & pepper and wolf it down. mon petit chou!

right this effin' second...takes break to stuff mouth again...I'm eating an orzo veggie salad I just made and it's very good. Excuse the crappy color in this cell phone pic.
